== Description ==
This superpower allows the user to turn back time by a few minutes and give themselves another chance. It is activated by the user speaking its name.

=== Miraculous owner ===
First, the Snake Miraculous user slides back the snake figurehead on the Miraculous to mark that moment in time. Over the course of five minutes, the figurehead slowly slides back into place. When in need, the user activates the power by sliding the snake figurehead back again.

Once activated, time is instantly reversed back to the marked moment, creating an [[Alternative timelines|alternate timeline]]. Once time is reversed, everything goes back to the way it was when the moment in time was marked, everyone goes back to where they were standing and everyone loses all memories of the old timeline, as if it never happened. There is however one difference; after turning time back to their starting point, the Snake Miraculous user alone retains all memories of what happened before time was reversed.

This allows the user to plan ahead and correct any issues or mistakes that occurred in the original timeline, as well as allow them to give helpful advice to their allies. Turning back time also allows the user to undo any accomplishments their opponent had achieved. The moment in time remains marked in case the Snake Miraculous user needs to go back to it again.

Once time has been turned back, any events or memories experienced by the user's allies will be erased from existence entirely, as they literally never happened. They can't even be restored by the [[Miraculous Ladybug (superpower)|Miraculous Ladybug]]. After Ladybug used her power to undo the damage in "Desperada", she didn't have any knowledge of the erased timelines that she lived through when Adrien used the Snake Miraculous as Aspik.

The Snake Miraculous holder can use this power as many times as they want within the five minute window that it takes for the snake figurehead to slide back into place, and that time limit is reset back to the full five minutes with each and every activation. This also mean that, for a young Miraculous holder, the five minute time limit before they detransform after using their superpower is also reset. However, if five minutes pass without this power being activated, then the marked moment will be lost, and the Snake Miraculous owner won't be able to go back to that point in time anymore. Notably, the user doesn't just remember the last timeline they lived through, they remember every alternate timeline they've erased and redone.

In "[[Intuition]]", it appears that an adult holder, who is able to use the power multiple times without detransforming, is capable of overwriting the marked moment with a new one, achieved with the same action used to mark the initial moment. However, [[Gabriel Agreste|Monarch]] did this with the Snake Miraculous only after it had been reforged into a ring, so it is currently unknown if this circumstance changes the rules.

Second Chance allows the user to try every possible strategy until victory is achieved, but it also has applications other than direct combat; it can be used to figure out codes, the user can try every possible combination and turn back time with every failure until they succeed, as seen in "[[Ephemeral]]". Furthermore, as seen in "[[Wishmaker]]", it can be used to keep secrets, when [[Gabriel Agreste|Shadow Moth]] learned the secret identities of [[Marinette Dupain-Cheng|Ladybug]] and [[Adrien Agreste|Cat Noir]], the power of Second Chance made it so that that never happened and their identities remained safe, although the user, [[Luka Couffaine|Viperion]] still found out and remembered who they really are.

The power can also be used to help the user and their allies avoid hidden traps, as long as they mark the time before the trap is sprung.

=== Sass ===

As shown in "[[Ephemeral]]", when Second Chance is used directly by [[Sass]], time is reversed back to any previously marked moment of Sass' choosing, regardless of how long ago it was. However, it also causes the past to get all jumbled together at the moment Sass returned to, resulting in numerous time anomalies; various objects, vehicles, living creatures, and even people from multiple points in the past rapidly appearing and disappearing over a large area. Furthermore, there is no telling where these apparitions of the past might appear; when Sass used the power in "Ephemeral", [[Jeanne d'Arc|Scarlet Fate]] appeared at the top of the [[Eiffel Tower]], despite the fact that the tower wasn't built until long after her death and therefore she never could have been standing on it at any point in her life, meaning she wasn't taken from the same location when she was pulled across time.

It also disrupts all the mechanical or digital devices that use or measure the passage of time in order to function, such as clocks, traffic lights, and Wi-Fi. It's unknown if Sass' power also disrupts time keeping devices that don't use said components to keep time like a sundial, an obelisk or something as simple as a bell.   

Interestingly, the disrupted devices can be fixed by resetting the satellite that oversees their function, as opposed to most instances of a kwami using their superpower without a holder, which requires the [[Miraculous Ladybug (superpower)|Miraculous Ladybug]] to stop and fix things. Although, the various objects, vehicles, living creatures, and people from the past appearing and disappearing still require the magic ladybugs to get rid of them.

== Weaknesses ==

The most obvious weakness of Second Chance, as seen in "[[Penalteam]]", is that the user needs to actually mark a moment in time before the power can be used, and the user cannot go back to before a moment was marked. If the user is intercepted, trapped, or otherwise put in a disadvantageous position before they have a chance to mark a moment, then they would be unable to go back to before they were in that bad situation, thereby making it so there is no point in using the power.

As seen in "[[Desperada]]", "[[Wishmaker]]" and "[[Intuition]]", while Second Chance does allow the user to undo any progress their opponent has made, any progress the user has made will be undone as well, requiring them to start their plan all over again. Another weakness seen in "Intuition", is that anyone can trigger the power, not just the user, so an opponent could utilize the power to undo the user's progress. Although, if someone else does trigger the power, their memory of the previous timeline would be erased and only the Snake Miraculous user would remember and be able to adapt their actions accordingly.

Also seen in "Intuition", time is turned back for everyone else and for the rest of the world, but not for the user. The user does go back to the location where they were standing when time was marked, but that's it. The user remembers everything, and so does their body; when [[Gabriel Agreste|Monarch]] used the power of Second Chance to try to help his [[Akumatized villains]], his [[Cataclysm]] injury did not get turned back with the rest of time and instead continued to spread as if time were still flowing normally, basically speeding up the spread of the injury and shortening what time he had left.

According to [[Wang Fu|Master Fu]] in "[[Desperada]]" the Snakes power is a very strong one and requires the user to be wise enough to use it properly. Second Chance can be hindered if the user's mind isn't focused or in the right state, as demonstrated by [[Adrien Agreste]] when he became Aspik; he repeatedly put his own personal feelings for Ladybug above everyone and everything else, even the heroine herself, leading to tens of thousands of constant and repeated failures. Same with Monarch in "Destruction"; he was so confident that he was going to win against Ladybug and that the heroine had no idea what he was up to, he didn't even think that she had set up a contingency plan ahead of time and that he might have been walking right into her trap, and didn't bother to set a marker before he got caught.

As shown in "Intuition", while the user can provide helpful advice to their allies after time has been reversed, they must be careful with the information they provide, or else they might end up ruining their own plan. Monarch tried to tell [[A.D.A.|Bugfighter]] various methods of sabotaging Ladybug's plan to defeat her, but this always led the Akumatized A.I. to figure out that she was deceived about losing her pilot.

If someone knows about Second Chance, they can think ahead of the user. As shown in "[[Party Crasher]]" when the titular villain captured Carapace and Viperion used Second Chance to prevent him from being captured. However, Party Crasher used his future vision to predict what Viperion was going to do and captured him. This happened again in "[[Miracle Queen (The Battle of the Miraculous - Part 2)|Miracle Queen]]" when a mind controlled Viperion used Second Chance to intercept Cat Noir, however he wasn't focused on Ladybug who managed to take the Snake Miraculous.

Finally, there are some situations that simply cannot be won, even with infinite chances. One example is when the user of Second Chance is fighting against the user of the [[Ladybug Miraculous|Ladybug]] power, [[Lucky Charm]]. This power creates the perfect object to help the user solve the problem, and therefore the power would adapt with each new timeline and give the user a different object, to compensate for the Snake Miraculous users change in tactics. Another example is the opponent's own ability to counter any possible outcome; Monarch used the power of Second Chance many times to try to help his Akumatized villains, but it always ended in failure due to Ladybug's cunning and Cat Noir's unpredictability always getting the best of him.

In "[[Miraculous Paris]]", it is revealed that using the special superpower uses vital energy from the Kwami, but also from the miraculous holder. It's one thing for an adult holder, but for an underage holder, who is less physically and mentally capable of handling the strain, there is a security system in place that limits them to only using their special power once and causes them to detransform before it becomes dangerous. However, using the Miraculous for evil overrides the limiter, allowing an underage holder to use their powers to their full potential. As previously stated, a younger holder cannot handle the strain; dark veins of corruption will gradually spread across their body, and they will inevitably be destroyed.

* The nature of the Snake Miraculous's power could possibly be a reference to the Ouroboros, a snake biting its own tail, symbolizing eternal return, along with self-reflexivity and cyclicality, as Second Chance allows the holder to only go backward in time a few seconds or minutes.
* The power being born from the concept of '''Intuition''' is shown by how the ability of the user to go back in time is perceived by others, as the user appears to possess an intuition that tells them what is going to happen before it happens, allowing them to take measures to counter it. Not just that, but it takes an intuitive person to better put this power into use, so they don't get stuck in the loop without being able to achieve the outcome they desire.
* It is the one of the two Miraculous powers shown to be able to manipulate time, alongside [[Burrow]], which is used through the [[Rabbit Miraculous]].
* Second Chance is the fourth known superpower to not need a [[Lyre|Miraculous tool]] to be activated, following Burrow, [[Akumatization]], and [[Cataclysm]].
* This power is similar to [[Adam|Replay's]], having time-altering ability utilizing using a wrist band.

* In "[[Intuition]]", it's revealed that those that use Second Chance are not affected by the rewinding of time, being only brought back to the moment they activated the power. However, it's unknown if that also includes aging. If aging is also included, then both Aspik, Viperion and Monarch may have aged faster due to the times they have used Second Chance.
** However, it's important to notice that Aspik and Viperion used their power in conjuntion with Ladybug's Miraculous Ladybug. Since the Miraculous Ladybug can revert any damage caused during battle, it's possible the power may have reverted the two Snake Miraculous heroes' physical age to what it was before they used Second Chance, since they used their power during the fight to stop the villain. Because Monarch's use of Second Chance didn't take direct involvement in the fight, it's possible the Miraculous Ladybug didn't fix the spreading of the Cataclysm on his body, despite it is also possible that the very nature of the untreated Cataclysm prevents it from being fixed by the power of creation, even if just a little.
* In "Intuition", it's revealed that Second Chance is the only power that Monarch doesn't give to any of his akumatized villains, as giving them power over time would mean losing control of their actions and could possibly leave him vulnerable to Ladybug and Cat Noir.
** At the end of the episode, Monarch himself was forced to stop using Second Chance ever again, as it was accelerating the advance of his Cataclysm wound. 
*** The only way for Second Chance to become useful for him again is if he found an akumatized villain who he can trust the power to. Since Nathalie was afflicted with the illness caused by the use of the damaged Peacock Miraculous, the only one who fitted the description is Tomoe Tsurugi. However, it's possible that she herself has a condition that prevents her from using the Second Chance as well, as Gabriel had never considered that option.
