—Raúl to Ivan Bruel | ||
Raúl Bruel is a minor antagonist in Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. He is the father of Ivan Bruel, a security guard at the Louvre, and a former criminal known as El Toro.
In "El Toro De Piedra", after his son refused to commit a heist at the Louvre, Raúl was akumatized by Chrysalis into El Toro de Piedra, a bull-themed supervillain who had the power of transforming everyone into stone bulls.
Appearance[]
Physical Appearance[]
Raúl is a light skinned middle-aged Spaniard with a muscular build. He has short medium-brown hair combed back, with two tufts of hair that resemble the horns of a bull, a full beard, and blue eyes. He also has numerous scars all over his body and a lot of hair on his chest.
Civilian Attire[]
Raúl wears a black T-shirt with a gold bull symbol on the front, along with camo green pants and black boots with lighter soles. He also has black bracelets with spikes on each wrist and a silver earring on his right ear.
As El Toro de Piedra[]
El Toro de Piedra's appearance turned jet black and stone-like, decorated with gold veins. However, his hairstyle appeared sharper, solid, and straighter, his bangs pulled back. At the back was a thin, long ponytail held by a gold clip. His eyes glew a very pale blue, and he had long, charcoal gray horns with gold veins and ombre near the tip, held by gold pieces.
He wore a black matador coat with ripped sleeves, gold trim, swirly accents, jagged collar, and black high-waisted trousers matching the coat's details, mainly being made of angular lines connecting to semicircles with points down to the legs. Suspended from four black leather straps with gold studs was a gold zloty ornament in the shape of an inverted bull's nose ring on his chest. His bracelets were retained, but with gold spikes and trim, accenting the large shoulder pads. He carried a three-piece black whip.

Ivan Bruel/Minotaurox[]
In "El Toro De Piedra", Raúl treats his son harshly and wants him to listen to him when he talks about his plan to kidnap the Mona Lisa. His plans were to make his son his accomplice and successor. This makes it clear that because of his criminal life, Raúl was not involved in the upbringing of his son. Ivan, on the other hand, is very afraid that he will become the same, and being a villain is in his blood. When he resigns and leaves his father a letter of explanation, he becomes enraged. He recognizes his son as a weakling because he is sensitive and has a kind heart.
His conversation with Minotaurox suggests that Raúl actually treated his son the way his father treated him, and projected his own weakness onto Ivan – the inability to rebel. The superhero convinces him that the fact that Ivan challenged Raúl is paradoxically evidence of his strength and courage. He forces him to rethink his behavior, and the man sees his mistake and promises to try to become a better father.

History[]
Before season 1[]
Raul is a supervillain named El Toro, who apparently was involved in the theft of valuables, but was caught and exiled to prison.
Season 6[]
In the opening stinger of "El Toro De Piedra", Raúl talks to his son, Ivan, at the police station about a plot to steal the Mona Lisa from the Louvre after it is returned after restoration. Ivan must put on an old El Toro costume and distract attention so that Raúl can steal the painting while everyone's attention is distracted. When Raúl has to return to his cell because his visit time has expired, he indicates the time when he will need to come and leaves the meeting with his son.
On the same day, Raúl waits in the Louvre for his accomplice, dressed as a security guard. The museum staff, led by Alim Kubdel, came at the time previously mentioned by Raul to replace the painting during the renovation. He is looking forward to his son's arrival. The painting is taken out with Kubdel's team, and Raul calls Ivan, but to no avail. Enraged, the man goes to the toilet to the planned place of delivery of the stolen painting. Instead of a bag, he finds only a letter addressed to him. Ivan writes that he is not like his father and does not want to be a villain anymore, and that he is disappointed with his father for not giving him the opportunity to rehabilitate himself. This is the last time he asks his father to think about his choice and just be a good example to him.
Raúl gets angry and aims to tear up the letter, but the ultrakuma possesses him and Chrysalis enters his mind, touching and apologizing for the intrusion. He gets scared and angry, pushing the silhouette away, but the holder of Butterfly Miraculous changes her approach and begins to humiliate him, accusing him of how good his son is, and stating that it was he who failed in parenting. Chrysalis warns about the Miraculouses. They make a deal, after which Raúl turns into the villain El Toro de Piedra. He turns the letter into a whip, with which he turns people into obedient bulls after he leaves the wall in the Louvre. Along the way, he turns more and more civilians into bulls.
El Toro de Piedra violently attacks his son, who is sitting on the banks of the Seine, unsuccessfully. Frightened, Ivan runs away from the bull company, but stops and asks if he has read his letter. Surprised, Raul objects that yes, and declares that Ivan's grandmother is to blame for everything. He calls his son a calf, shooting a beam of energy into the ground and aiming at his son, but he escapes into the sewers.
In the evening of the same day, El Toro de Piedra continues to attack Paris. He notices Cat Noir and shoots him with a whip, causing a crash and knocking him into the street. He almost hits him, but his shot is blocked by the Minotaurox, who uses his superpower to absorb the attack. Ladybug joins the battle, and the three heroes attack the villain together. Minotaurox catches the bull, which El Toro de Piedra grabs by the horns, further blocking the attacks. Ladybug and Cat Noir knock him down, after which Minotaurox hits the sheet with a mallet and Raúl transforms back.
Minotaurox sends a letter from himself to Raúl, who objects that his son is weak and useless, to which his son, who is under the mask, objects that putting himself in his father's place means being stronger than him. Officer Roger plans to arrest him, to which the heroes say that he is just a victim of the ultrakuma and does not deserve to be punished. Minataurox tells Raúl be a good father, and Raul is ashamed to understand.

Trivia[]
- His akumatized form as El Toro de Piedra makes allusion to the running of the bulls (also known as Encierro), an event part of Spanish tradition where a small group of bulls are let loose on sectioned-off streets in a town, with the most famous one being that on the Spanish city of Pamplona.
- The fact El Toro de Piedra could turn people into bulls made of stone makes reference to his son's akumatized form, Stoneheart.
- He has some similarities with El Macho, from Despicable Me 2:
- Both are Spanish-speakers, very robust, as well they have a moustache.
- Both had sons, but opposite personalities: Antonio is arrogant and charming, while Ivan is kind but intimidating.
- Both are talented criminals and seek to be invincible, however, unlike El Macho, Raúl was able to redeem himself.
- Raúl's relationship with Ivan mirrors the relationship between Big Daddy and Johnny from the movie Sing!:
- Both Raúl and Big Daddy were criminals who wanted their children to follow on their footsteps.
- Both Ivan and Johnny didn't want to become like their fathers and ended up bailing on their respective heists.
- Due to their respective sons bailing on them, both Raúl and Big Daddy ended up suffering the consequences, with the former being akumatized, while the latter was arrested.
- This had caused both fathers to get disappointed with their respective sons.
- Both parents ended up making amends in some way with their respective sons.
- It is unknown if Raúl received a magical charm after he was de-akumatized.
- He's the first known akumatized villain who actually managed to scare Chrysalis during their akumatization, to the point that she briefly lost her blended voices and for a moment spoke with her real voice.
