"Representation" is a Season 5 episode of the series, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. As based on the series' production order specifically, "Representation" is the 24th written and produced episode of Season 5. It is also the 128th written and produced episode of the series, overall.
Synopsis[]
When Adrien disobeys his father to go find Marinette, Gabriel akumatizes himself to find his son. Meanwhile, Marinette is certain that Adrien is looking for her. Thinking she's joining the boy she loves, she will discover a secret nothing could have prepared her for.[4]
Disney+[]
Marinette discovers a secret she was not prepared for.
Plot[]
The episode begins with the BBD news studio. The news presenter tells all the Parisians that former mayor André Bourgeois has resigned and that there is already a candidate, the French teacher Ms Bustier. He also says that as always in the past, Armand D'Argencourt will also be running for mayor. The presenter wishes them good luck then turns the attention over to the arrival of 'couple' Adrien and Kagami. A video then show of them both saying that they love each other dearly ever since their parents associated with each other. The screen then reveals that Adrien was watching the broadcast and he starts to question his own actions. Plagg who was fiddling with a postcard answers his question by reminding him that he let his own father control his life and 'selling his life story through a fake narrative'. However, he then apologizes for his brutally honest words.
Meanwhile, in another hotel room, the same broadcast was being watched by Kagami, who becomes infuriated when she listens to her own words being said on TV. However, her rage is halted as she spots Argos. He then breathes onto the glass pane near the balcony of the hotel room and draws a heart. Kagami giggles, and joins him as they hop away from the hotel.
Afterwards, Marinette is seen getting into the elevator crying. Tikki asks if she can help but Marinette says if she knows some jokes but kwamis can't. All her classmates welcome her and thank her for organizing this party with Zoé by shining a light on her.
At this moment, Félix and Kagami arrive at the scene. Félix asks Kagami if she is wrong about 'it' being Marinette, Kagami says she couldn't believe it either, but it's the only possible explanation, revealing that Kagami and Félix are aware Marinette is Ladybug, from Kagami overhearing her conversation with Alya in "Perfection", then informing Félix later. She tells Félix they don't have a choice in trusting her, as she is her friend, and without her help, Tomoe and Gabriel will never allow them to love each other. They share a kiss before Félix jumps down, detransforms, hides his Miraculous and messes up his hair, already in costume as Adrien.
Some of her classmates thank her about everything she has done. But she sees "Adrien" (actually Félix) and is confident about him being really Adrien. She starts to follow him but some of her friends ask what's wrong, mainly Nino and Alya, but Marinette doesn't listen to them and continues to follow him.
Meanwhile back at the Agreste mansion, Gabriel becomes furious at the fact that both Adrien and Kagami have disappeared from the hotel. The bodyguard has no clue where they are. Tomoe, on the other hand, says that she is not surprised that Adrien disobeyed his father, but is outraged that Kagami disobeyed her, so she demands Gabriel to akumatize her. However, he hangs up not before saying that he'll deal with the situation himself. His way of dealing with the situation being taking one of the Graham de Vanily Twin Rings back from Nathalie, who is confident Adrien will escape him, telling her that she is not worthy of upholding the legacy of the Agrestes. Gabriel then enters his lair to akumatize himself into Nightormentor, his second akumatized identity, before granting himself the power of Voyage.
Later, Astrocat appears to look for Marinette in the party but instead, he sees a new akumatized person- his own father that calls himself Nightormentor, who demands to know where Marinette and Adrien are. Cat Noir fights him and argues with him about his parenting techniques. As Cat Noir dodges his magic dust, he hits Rose which awakens her nightmare. Nightormentor says that he will stop her nightmare if they reveal him the location of Adrien and Marinette. Juleka says never and he also hits her. Cat Noir wants to hit him, but before he can do this, he uses the power of migration to escape. Max then states that there's a 98.9% chance that he went after Marinette.
The episode continues with Marinette following Félix into the school's art room where she instead finds a drawing from Nathaniel that makes her cry more. Félix and Kagami are listening to this from the rooftop while Duusu cries, but Félix reassures her that they are doing this for a happy ending, making her happy, just before Félix transforms back into Argos. Then after making sure Kagami is ready, he creates an amok to blow into Kagami's ring, creating the sentimonster Once Upon a Time, a projector-like sentimonster.
Meanwhile, Nightormentor enters Marinette's room and grows annoyed at seeing Marinette's desktop wallpaper being Adrien themed. Cat Noir finds him in here and demands for him to leave his classmates alone, Nightormentor attacks him while Cat Noir ridicules his father for needing better parenting skills. The latter throws the former into Marinette's desk, when he happily looks at a picture of Adrien and Marinette herself, before Nightormentor creates a Voyage portal and leaves through it, Cat Noir barely being able to catch up to him.
Back in the school's art room, Marinette is curled up crying on the floor, when she hears Once Upon a Time starting to project a light onto a stage, where Kagami and 'Adrien' are in white suits, putting on white masks and silencing Marinette. They start to recite a fairy tale-esque play, where a king and queen were expecting a child, a boy, praising him for being able to continue their kingdom lineage, while zooming in on the ring the king is wearing. They were surprised to have not a son, but twin girls instead. Initially struggling over who they should hand over their legacy to, they decided to hand it to the child who was born seven seconds earlier, (Emilie Agreste), with her father also giving her the Graham de Vanily Twin Rings.
In Paris again, Nightormentor is watching the fireworks, asking himself who Adrien is, where once again Cat Noir attacks him, 'suggesting' that Adrien is avoiding him, as he isn't a nice father. They engage in a brief fight, Cat Noir saying that he should leave the girl and boy alone, before Nightormentor once again uses Voyage, this time Cat Noir is unable to follow him, and falls off the building into the road, calling Nightormentor, and effectively Gabriel as a whole, a coward.
Continuing the play, 'Adrien' explains that the two twins grew up, both quite different. The "firstborn": Emilie was more curious, escaping the life at court at every opportunity she could, meanwhile the "younger sister": Amelile wanted to please her family, becoming well-behaved and staying in the castle. The king and queen wonder if they entrusted their legacy to the right princess, believing she will be better behaved eventually. Due to this belief, Emilie was allowed to leave the castle, where she studied overseas in another kingdom. Here is where she fell in love with a "humble tailor": Gabriel. Marinette realizes who this is referring to. Gabriel made magnificent clothes that revealed the beauty of anyone who wore them. Despite her parents' anger, Emilie gave up her legacy and luxury to be with the tailor. She takes her ring off, splits it into two, and gives one half to Gabriel, while she keeps the other half herself. Emilie concludes that the only thing left to have a truly happy life is for them to have a child. Meanwhile, to please her parents, Amelie marries a man described to be "a wealthy, yet heartless Lord of War": Colt. They also dreamed for a child, to be the heir to their kingdom.
Going back to Paris yet again, Nightormentor is calling out for Adrien, when Cat Noir catches up with him, once again ridiculing him, saying he would not want a father like him. Nightormentor fights Cat Noir, saying he would teach him some manners if he was his son. Cat Noir tells him he would say that he couldn't always make decisions for people, that his responsibility for having a child is to allow them to blossom and be free. Just when Nightormentor is cornered and Cat Noir is about to cataclysm his blowpipe, he remarks on how sorry he feels for his son. Nightormentor says his son is very happy, putting Cat Noir in shock. This allows Nightormentor to kick Cat Noir back and finally hit him with the magic dust, awakening his nightmare, while Nightormentor tells him to learn some respect.
In the play, time passes, and neither couple were able to have a child. After some time, Emilie resigned herself to the court, to be able to benefit from the remedies her sister did. But this didn't work, until one day, the curious princess was expecting. During this scene, peacock feathers appear behind the couple, shocking Marinette, as she realizes the truth. Colt is furious at this, believing he and his wife deserved a child more than Emilie who abandoned her kingdom. Colt confronts Gabriel and says how it's unfair, whereas Gabriel suggests it's a miracle. Emilie feels bad for her sister and brother in-law, and asks Gabriel if he can let them have a child as well. Gabriel confronts Colt and says that he has found a solution for him and his wife, but he will have to pay a price: to give his best knight to guard their future child. For this exchange a magic amulet will be lent, one that is able to give life to creations and dreams, and allows the creator to control them: the Peacock Miraculous. Colt refuses to use sorcery; Gabriel says it ultimately up to him whether he decides to use it, but the former accepts and takes the 'amulet,' using the miraculous to create an amok and inserting it into his ring. The jealously he uses comes to life, allowing his wife to become pregnant, once again showing peacock feathers in the background, though unlike Gabriel, Colt is reluctant to touch the belly. A few months after this, both sons were born from their mothers.
Cat Noir wakes up in his nightmare, where Paris is in ruins, the moon is destroyed similar to Cat Blanc, the sky is orange and everyone is destroyed, encased in fragile statues. His suit is white, while his hair, skin and eyes are blue. Cat Noir questions everything in horror while Nightormentor comments this is what happens to ill-mannered children who can't control their anger. Cat Noir realizes he is holding a destroyed Ladybug, denying that he did this, before the Ladybug crumbles to dust. He kneels down and sobs, while Nightormentor says that if he hands over his Miraculous, the nightmare will end, which the distraught Cat Noir agrees to. The villain grins.
In the play, Colt has fallen ill some time after his son was born, believing he was paying the price for using magic the weaker he became. This made his fear morph into hatred for his creation, his son, constantly mistreating and calling him a monster. His son did not understand why his father didn't love him, which is said as 'Adrien' takes off his mask and faces Marinette. Marinette realizes he and the son in the play are Félix, feeling sympathy for him. Felix also did not understand why he felt like he needed to obey his father at every command he gave, even if these commands were hurtful to him. If he became fond of anything his father did not approve of, his father would then destroy it. The lord of war continued to call his son a monster through all this time, partially damaging his ring at some point, causing the child to collapse. Félix soon realized that his life was linked to the very ring that caused him to obey his father. He could only recover the ring, and therefore his freedom, when his father passed away. Félix realizes that 'amulet' that allow his mother to gave him life could also take away it. He went to the tailor's house - who had become a prince - in order to steal the amulet. But this prince was powerful, and the only thing he would trade the amulet for, were other amulets that he desired. Marinette recognizes it as "The day she lost the Chinese Zodiac Miraculouses".
Nightormentor is just about to take Cat Noir's ring, when Nino's log is thrown at him, by none other than Nino, who is with Alya and Kim, asking him why he's so mean to people. They throw balls and other objects at him, distracting him long enough for Ivan to use a bunting banner to tie him up and get him away from Cat Noir. Nino sends Kim to check on Cat Noir, who slowly starts to come to his senses. Kim and later Max say that they need Cat Noir at 100%, as Ladybug is nowhere to be seen. Alya is fighting Nightormentor, who throws her to the ground. Just as he is about to use his blowpipe to strike, Cat Noir cataclysms it, releasing the akuma and turning Nightormentor back into Gabriel. Zoé catches the akuma in a jar, while Cat Noir thanks her.
In the play, the son then met a girl like him, which is narrated while both Félix and Kagami take off their masks, the two fell in love, exactly like the curious princess and the tailor, both of the couples just wanted to be free and love each other, but the tailor is trying to stop them, to which they could use someone's help: the help of Ladybug, the only one able to face the tailor, and the only one who can fix things. Marinette realizes they are talking about her, and stands up. The play ends as Marinette turns on the light, still hearing narration in her head, telling her she knows how the son and girl feel, not being able to be with the one you love, having to fight to save the one you love, having to lie all the time, never been able to say who you are. As this last line is said, Marinette unrolls a curtain to see a statue of her alter ego, Ladybug, startling her enough to wake up on the floor, in the exact position she started the play in, revealing that whole sequence to be a dream. She sees a single white feather flying past her and out the window, implying Argos must have released Once Upon a Time from existence. She unrolls the curtain again and just sees a poster of the Ladybug and Cat Noir movie. She closes the curtain, with a determined expression, and looks out the window, accepting to help them, as the feather flies out.
Argos returns to the balcony of Kagami's London room with her, asking his lover if Marinette will have the courage to face Gabriel. Kagami says nothing will stop her. They share another kiss before they part ways. Cat Noir arrives at Marinette's balcony, deciding it's time to tell her his identity. Just as he's about to open her hatch, he has flashbacks of the nightmare, and detransforms in pain. Plagg asks Adrien what happened, and he explains that since Ladybug never performed a Miraculous Ladybug, his nightmare is still there. One floor below, Tikki is sad about the fairytale she and Marinette witnessed, while Marinette says it was not a fairytale, and that the story was not over. She looks at a message from Alya, showing her and Cat Noir with the akuma in the jar, Marinette concludes Cat Noir must have had a busy battle of the night, before transforming into Ladybug. Still thinking about the nightmare, Adrien tells Plagg that he can't tell Marinette that he's Cat Noir, and he can't disobey his father either, meaning he can't stay in Paris. He transforms back into Cat Noir, then Astrocat and flies away. Seconds later, Ladybug comes out of Marinette's room and goes to the roof of the train station to find the megakuma in the jar, as stated in Cat Noir's voicemail. Ladybug purifies the akuma and sets it free. Cat Noir asks over the voicemail if the butterfly was freed, and comments how they're a good team, even if he's not there. They do an imaginary pound it, just before the end card shows.
In the post-end card scene, Kagami and Adrien are put into white prison rooms, with minimal entertainment, with the intent of keeping and preventing them from escaping. Gabriel tells Tomoe that their children will not escape them again. Tomoe is happy with this, due to it meaning they can launch Operation Perfect-Alliance. Gabriel agrees, then hangs up on the call. He comments that Ladybug and Cat Noir's adventures will be put to an end soon.

Trivia[]
- Internationally, this episode first premiered in Canada on Télé Québec.
- This is the seventh season 5 episode that is not named after the concept of a Miraculous.
- The concept is applied in the episode, showing how people put on a show for others:
- Marinette tried to pretend everything was fine in front of her friends to not spoil the end of the year party with her sadness over Adrien's departure.
- Félix disguised himself as Adrien to lure Marinette to Collège Françoise Dupont's art room.
- Félix and Kagami used the power of their sentimonster, Once Upon a Time, to put on a play about Félix's life (and by extention Adrien's) to tell Marinette why he betrayed Ladybug and why he and Kagami need her help.
- The concept is also applied through the powers/nature of some characters:
- Gabriel akumatized himself into Nightormentor, a villain with the ability to manifest one's nightmares.
- Argos gives life to his and Kagami's thirst for truth to create Once Upon a Time, a sentimonster capable of projecting scenarios and special effects for a play.
- The revelation of Adrien and Félix's nature as sentimonsters shows how the emotions accompanying his, and possibly Adrien's, creation are reflected in their personalities.
- Adrien is the representation of his parents' love for each other, a feeling that defined his kind nature.
- Félix is the representation of the jealousy of his father towards Gabriel and Emilie, an emotion that, combined with his father's mistreatment, defined his cold nature, inability to properly interact with his peers and need to succeed at everything.
- The concept of representation was applied in other episodes:
- In "Despair Bear", when Chloé tried to put on a show of being nice to everyone else.
- In "Miracle Queen" and "Protection", despite being happy for the other, Kagami nor Marinette couldn't contain their sadness over losing Adrien's love.
- From "Multiplication", Gabriel and Tomoe have begun using holographs of Adrien and Kagami to convince the public their children are a couple.
- Since her debut in "Volpina", Lila constantly put on a show with her lies fooling believing her to be someone she isn't.
- Representation also means acting or speaking on the behalf of someone which is shown in a other episodes:
- In "Gamer", where Max and Marinette represented their school for the gaming tournament.
- In "Darkblade", Chloe and Sabrina represented their class grade then the role was passed onto Marinette and Alya.
- In "Hack-San", where Scarabella represented as Ladybug's replacement for the weekend.
- In "Ephemeral", where Adrien represented as his father's replacement for the celebration of the 100th collection of his father's brand.
- Ladybug and Cat Noir representing Paris' hope and light.
- A person's actions are also used to represent something:
- Like Ladybug in Season 4, where her actions of pushing Cat Noir away and Shadow Moth's obsession represented her fear of Cat Noir being akumatized and being held responsible for it, like in "Cat Blanc".
- And the fear she had for all her allies despite trusting them with the jewels and their powers, her getting them back after each mission shows her distrust in Monarch, but it came out of her care and love for others as she refused to let anymore of her allies get used anymore than they already have.
- Gabriel's actions in trying to reunite his family represents his confidence, independence, dedication and passion but also his obsession, selfishness, desperation, lack of trust towards others and fear of the truth.
- Adrien's and Félix's hesitant actions were the same as it represented their fear of being hurt again or hurting others.
- Monarch remade the Miraculouses in "Multiplication" so only he, the akumatized, and the Miraculized can use them, therefore remaking their magic represents his selfishness, fear and greed.
- The kwamis are the physical representation or embodiments of all the abstract concepts that came into the universe.
- At first, Ladybug seeing her partner in white represented her fear but as of "Miraculous Paris" and "Jubilation", seeing Cat Noir in white represented freedom and love.
- Like Ladybug in Season 4, where her actions of pushing Cat Noir away and Shadow Moth's obsession represented her fear of Cat Noir being akumatized and being held responsible for it, like in "Cat Blanc".
- Representation can also be found in various objects as well:
- How the Miraculouses were made to represent the greater good, but when used for evil purposes, then they represent danger and fear.
- In addition to the abstract concepts and the Kwamis they represent.
- The state of the Chinese Miracle Box by the end of Season 4 represented fear and danger, but the end of Season 5 represented trust, freedom and understanding.
- How the Miraculouses were made to represent the greater good, but when used for evil purposes, then they represent danger and fear.
- In the terms of people, they can represent personality foils for someone else.
- In "Miraculous Shanghai", both Cash and Hawk Moth acted as personality foils for Fei in the terms of if she was consumed by revenge and anger over the past she could've ended up like them spending the rest of her live in prison or dying alone in vengeance.
- Shadybug is considered the villainous representation of Marinette in the Quantic Universe, serving as what would happened if she didn't stand up to Chloé Bourgeois in "Derision" and prior to origins, then Marinette would have become rageful and bitter.
- Claw Noir is considered the villainous representation of Adrien in the Quantic Universe, serving as what would happened if he went down the same path as his father, then Adrien and Gabriel would have team up and work together as supervillains, like father and son to bring back Emilie.
- Betterfly is considered the heroic representation of Gabriel in the Quantic Universe, serving as what would happened if he went down the same path as his son, then Gabriel and Adrien would have team up and work together as superheroes, like father and son, using their powers to help others while honoring Emilie, possibly joining the French Miraculous superhero team.
- Felix represents what could've happened to Adrien, if Gabriel was fuelled by resentment as Colt did about what was happening to him and Emilie.
- Gabriel represents what would've happened to Colt if he wasn't sick by using the broken Peacock Miraculous and if he let his jealously and fear of being outdo consume him.
- However both father's actions represented the jealously and anger they had towards their sons at being happy the one thing they wouldn't or couldn't find after their tradegies.
- The concept is applied in the episode, showing how people put on a show for others:
- This episode begins directly after the events of "Revolution". This is the second non-special episode to do so.
- "Collusion", "Revolution", and "Representation" join "Origins", "Volpina" and "The Collector", "Queen's Battle", "Heroes' Day", "The Battle of the Miraculous", "Truth" and "Lies", "Shadow Moth's Final Attack", "Evolution" along with "Multiplication" and "Destruction", and "The Kwamis' Choice" as episodes that take place during the same day.
- During the British TV news broadcast at the beginning of the episode, the presenter says "God Save the Queen", which is the name of the British anthem and an expression of British patriotism and hope for the long life of the reigning monarch.
- The name of the British news network, BBD, is a parody of the BBC.
- With the passing of Elizabeth and having her son Charles III as the new king of England, other languages have dubbed the news anchor's line as "God Save the King".
- Miss Bustier is running for mayor of Paris. Which was revealed in "Revolution". Armand D'Argencourt is also running for the second time after "Darkblade"
- This is the second time Armand is seen running for mayor following "Darkblade", though the presenter's comments reveal he campaigned for this position repeatedly in the past.
- Nathalie is shown suffering further effects of using the damaged Peacock Miraculous. She has once again become bedridden, the red highlights in her hair have turned gray and she has visible bags under her eyes.
- As of "Re-creation", this is the last akuma battle where Gabriel is Monarch.
- This is the third time Gabriel (directly) akumatized himself, following "The Collector" and "Dearest Family".
- However, this time, he becomes Nightormentor, his second akumatized form and a neon night, more powerful version of Collector.
- Also, Nightormentor is, chronologically, the final akumatized villain of Season 5.
- This is the eleventh time Marinette is a minor character in the permanent timeline following "Pretension", "Intuition", "Kuro Neko", "Ephemeral", "Rocketear", "Hack-San", "Sentibubbler", "Guiltrip", "Gabriel Agreste" and "Lies".
- If the webisodes are counted, this would be the fifteenth.
- It's revealed that Kagami discovered Marinette's identity as Ladybug after eavesdropping on her conversation with Alya in "Perfection".
- This makes Kagami the fourth person to know Ladybug's true identity, excluding Wang Fu due to his amnesia. Alya finds out in "Gang of Secrets", Su-Han in "Furious Fu" and Luka in "Wishmaker".
- Kagami is the fourth member of the French Miraculous superhero team (and the third chronologically) to know Ladybug's civilian identity.
- After it was clear they would need Ladybug's help, Kagami told Félix about it as well.
- Besides knowing about Ladybug's true identity, Kagami also knows that Gabriel is Monarch through Félix.
- Considering Kagami knew who Ladybug is and she was akumatized in "Protection" and "Perfection", it is unknown why Kagami didn't take her Miraculous when she was Marinette or informed Monarch of her discovery.
- Kagami mentioned to Félix that she didn't believe it at first and hadn't come to complete terms but later made sense. It is likely she believed the truth after the events of the aforementioned episodes.
- Furthermore, in both episodes, Monarch never told her to take the heroes' miraculouses, and in "Ladybug" and "Ephemeral", Marinette and Adrien didn't start taking of their miraculouses until they were explicitly told to by Scarlet Moth/Shadow Moth.
- The mysteries surrounding the Agreste and Graham de Vanily families are uncovered:
- Emilie and Amelie are the only children of two aristocrats of the British nobility, though they were originally expecting a boy, with the former being the older twin and the one their parents have entrusted with their legacy, including the Graham de Vanily Twin Rings.
- Growing up, Emilie was bold, adventurous, and escaped the nobility life whenever she had the chance to, worrying her parents and made them wonder if they were right to entrust her with their legacy. Amelie was docile, obedient, and stayed indoors, doing whatever she could to please her parents.
- Emilie went to study abroad, possibly to Paris, where she met, fell in love with and married Gabriel Agreste. Meanwhile, to satisfy her parents' will, Amelie married Colt Fathom.
- Amelie may be implied to have also been abused by her husband, due to the fact that the narrating say that "if he became a fond of anyone who displeases his father", and it shows an arm of a stuffed bunny being ripped and in "Gabriel Agreste", Amelie also wore a bunny mask in the party.
- Both sisters had trouble getting pregnant, much to their despair. However, after finding the Peacock Miraculous, Emile used its power to get pregnant.
- This confirms the theory that Adrien is a Sentimonster.
- In order to placate his wife's sadness over her sister's inability to get pregnant, Gabriel strikes a deal with Colt, allowing him to use the power of the Peacock Miraculous to make Amelie pregnant as well, in exchange for the services of one of the latter's bodyguards to protect the former's son.
- Colt used the Peacock Miraculous to get Amelie pregnant, giving life to his jealousy that became Félix. As Félix grew up, his father would control him heavily and never show him any love, especially after realizing that his creation had led him to start losing his life force. After Colt died, Félix got hold of his amokized object and, in this way, gained control over his own existence.
- This confirms that all the episodes from season 1 to season 4 are either named after akumatized villains (or group of akumatized villains), sentimonsters, or Miraculous holders.
- That also confirms that Félix is younger than Adrien.
- Both Emilie and Colt die due to have used the Peacock Miraculous to bring their respective sons to life.
- Félix betrayed Ladybug so he could trade all the other Miraculous for the one thing that could end his own existence: the Peacock Miraculous.
- Through Kagami and Félix's play, Marinette learns of the latter's reason to betray her and (only partially) that Gabriel Agreste is Monarch.
- This is the first time when Cat Noir deals with an akumatized villain entirely on his own without a Ladybug Miraculous holder's assistance.
- In "Weredad", Cat Noir was dealing with an akumatized villain without Ladybug, though he was unaware that she was helping him find and break the titular villain's akumatized object without being able to transform into Ladybug.
- In "Hack-San", Cat Noir was dealing with an akumatized villain without Ladybug, although a new Ladybug Miraculous Holder, Scarabella assisted him.
- The people that are turned to stone statues and the damaged moon in Cat Noir's nightmare is similar to the destruction in "Cat Blanc". Anticat (Cat Noir in his nightmare) somewhat looks similar to Cat Blanc having blue eyes and a white suit.
- At one point, Cat Noir is seen angrily fighting Nightormentor, this parallels him fighting Darker Owl in "Jubilation", Dark Humor in "Derision", and Ladybug angrily fighting Argos in "Emotion".
- This fight is also similar to how Cat Noir was fighting to distract Gold Record in "Migration".
- Cat Noir and Nightormentor also fight in Marinette's room, marking the second time Gabriel (this time as Nightormentor) is seen in Marinette's room, following as Monarch in "Destruction".
- Cat Noir calls Gabriel a "coward" while he was akumatized into Nightormentor for chasing after his son and forcing him to respect his orders as a father using his powers instead of facing him face to face in his hero alter ego.
- He seeing him as a "coward" is the same thing he as Rabbit Noir saw him like that in "Evolution" as Monarch for the same reasons he wants to fight people outside his power level instead of fighting people with the same power level that he, Cat Noir seems to see both Gabriel and Monarch as cowards (although it is unknown to him that they are both the same person).
- It is also shown in part of Adrien's origin story that during Adrien's creation on account of the Peacock Miraculous that unlike Colt who used the Peacock Miraculous to make Ameile pregnant, Gabriel let Emile use the gem alone to get pregnant, he didn't, but thought of the consequences of letting his wife wear the gem alone even though he knew the danger it could pose if it was damaged, as it was revealed in "Evolution" that he was aware that the gem was somehow damaged.
- Which is ironic since Gabriel always took advantage of his akumatized victims to fight and steal the Miraculouses for himself, with him always making deals in the end only he would end up benefiting.
- This is the twentieth episode that features a post-credit scene, following "Miracle Queen", "Gabriel Agreste", "Optigami", "Sentibubbler", "Dearest Family", "Multiplication", "Jubilation", "Illusion", "Transmission", "Perfection", "Derision", "Intuition", "Protection", "Emotion", "Pretension", "Revelation", "Confrontation", "Collusion", and "Revolution".
- This is the second time when an akumatized villain has nightmare related superpowers following Sandboy.
- This is also the third time a villain's akumatized object is a pen after Evillustrator and Troublemaker.
- Marinette is the fourth character to be seen crying with her makeup smeared, following Fei in "Miraculous Shanghai" and Nathalie in "Passion" and Adrien in "Revolution".
- This is the third episode when Lucky Charm isn't used, after "Catalyst" and "Risk".
- Also the eighth time when the Miraculous Ladybug superpower wasn't used following "Ladybug and Cat Noir", "Catalyst", "Destruction", "Illusion", "Intuition", "Emotion", and "Revolution".
- It is revealed by Adrien that the magical effects caused by an akumatized villain are cast on a person, they will remain until they are restored by the Miraculous Ladybug.
- This is the eighteenth time where the Magical Charms don't appear since their introduction following "Sentibubbler", "Hack-San", "Ephemeral", "Kuro Neko", "Risk", "Evolution", "Destruction", "Illusion", "Passion", "Reunion", "Transmission", "Deflagration", "Intuition", "Emotion", "Revelation", "Collusion", and "Revolution".
- This is the eighth time when the space power up is used following "Miraculous Shanghai", "Miraculous New York", "Dearest Family", "Ephemeral", "Multiplication" and "Intuition".
- However, if Hoaxer's fake revelations in "Revelation" are counted, this would be the ninth time.
- This is the sixth episode that partially takes place outside of Paris, after "Miraculous Shanghai", "Startrain", "Miraculous New York", "Multiplication" and "Emotion".
- The scene where Monarch detransforms is similar to the one as Hawk Moth in "The Collector" and Monarch (Pre-Rings) in "Multiplication".
- This is the sixth time Marinette's hair is seen in a bun following "Animaestro", "Kwamibuster", "Derision", "Emotion" and "Revolution".
- However, she is seen with the same hairstyle as in "Revolution" due to the events of both episodes taking place on the same day.
- This is the third time Marinette is seen wearing a dress following "Emotion" and "Revolution".
- However, she is seen wearing the same dress as in "Revolution" due to the events of both episodes taking place on the same day.
- The drawing on the paper that Marinette saw of her and Adrien looking at each other was most likely done by Kagami, due to her being revealed to be good at artistic skills as shown in "Lies" and "Determination".
- Or the drawing belongs to Nathaniel, as it was shown in "Perfection".
- Through Adrien, it is revealed that sentimonsters can be affected by the powers of akumatized villains, even to the point of being transformed into someone different like a clone of Reflekta. Also as seen in "Timebreaker" and "Miraculous Shanghai", sentimonsters can be killed temporarily, but restored by the Miraculous Ladybug if their Amoks are still active somewhere.
- This is the second episode to have the majority of the setting take place at night and then daytime for the last few minutes before the endcard. The first was "Sandboy".
- Unlike "Sandboy", this episode has the first few minutes take place in the daytime because it shows the setting in London while the last minute(s) of the episode take place during sunrise in Paris' setting.
- The popular fan theory that Adrien and Félix were sentimonsters, which had been hinted at in many previous episodes, is finally confirmed in the episode.
- Argos drawing a heart for Kagami on his London apartment window is similar to Adrien drawing Marinette's face and a heart next to it on his bedroom bathroom mirror in "Passion".
- This is the first episode where Marinette/Ladybug and Adrien/Cat Noir don't share any interaction with each other in any way (physical or talking).
- At the end of the episode, Gabriel says, "It's time to put an end to the adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir", quoting the French title of the show.
- This is one of six times in season 5 that Cataclysm is used to destroy an akumatized object, the others being "Multiplication", "Jubilation", "Perfection", "Migration" and "Adoration".
- In his and Kagami's play, young Félix is seen playing with Colonel Woof-Woof from "Christmaster".
- This is the only time Ladybug's old de-evilization sequence is seen in Season 5.
- It's also the second time it's seen since she got her upgraded suit, after "Optigami".
Errors[]
- Juleka mumbles when bumping into Marinette, despite getting over it in "Confrontation" and speaking properly in all other scenes.
- In English dub, Kim's voice is unusually deep in this episode.
- When the camera spins as Monarch detransforms in his lair, all of the kwamis are absent from their cages.
- After Gabriel detransforms, Nooroo's scleras are miscolored purple.
- When Gabriel akumatizes himself, Kaalki's cage is entirely missing behind him.
- In the end card, the flower on Zoé's shirt is missing.
- When Cat Noir attacks Nightormentor in one scene, his eye were circle instead of him having cat eyes.
- When Monarch creates his Megakuma, he creates it on his left hand and it leaves from his left hand, but in the next shot, we see it flying above his right hand.
- When Cat Noir transforms into Astrocat to return to London, he transforms without eating a purple slice of cheese.
- However, it is possible that, in the very short time he was off-screen, he ate a purple slice of cheese.
- When Monarch hits Juleka and awakens her nightmare, Rose is missing next to her for a second. She re-appears in the next shot.
- When Monarch akumatizes himself, it is day, but it should have been night instead due to the episode taking place on the night of the end-of-year party.
- When Nightormentor asks the students where his son (Adrien) was, they say they saw him off as he boarded the plane to London. However, in the last episode, it was only Marinette who was there.
- And it was only Marinette who Adrien told that he was moving, but everyone seemed to know about it as they were trying to cheer her up.
- The only way that could have been possible was that she told her everyone in her class through a mass text on her phone as she was heading back to the party.
- It could be possible that the class saw Adrien leave, or Marinette ride off on her mini-scooter.
- The only way that could have been possible was that she told her everyone in her class through a mass text on her phone as she was heading back to the party.
- And it was only Marinette who Adrien told that he was moving, but everyone seemed to know about it as they were trying to cheer her up.
- There is massive time-stretching and inconsistency in this episode: Adrien and Kagami are already in London and there are news reports about it, yet he barely left Marinette and it was already dark, then it's daytime again in the London scene, and Adrien, Felix and Kagami still get back to Paris before Marinette even gets to the party she was already heading to.
- Marinette learns about Félix and Adrien's story, and explicitly about the Miraculous' being swapped with the "tailor". Yet completely inexplicably, she continues not knowing who Monarch is until he detransforms in front of her eyes.
- When Marinette explains to Tikki the meaning of the "tale", her dress' hanger changes direction when she puts it in front of her mirror.
- Gabriel takes out the pen from the left side of his jacket, despite it being kept on the right side in "Collusion".
- When the feather flies out and Marinette leans on the window, the classroom seems to have changed its location, being on the building's front side, not the right one.
