“ | In my universe, ordinary people don't even know about the Miraculous. It's a secret. They all belong to The Supreme who uses them only to perpetuate his own power. | ” |
—Betterfly, "Miraculous Paris" |
The Re-Verse[1][2][3][4] is the name of a different reality from the Quantic Universe where the story of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir takes place.
Summary[]
In this universe, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste are supervillains: Shadybug and Claw Noir (now known as superheroes Ladybug and Paw Noir for their redemption), while Gabriel Agreste is a superhero: Betterfly.
History[]
At some point, a being known as The Supreme becomes the ruler of the world in this universe. He controls all the Miraculouses, which are a complete secret from the public and entrusts them to powerful individuals, all of whom have sworn loyalty to him. It's implied that the Supreme had used the Absolute Power of the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses to enslave the world, while also sealing it to prevent another besides him from using it.
Gabriel Agreste was one of the Supreme's followers, but he stole two of the Miraculous to make his wish come true, but he misused them and as a result, he hurt the ones he loves. To redeem himself, he became the superhero Betterfly, he led a resistance movement against the Supreme and his followers. Between his allies in the resistance are two teenagers, Alya Césaire and Nino Lahiffe, and also an AI called Maxkov.
To counter Betterfly's resistance, the Supreme entrusted the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous to two vulnerable teenagers, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, respectively, so they could go and retrieve the Butterfly Miraculous (and possibly the Peacock Miraculous as well). Marinette Dupain-Cheng was a girl, the daughter of bakers, who was constantly tormented by Chloé Bourgeois. The Supreme gave her the Ladybug Miraculous, promising her that no one else would be able to hurt her. She then became Shadybug. Adrien Agreste is the son of the famous fashion designer Gabriel Agreste, the man who is also Betterfly, and who had recently lost his mother, with the Supreme preying on his grief to sway him to his side. He then became Claw Noir.
When giving the two teenagers those Miraculouses, he didn't tell them about the Absolute Power their Miraculous could achieve together or about the dangers of using their Miraculous for evil while still young. Because of this, Shadybug and Claw Noir's bodies started to deteriorate, with them getting marks similar to the ones caused by Cataclysm, leading them to hide them with either pieces of clothes or make-up. To keep them on their mission to retrieve the Butterfly Miraculous from Betterfly, the Supreme promised to spare them from their fate if they completed the mission.
Cornering Betterfly on his lair, the superhero decided to turn to outside help, tracking a universe where the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses are used for good and kamikotizing Alya Césaire into Ubiquity to reach it. Even if he managed to cross over to that universe, so did Shadybug and Claw Noir. However, when both of them return to their universe, Shadybug and Claw Noir become allies of Betterfly, adopting new identities as Ladybug and Paw Noir respectively, and joining him in the fight against the Supreme.
Geography[]
Just like the Quantic Universe, Paris, France is the primary location seen in the Re-Verse. The Dupain-Cheng bakery, the Agreste mansion, and the Gabriel brand all exist in this universe.

Trivia[]
- During production, the crew named the universe "Re-Verse" to distinguish itself from the Quantic Universe.[1][2]
- "Re-Verse" became this universe's official moniker when Playmate Toys released dolls based on three of its inhabitants.[3]
- The Playmate Toys doll line nicknamed the inhabitants with a "Re" prefix to distinguish them from their Quantic Universe counterparts. For example, Alya is nicknamed "Re-Alya".
- According to Thomas Astruc, the universe will be seen again in the future.[5]
- This universe is actually one of the billions of other parallel universes that exist alongside the Quantic Universe, and the kwamis exist in all of these universes simultaneously.
- The Kwamis usually don't bother bringing this up with their holders because there isn't enough time in the human lifespan to explain even the tiniest bit about it, and instead choose to focus on the time they have together.
- This universe mirrors the Quantic Universe, both in reverse and in similarity, as while there are some opposing traits, those differences mirror the ones of the Quantic Universe.
- In the Re-Verse, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Adrien Agreste, and Gabriel Agreste are still the holders of the Ladybug, Cat, and Butterfly Miraculouses respectively. However, while the former two began as supervillains (as opposed to their counterparts who begin as heroes), the latter is a superhero (opposing his counterpart who is a villain).
- Both Marinettes of the two universes were bullied and tormented by Chloé Bourgeois. However, while the Quantic Universe's Marinette was able to stand up to her (thanks to both Alya and the fact she became Ladybug), the Re-Verse's Marinette was unable to make friends to help her deal with Chloé's intense bullying, eventually leading her to become the supervillain Shadybug.
- Both Adriens of the two universes lost their mother. However, while the Quantic Universe's Adrien was able to move on and find other sources of love to fill the void, the Re-Verse's Adrien held on to that loss and, because of it, was unable to make any friends and resented his father for being able to move on. This made him an easy target to the Supreme who manipulated him to become Claw Noir.
- Both Gabriels are successful fashion designers and both lost their wives. However, while the Quantic Universe's Gabriel was unable to move on and became a supervillain to bring her back, the Re-Verse's Gabriel was able to move on and became a superhero to fight the Supreme.
- Both Gabriels were able to steal Miraculouses from the ones that were guarding them in their respective universe. The Quantic Universe's Gabriel stole all the Miraculouses Ladybug was guarding (except for hers, Cat Noir's, and Argos'), planning to use them to get the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses. Meanwhile, the Re-Verse's Gabriel stole two Miraculous (the Butterfly and the Peacock) from the Supreme, hoping to use them to achieve his dream, but eventually using the Butterfly one to fight the Supreme.
- Just like in the Quantic Universe, there's a resistance fighting against the evil of its respective universe. In both of them, Alya Césaire and Nino Lahiffe are members.
- Based on Betterfly's comment that "no one believes in heroes", he was the only hero to exist in the Re-Verse before Ladybug and Paw Noir switched sides. Everyone lost hope and "is afraid of the Supreme", believing that no one can stop him since he rules the world. This would imply that the United Heroez didn't exist in this reality.
- It's unknown if the Prodigious exist in this reality. In the Quantic Universe, it was created as a prototype for the Miraculouses before it was later abandoned.[6] Whether or not the Supreme has his hands on the Prodigious, it's likely Ladydragon doesn’t exist in this reality.
