Description[]
In Paris, the Seine is almost 13 kilometers long. Its width varies between 30 meters and 200 meters, and its depth also varies between 3.40 meters and 5.70 meters.
The river divides the city into two areas, called the Right Bank (northern part) and the Left Bank (southern part).
Entering Paris from the southeast between the 12th and 13th arrondissements, it takes a northwest direction until reaching the historic center of Paris. Here the Seine splits into two arms to form two islands, Île Saint-Louis and Île de la Cité.
Further on, at Place de la Concorde, the river heads west. Just before the Champ de Mars and the Trocadéro, the Seine begins to follow a south-southwest direction.
It is divided one last time in two by an artificial island, Île aux Cygnes, before leaving the capital between the 16th and 15th arrondissements.
All along its course, the Seine is surrounded by quays where Parisians like to walk and sit, as well as parks and gardens to enjoy the calm of the river on sunny days.
