—Véronique, "The Puppeteer 2" |
Véronique is a minor character of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. She works at Musée Grévin.
In "Determination", after Mayor Bourgeois forbade Véronique from exposing the wax statues of the inactive superheroes of the French Miraculous superhero team at the cost of closing the Grévin, she was akumatized by Monarch into Manipula, a wax-themed supervillain with the power to bring a wax statue to life and received the Ox Miraculous superpower of Resistance through her Alliance ring.[3] She also received a Magical Charm from Ladybug to prevent her from being reakumatized.
Appearance[]
Physical Appearance[]
Véronique has straight brown auburn hair in a bob that is brushed towards the outside with a straight-cut fringe gently divided and moderate vermilion eyes. The tips of her hair are dyed in dark blonde auburn.
Civilian attire[]
She wears a pair of square-framed glasses with a luminous vivid orange and black stripped tiger pattern, eyeliner, red lipstick, a festive vivid red short-sleeved knee-length dress with a round neckline and a pleated-hem, and festive vivid red dress shoes adorned with white rectangles and lining and strong red soles.
As Manipula[]
She had pale yellow skin and light yellow hair that curled upward into a candle with a wick on top of it. Her eyes were brilliant yellow with vivid orange sclerae, and they were shaded by light yellow sunglasses with triangular lenses with fake melted candle wax droppings. She wore a dark gold blouse with a light gold tie, underneath a vivid gold dress jacket with small oval shaped shoulder pads, white ovals with gold outlines, a light goldish gray collar with brilliant yellow lining, and fake melted wax features on her shoulders and lower arms, and medium sized coattails. She also wore vivid gold dress pants with round legs, and matching medium heeled boots.
Personality[]
As a Civilian[]
Véronique is very passionate with her work, taking good care of the wax statues in it so people can admire them and have a good time at the museum. It is at her believe that the wax statues of the famous people exposed there can inspire the visitors. This is reflected by how she had an entire room dedicated to Ladybug and Cat Noir along with the statues of akumatized villains that represent the people they have saved.
After Monarch stole all the Miraculous under Ladybug's care, in order to help the heroes, Véronique decided to build an entire exposition about Ladybug and Cat Noir together with their superhero team with the intent of giving hope to the visitors.
As Manipula[]
Her sense of heroism was twisted by Monarch who made her believe that it was Ladybug's fault that the Miraculous were lost, the other superheroes were gone and the reason why the mayor forbade her from opening her exposition. As well as causing her to act overconfidence, cocky and gloatful firstly she believed in Monarch's promise he would stop akumatizing people if she delivered him Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous (and thinking she would be able to stop him if he went back on his word, unaware he could just take way her powers), Manipula stopped at nothing to defeat the two heroes, all while getting her revenge on Mayor Bourgeois for forbidding her from exposing her superhero wax statues.
She hastily believed just because she had a team and the heroes didn't, Manipula could easily defeat them, unknown to her that numbers don't always decide who wins and loses.
Abilities[]
As Manipula[]
She could place a pamphlet on the forehead of a wax statue, animating the statues and allowing her to control them. The animated statues were able to replicate the powers of the originals, like Rena Rouge's statue being able to use Mirage, Polymouse's being able to use Multitude, Cat Noir's being able to use Cataclysm and Ladybug's being able to use Lucky Charm. Her statues appeared to be able to think on their own, as they, despite following her orders, were able to talk and even play mind games with their opponents, like Cat Noir's wax statue did with Ladybug.
With the addition of her own powers, Manipula got from Monarch the power of the Ox Miraculous, Resistance, that gave her the ability to become invulnerable to the magic of the other Miraculous. She used her power to neutralize the effects of Cat Noir's Cataclysm and, in this way, leave him defenseless and about to detransform. However, despite being invulnerable to the power of the other Miraculous and powers related to them (and possibly to other types), Resistance would not protect her from things like a fallen chandelier.
Manipula also seemed to have a very strategic mind, as she had her statues to pursue Ladybug and Cat Noir in pairs and use ambushes, knowing they would need to get their pamphlets in order to release her akuma, all while she would focus on Mayor Bourgeois, having him to choose between letting her have her superhero exposition or having his Hôtel de Ville destroyed. She was also smart enough to not let Minotaurox's statue leave her side, as it was the only statue that was invulnerable to Ladybug and Cat Noir's powers and it could help her deal with them once they tried to stop her.
