Zoé Lee[14] is a major character of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. She is a teenage girl from New York City and a student in Ms. Mendeleiev's class at Collège Françoise Dupont. She is also Chloé Bourgeois' younger half-sister [12] and André Bourgeois's stepdaughter. She attended a boarding school when she was in New York where she once lived with her mother.[15]

In "Sole Crusher", after being tired of hiding her true self in order to please her half-sister, Zoé is akumatized by Shadow Moth into Sole Crusher, a golden supervillain who can absorb people and grows larger by stomping on or kicking them.[16][17] She also receives a Magical Charm from Ladybug that prevents her from being akumatized again.

In "Queen Banana", after Chloé is akumatized into the titular villain, Zoé receives the Bee Miraculous from Ladybug. When the Miraculous is inhabited by Pollen, Zoé becomes Vesperia, a bee/wasp-themed superhero who helps Ladybug and Cat Noir during particularly difficult missions in the fourth season.

After the events of "Strikeback", Zoé was temporarily unable to become Vesperia after Monarch managed to steal the Bee Miraculous along with all the others contained in the Chinese Miracle Box from Ladybug's yo-yo.

In "Transmission", in order to allow Adrien Agreste to be free to love Marinette, Plagg took back the Cat Miraculous from him and gave it to Zoé so she could take his place. When Plagg inhabited the Miraculous, Zoé became Kitty Noire ("Blaqueminette" in the French version), a cat-themed superhero, who became Scarabella's partner when she got the Ladybug Miraculous.

In "Deflagration", after Zoé's secret identity as Kitty Noire was uncovered by Monarch, he formulated a plan to take her Cat Miraculous. This forced her to renounce the Miraculous back to Cat Noir.

In "Adoration", at the end of the episode, it is revealed that Zoé has been in love with Marinette since their first encounter in "Sole Crusher".

In "Re-creation", after Ladybug recovers the stolen Miraculous and reforges them following Monarch's defeat, Zoé is given back the Bee Miraculous permanently and reunites with Pollen.

Appearance

Physical appearance

Zoé is a slender teenage girl with wheat-golden hair that has significantly shorter bangs with the ends reaching her shoulders and upper back while she has hot pink dyed strands on the left side, her eyes are a vivid shade of azure (similar to Marinette Dupain-Cheng's form as Ladybug) and her eyebrows are honey-colored. She has peach skin tone, coral lips and a dusting of light freckles over the bridge of her nose and cheeks.

In "Sole Crusher", it is shown that Zoé gets a pink streak dyed into her hair by Rose Lavillant and Juleka Couffaine.

Civilian attire

Zoé wears a black faux leather jacket, a white t-shirt with a pink, cyan and yellow honeycomb flower on the front, and an orange belt with yellow sport skinny jeans and a black part. On her feet, her sneakers have white shoelaces, toe caps and soles. The sides of her sneakers are decorated with blue, lime-green and pink heart and star patterns with black outlines. There's a moderate apple green crown on the left side of her left shoe and a white skull on the left side of her right shoe. The midsole of the shoes seem to be decorated with different drawings that appeared to be drawn with a black permanent marker. The left shoe has a red heart drawn on the toe cap that reads "I ♡︎U".[18]

At the end of "Sole Crusher", her shoes get more drawings from her new friends. On her left wrist, she also wears a two blue beaded brown bracelets and red and yellow pattern wide white bracelet with black lining on each and a luminous vivid opal-colored beanie on her head.

As Vesperia, Zoé wears a yellow and black swan-necked, bee and wasp hybrid formed superhero jumpsuit, which has a leather texture. The upper part of the suit is black with yellow stripes with yellow forearms and hands with black fingers. She has a yellow zipper at the front with a triangular yellow and black slider, making it look like she is wearing a jacket. The lower part of the suit is yellow with black stripes. She wears black boots with a yellow stripe at the collar, tongue and toecap and a black mask with yellow around her eyes. Her hair becomes braided with a black streak and her bangs are of equal length and black highlights. The Bee Miraculous is located right above of the base of her braid, holding two black antenna-like ribbons, similar to Chloé Bourgeois' as Queen Bee. The Spinning Top, her weapon, is tied with a yellow string around her hips when not in use, it has a same color as Queen Bee's form of Queen Wasp's.

As Kitty Noire

As Kitty Noire, Zoé had a hairstyle that somewhat resembled Cat Noir's with a bob-length spikier cut as compared to her civilian form, coupled with full, spiky bangs and with green highlights starting around her temples and ending on the tips of her hair. She had cat-like eyes with yellow sclerae, dark orange irises, and slitted pupils and lips covered in a yellow-green lipstick and black cat ears on top of her head.

She was wearing a black compression shirt topped with a swan-necked cropped black jacket that ended around her mid-chest area with 3/4 length sleeves. The jacket had green zippers around the shoulders and at the edges of the sleeves, and closed with two silver buttons on the front. On her lower body, she wore high-waisted capri pants with the same fabric as her jacket, with a golden button and green front pockets. She also wore green suspenders that went under her jacket and connected to the waistband of her pants, and a long, black ribbon on her lower back that ended around her ankles, simulating a cat's tail. On her feet, she wore green socks and black sneakers with a green sole and stripe on the back, and black cat-paws prints on the undersoles.

Kitty Noire also had black biker gloves on both of her hands, and sharp, black claw-like nails on her fingers. The jacket, the pants, and the gloves had a similar puple sheen to the fabric, and a leather-like texture. Her Miraculous sat on the ring finger of her right hand, and her weapon, the staff, was now black (as opposed to Cat Noir's and Lady Noire's, which were both silver), and rests retracted on her lower back when not in use.

As Sole Crusher

As Sole Crusher, Zoé was a hybrid form of her older half-sister Chloé Bourgeois, having her physical look (like face and hairstyle), and her mother's form as Style Queen. Her hair, eyes, skin and clothes (which were the same as Chloé's) were sparkly brilliant amber with encrusted very light cyan-colored jewels. Her headdress-like accessory featured lightning-shaped horns. Her jacket collar and the backs of her high heel shoes also featured lightning-shaped ornaments.

Personality

As the polar opposite of Chloé Bourgeois, Zoé is a very sweet girl [19] who can be very caring and friendly to anyone that crosses her way, even able to befriend someone she has just met, like Marinette Dupain-Cheng. She is also very forgiving, showing this in "Sole Crusher" after Marinette trips and falls on her. Zoé is also very generous as she gave to the taxi driver that took her to Le Grand Paris the baking goods that Marinette gave her, after hearing from her how her children love them. She is also shown to be creative, shown to dye her hair and customize her own shoes.

Her greatest dream is to become an actress as she is very skilled at doing so. However, because she was constantly acting a role, much like Lila Rossi and her lies, Zoé ended up concealing her true self and, when she was not able to do it anymore, she ended up having no friends back in New York. After moving to Paris to live with her maternal family, she pretends to be like her mother Audrey Bourgeois and older half-sister in order to please them and be accepted by them. She also wants to fit in, which is why she is always acting. After being deakumatized, she learned that the way she was acting was wrong and decided to finally stop hiding her true self.

In "Queen Banana", Zoé was hesitant in taking the Bee Miraculous knowing how Chloé would react at first, but Ladybug reassures her that unlike Chloé, she'll keep her identity a secret.

In "Optigami", Zoé is instinctively protective of anyone as she wanted to pull Chloé down before Style Queen hit her.

However, despite learning to not let Chloé get in her way in things she likes (like taking her role as the star of Marinette's class' movie project), Zoé still avoids any type of conflict with Chloé in order to not give her any excuse to convince her parents to send her back to New York. This goes as far as avoiding any place inside the hotel where she is not allowed and where Chloé may be and/or doing any menial task for her, like cleaning all of her shoes.

Zoé also seems to be protective of Marinette and Adrien Agreste's relationship as she told the class that they shouldn't interfere with their forming relationship and constantly come up with crazy plans. She then went to Marinette's house to try and discuss it with her.

When Chloé tries to humiliate Marinette by trying to ridicule her dream of being Adrien's girlfriend, Zoé, moved by her desire to protect their happiness as a couple, gathers the courage she needed to confront her half-sister and drags her back to her seat. She is shown to be very remorseful for her mistakes, unlike Chloé as she felt bad for having her identity revealed to Monarch via the effects of Venom and of the Alliance Ring, causing the latter to be renounced off-screen when actually it wasn't her fault. According to Plagg, he told her that it was her own choice to call the shots and stand up to her half-sister, before saying farewell to her.

She shows great loyalty to Marinette that despite having her own feelings for her, Zoé lets her be with the one she loves and saw her as great friend so great that Zoé was willing to take a punishment for her even though they were both innocent.

As Vesperia, most of Zoé's personality remains the same and she's proven to be very clever using her acting skills that led to her sister's downfall. She can also act in a flashy way, similar to Queen Bee, but shows a much humbler side. According to Plagg, she is more refined, sweeter and nicer than Queen Bee.

As Kitty Noire, she was shown to be rather competent and skillful when using her powers (despite the initial struggle when using her staff). She was able to take the right initiative like using her Cataclysm to get access to the villain's akumatized object, failing only because of unexpected events (like the use of Resistance). Kitty Noire was also able to cooperate very well with others, even when she had just met them, as she was able to make great teamwork with Scarabella moments after they had just met each other, with the two of them quickly coming up with a plan together to defeat a villain and execute it perfectly. Similar to Cat Noir, she had a little of a flirtatious side.

As Sole Crusher, she was much more confident and refused to let others boss her around. However, she was still willing to please Chloé as she considered crushing Kitty Section just to be like her.

Zoé's Magical Charm.

  • The designed charm for Zoé has diamonds embedded on it because the charms are based on the color scheme/characteristics of the person's akumatization.
  • Zoé is the first Miraculous holder to receive a Magical Charm before becoming a superhero herself.
    • She is the first woman to receive a Magical Charm.
    • She is also the first in her family to receive a Magical Charm.
  • Zoé is the third Miraculous holder not to get spotted by Optigami, the others being Ladybug, Cat Noir, Polymouse, Pigella, Purple Tigress and Bunnyx.
    • However, that's because Optigami was supposed to spot heroes whose identity was known by Shadow Moth. So, since he didn't know that Zoé was Vesperia, Shadow Moth wouldn't have had any reason to target her even if spotted by Optigami.
  • As seen in "Sole Crusher", Zoé is right-handed.
  • In the episode "Gabriel Agreste", she says her half-sister's famous line/catchphrase, "Ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!"
  • Zoé is the first person in Ms. Mendeleiev's class who uses a Miraculous.
    • This is followed by Marc Anciel in "Penalteam" who becomes Rooster Bold.
    • She is also the only person in Ms. Mendeleiev's class who owns a magical charm.
  • Zoé can be seen as a light parallel to Chloé as they are both wielders of the Bee Miraculous, but there are differences between the two. With these factors, Zoé serves as an example of what Chloé would have been if the latter turned over a new leaf and changed her mean spirited ways.
    • Chloé is a selfish and overzealous spoiled girl who uses her father to get whatever she wants and barely has any friends because of her toxic personality.
    • Zoé, on the other hand is a kind-hearted person. She comes from a friendless background because she couldn't be what others wanted, is quick to befriend the main cast, and has a very healthy and encouraging relationship with her stepfather, André.
    • Even their superhero costumes differ from one another with Queen Bee's favoring the color yellow while Vesperia's favors the color black.
    • While Chloé hates Marinette and constantly bullies her, Zoé, on the other hand, has a crush on her and puts Marinette's happiness over her own.
  • Zoé shares a name with a British brand of hand-made shoes made in Italy, Zoe Lee.
  • In old concept drawing of Zoé as Sole Crusher, her appearance started out being covered in diamonds before switching to gold.
  • In the trading card game Miraculous Secrets, it's revealed that Zoé's best friend in New York City was Jessica Keynes.
  • She is the youngest of all of Marinette's and Adrien's friends as civilians and of the French Miraculous superhero team.
  • Excluding Félix, who has never been fully akumatized, Zoé and Marc are the only members of the French Miraculous superhero team who have been akumatized only once.
  • So far, Zoé, Marc and Luka are the only members of the French Miraculous superhero team that have not met nor interacted with Lila/Cerise.
