"Reunion" is a Season 5 episode of the series, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. As based on the series' production order specifically, "Reunion" is the 8th written and produced episode of Season 5. It is also the 112th written and produced episode of the series, overall.
Synopsis
While visiting the Louvre museum, Marinette makes a double discovery. First, she realizes that her friend Alix, whom she's entrusted with the Rabbit Miraculous, has found a way to communicate with her loved ones without setting foot in the present. Second, Marinette learns that she herself can use her kwagatama to communicate with the Memories of the former Miraculous holders. Will this help her escape the trap that Monarch has set for her?

Plot
Alim Kubdel is supervising the insertion of antiques into his museum when Marinette, invited to the museum, is asking Alya why she can't be in love with Cat Noir, and wonders if other Ladybugs have been in love with other Black Cats. She asks Tikki and she suggest Jeanne d'Arc, and how she fell in love with a Black Cat holder. Tikki says that there was no Monarch for them and that for more information she would have to ask Jeanne d'Arc herself using her Kwagatama. Alya keeps watch to make sure no-one comes. Marinette starts the meeting by touching her Kwagatama to the base of the painting of Jeanne d'Arc. Marinette stumbles back and accidentally knocks down a painting. In the back is an ancient hidden letter. The letter is from Alix.
Meanwhile, Adrien asks for permission to accept an invitation from Mr Kubdel, inviting him to the museum and is given permission. At the museum, Mr Kubdel reads letters written by Alix and shows the students who were invited photos of Bunnyx in her past adventures. During the excursion, Jalil Kubdel declares that Ladybug has kidnapped his sister and uses his Alliance ring to show posts that prove his theory. His father says that he's spending too much time on the internet. Jalil leaves angrily. Alim says that he had trouble dealing with his sister's loss.
Marinette and Alya go back to where they were when they found the hidden letter. Marinette uses her kwagatama and manages to get in contact with Jeanne d'Arc. After Tikki explains Marinette's situation and why she was summoned, Jeanne d'Arc gets angry at Marinette, demanding that she ends the reunion.
Meanwhile, Jalil listens to the comments people have posted about Ladybug and thanks, to one by Lila, he is convinced Monarch is good while Ladybug and Cat Noir are the villains. He hopes Monarch will akumatize him and promises him he will get the Miraculouses of Ladybug and Cat Noir.
Meanwhile in his lair, Monarch senses Jalil's plead and strong emotions. He creates a megakuma and absorbs Kaalki into his ring. He then uses the power of Voyage to teleport the megakuma to Jalil. Monarch says he will get back the Rabbit Miraculous and make up for his mistakes to Emilie and Nathalie. The megakuma goes into the binder that Jalil carries with him. Jalil gets akumatized into Pharaoh. Monarch than transfers the essence of the Turtle Miraculous by absorbing Wayzz and giving him the power of protection, as Carapace's Shell-ter, to Pharaoh. He uses it on the Book of Truth, a book capable of telling him the truth from the lies to protect it.
The Book of Truth transforms the museum into a giant pyramid traps the people inside. Meanwhile, Jeanne d'Arc is still telling Marinette to end the reunion. Adrien is out of the museum and transforms into Cat Noir and inside the museum, Marinette transforms into Ladybug. Ladybug is surprised when she still sees Jeanne d'Arc. Mr Kubdel is imprisoned in a page of the Book of Truth due to him incorrectly answering a question. Cat Noir manages to enter the museum and freeing some of the people due to him answering the question the Book of Truth correctly.
Ladybug answers one of the questions the Book of Truth asks her. When Jeanne d'Arc sees Cat Noir, she is surprised as to how weak he is and wonders how Ladybug could be in love with him. When the Book asks Ladybug and Cat Noir a question from the future, they realize only Bunnyx can answer it due to her time-travelling powers. Ladybug uses her Lucky Charm and receives a pen. She thinks and realizes how to answer the book's question.
She takes a museum booklet and writes to Bunnyx what is happening in the present and puts the booklet behind the painting. In the future, Alix finds the booklet and reads the instructions Ladybug wrote her. She transforms into Bunnyx and uses her power, Burrow to travel to July 14, 200 years from when the letter was written. She notices there is a thunderstorm and draws a symbol of it on the booklet. Bunnyx travels to the moment when Mr Kubdel was inserting the new antique and hides it under the cat statue Ladybug told it to hide it under.
Meanwhile, in the present, Ladybug finds the booklet under the cat statue and sees Bunnyx's drawing of the answer and uses it to answer the question asked by the Book of Truth. Ladybug and Cat Noir finally meet face-to-face with Pharaoh. Cat Noir uses his power and cataclysms the shield that protects the book only for Pharaoh to use his power on the book again. Ladybug convinces Pharaoh to ask his book to see if Alix really did want to help Ladybug. After seeing that Ladybug was right the entire time, he realizes that Monarch lied to him and rejects the megakuma.
After purifying the megakuma and fixing the damage with her Lucky Charm, Pharaoh is deakumatized back into Jalil. After seeing the message left by Bunnyx, Jeanne d'Arc is proud of Ladybug. Monarch detransforms into Gabriel and apologizes to Nathalie for failing to get the Miraculous of the Rabbit. Jeanne d'Arc tells her story of her love life to Marinette. Jeanne d'Arc was known as The Scarlet Fate and fell in love with a Cat Miraculous holder called The Dark Grimalkin after they fought each other. They both wanted to be in love with each other and displeased the kings and The Scarlet Fate and The Dark Grimalkin both gave up their Miraculouses.
After ending the reunion, Marinette learns that romance between the Ladybug holder and the holder of the Miraculous of the Cat can happen but the ending can be unpredictable. At the Agreste mansion, as Adrien is lying on his bed, Plagg makes him his very own kwagatama as the episode ends.

- This is the first season 5 episode that is not named after the concept of a Miraculous.
- That is, however, the very power of the kwagatama.
- There are many reunions in the episode:
- Alix was able to reunite with her family and friends by sending them letters and messages placed on the exhibitions of the museum.
- Alim Kubdel gathered Alix's friends so he can share with them the letter he had just received.
- Marinette was able to make a reunion with one of the past holders of her Miraculous, with that holder being Jeanne d'Arc.
- It's revealed there is a forum where all the haters of Ladybug gather to insult her and Cat Noir, with Chloé belonging to that same forum.

- When it comes into contact with a symbol of the Order of the Guardians from an artifact in the Louvre Museum such as the Ladybug statue, and the holder says "Reunion" they can summon their kwami's previous owners who first appear in a ring of ethereal portraits of the past Miraculous holders will appear all around the current holder. When the current holder selects the portrait of the previous holder they want said holder will appear in the form of a ghost or spirit.
- Only the current Miraculous holder and the kwami will be able to see and hear the spirit, and the same rule applies to the ethereal portrait as anyone else would just see regular empty air.
- This is similar to how only the Renren can see the Renlings, as seen in "Miraculous Shanghai".
- The summoned spirit is also not able to interact with the physical world.
- Jeanne says, "I keep forgetting", implying that she was summoned before.
- According to Jeanne, a Miraculous holder with a kwagatama can only talk with the previous holders that have the same Miraculous as they do.
- In other words, for Marinette to talk to the other Rabbit holders, she would need Fluff's kwagatama.
- The summoned spirit only retains their memories as a Miraculous holder, not including what happened to them after they renounced their Miraculouses.
- But since Tikki said they "can't" know what happened to their real selves it's implied something bad will happen if they do.
- The spirit will remain with the current holder until or unless they say "End of Reunion".
- Marinette is the only one of her holder legacy to be a Miraculous holder and guardian, but if the Ladybug Statue in the Louvre Museum can only retain the memories of the past Ladybugs as Miraculous holders through the use of the kwagatama. It's unknown if that will work for Marinette if or when she relinquishes her title as guardian.
- This is the fourth time Jalil gets akumatized into The Pharaoh, following "The Pharaoh", "Catalyst" and "Mayura".
- Jalil is the sixth person to voluntarily akumatize themselves, following Gabriel Agreste, Nathalie Sancoeur, Lila Rossi, Chloé Bourgeois and Tomoe Tsurugi.
- Jalil is also the second person to willingly call out to be akumatized, following Chloé in "Penalteam".
- But unlike the others mentioned above, Jalil's intentions were not based on powers nor revenge, but concern.
- This episode shows the fourth time Monarch went after specifically another Miraculous besides the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous, intending to recover the Rabbit Miraculous so he can finish what he failed to do in "Evolution": give his past self the recipe to fix the Peacock Miraculous so Emilie and Nathalie are spared from the ill effects of the use of the damage Miraculous, following "Miraculous New York", "Miraculous Shanghai" and "Sentibubbler".
- This is the sixth episode we see a white background and not the actual destination for a portal made by Voyage, after "Destruction", "Jubilation" "Illusion", "Determination", and "Passion".
- Jalil is the sixth person to reject an Akuma after being fully akumatized and return back to normal on their own, following Alya in "Gang of Secrets", Nino in "Rocketear", Sabine in "Qilin", Gabriel in "Dearest Family" and Chloé in "Penalteam".

- A painting reveals a former Rabbit Miraculous female holder. It is based on Ghirlandaio's "Portrait of a Lady with a Rabbit".
- There was an English Cat Miraculous holder called Dark Grimalkin.
- In the photo of Alix with the Three Musketeers, one of them was a woman and it's been confirmed one of Ladybug's predecessors was apart of the guard but it's unknown if that is what La Coccinelle looked like in civilian form or not.
- More about Jeanne d'Arc is revealed in this episode:
- She was chosen as a Ladybug Miraculous holder (using the name Scarlet Fate) to fight against a Cat Miraculous holder called Dark Grimalkin, who served England during the Hundred Years War.
- She and Dark Grimalkin were manipulated by their own monarchs to fight each other, even if that meant the suffering of the people.
- The two of them fell in love and ended up living that love in secret, but they were caught and sentenced to die for treason, with Jeanne being sentenced to die by fire at the stake.
- Unlike her real life counterpart, Jeanne d'Arc actually managed to escape the stake and she and Dark Grimalkin abdicated their Miraculous to live in peace together. It's unknown if they lived happily after that.
- She and Grimalkin were the first Ladybug and Cat Noir pair to be on opposite sides of the conflict, pursue each other romantically and be together.
- In a way both Ladybug and Cat Noir pairs were similar: as both were used or sought out by those who were consumed by greed.
- Ignoblia makes a cameo appearance as a profile picture of one of the comments Jalil reads.
- This episode introduces a new usage of the Pharaoh's power: Maat, the goddess of truth, allows him to transfer his power to a living book that will ask trivia questions and imprison those who answer incorrectly.
- This episode introduces a new background theme for the Cataclysm sequence.
- This is the twenty-fourth time where Ladybug's Lucky Charm is an object that appeared in a previous episode. This time, it's the pen that previously appeared in "The Dark Owl".

- Jalil acted similar to Hawk Moth and Lady Wifi in "Lady Wifi":
- As all three were desperate to get what they wanted despite the consequences.
- Jalil and Hawk Moth were blinded by obsession and revenge but unlike Hawk Moth, Jalil had the rationally to think of most obvious solution to his problem.
- This is the fourth episode of seasons 4 and 5 not to have a polka-dotted pattern on its end card, following "Rocketear", "Penalteam", and "Determination".
- This is the tenth time the Magical Charms don't appear following "Sentibubbler", "Hack-San", "Ephemeral", "Kuro Neko", "Risk", "Evolution", "Destruction", "Illusion", and "Passion".
- Like "Ephemeral" and "Kuro Neko", Jalil's magical charm could have been given to him offscreen or like "Glaciator 2" Ladybug may have forgot to give him one.
- This is the seventh time, a character gets hit in the head with Ladybug's own yo-yo following "Stormy Weather", "The Bubbler", "Ladybug & Cat Noir", "Reflekdoll", "Silencer" and "Psycomedian".
- This is the second time Ladybug gets hit in the head with her own yo-yo, following "Stormy Weather".
- Like in "Lies", "Psycomedian" and "Sole Crusher", Ladybug stops Cat Noir from using his power hastily.
- Similarly to what happened in "Oblivio", Cat Noir calls Ladybug's kwagatama a "hakuna matata", which is the word referenced of "The Lion King".
- It's revealed that Gabriel knows that Alix is Bunnyx. It's unknown if Adrien gave him this information (which would be a mistake), or if he found out by searching for the negative emotions of the students in Mrs. Bustier's class like Chloé or Lila.
- This is one of the several times Cat Noir used Cataclysm to destroy the same object this time it was Shellter shield which was in "Evolution".
- Similar to "Reflekta" and "Risk", had Jalil calmed down and asked Ladybug what really happened on the day Alix left he most likely never would've listened to tabloids or Monarch in the first place.
- As shown in the season 5 finale "Re-creation", this episode foreshadows the main timeline Paris' future: A more modern, more green city. Both in the time period Alix is in when she finds Ladybug message, as well as the far future she travels to as part of her mission, Paris is way, way more ecological compared to its' present day counterpart. A change that we now know started with Ms. Bustier's mayoracy.
- The photo of Marinette Adrien looks at at the end of the episode is from "Captain Hardrock".
- For an unknown reason, the episode was removed from DisneyNow sometime in June or July of 2023, only to be added back in August.[2][3]
Errors
- Alix says she will keep the mystery of who posed for the Mona Lisa a secret, but in 2005 (nine years before the show canonically takes place), scientists already discovered that it was a woman named Lisa del Giocondo. However, we do know that the Quantic Universe has differences like these, compare to the real world.
- When Monarch is about to leave the lair, most of the kwami cages are empty.
- When Pharaoh breaks free of his Akumatization, his light mask and Monarch's use the old Shadow Moth light mask design.
- Pharaoh's light mask also lingers for one frame despite it already being broken.
- When Adrien transforms, he says, "Claws out." instead of "Plagg, claws out."
- When Marrinette goes to touch the Ancient European Rabbit Miraculous holder portrait with her Kwagatama, Alya doesn't appear, but when the walls summon by Shell-ter appears, She also appears.
- When Bunnyx goes into the future to see how the weather will be, there is a tree right next to her. But in the next shot, that tree is missing.
- The Pharaoh's shield doesn't appear except in the shots where he uses Shell-ter.
- This is similar to how in "Passion", the Paint Brush appeared only when Safari used Genesis.
- In the English dub, Ladybug's "Time to de-evilize" line, and Jalil's line seconds later, "I'm sorry I doubted you, Ladybug", are slightly sped up.
- Similarly, Monarch's monologue line when he sends out a megakuma "And finally, I will make up for my mistakes" is cut off in between.
