“ | At your service, my queen! | ” |
—Pollen, "Malediktator" |
Pollen[9] is a supporting character of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. She is the kwami of Action[10] who is connected to the Bee Miraculous.[11] With her power, Pollen's wearer can use the hair comb to transform into a bee-themed superhero.
Pollen and her Miraculous are currently owned by Zoé Lee, who uses it to transform into the superheroine Vesperia.
Appearance[]
Pollen is a yellow Kwami that is 10 centimeters (or 4 inches) tall.[5] Three curved stripes wrap around her head, and each stripe grows smaller as it ascends up her forehead. Her small stinger, visible at the back, is also striped. Her antennae, arms, and feet are black, while her eyes are golden with blue sclerae. She has a row of white upper teeth, and she has black eyelashes. A small light yellow tuft is located below her head and around her neck, with a small area reaching onto her stomach.
- For more of Pollen's designs, see Pollen/Designs.
Personality[]
Pollen appears to have a formal and polite personality, greeting Tikki and Plagg as the "noble kwamis of Creation and Destruction" as shown in "Sandboy".
As shown in "Style Queen", "Queen Wasp", and "Malediktator", she is very submissive, obedient, and respectful towards her owner, as she calls Chloé "My Queen" and promptly transforms her into Queen Bee, despite it meaning everyone getting to know the latter's identity.
Despite being submissive and obedient, Pollen isn't afraid to speak up, as she tried to convince Chloé not to use her powers for evil in "Heart Hunter". Like Tikki, she tries to be very responsible with her powers and encourages her wielders to do the same. It's also implied that she is very understanding, because despite not being able to talk to Chloé, she likely would've agreed with Ladybug's reasoning, not wanting to see her wielder get hurt or have her powers used for evil - showing her caring and considerate side. Similar to her kwami friend, Ziggy, she is also sensitive when her feelings are hurt.
Like her fellow kwamis, Pollen has gotten used to moving from one owner to the next as she's fine working with Zoé despite knowing her "New Queen" is related to her former queen.
Abilities[]
Pollen is able to fly, levitate, move through solid objects, and carry objects larger and/or heavier than herself.
As a kwami, Pollen gives the wearer the power of action (the power to immobilize an opponent) and transforms them into a bee-themed superhero by entering the Bee Miraculous. Whenever an underage wearer uses Venom, Pollen begins losing power and eventually detransforms in about five minutes. Pollen then has to recharge by eating.
In "Optigami" Pollen has the ability to merge with Tikki to help Marinette stop Style Queen.
Relationships[]
Chloé Bourgeois/Queen Bee[]
Not much is known about Pollen's relationship with Chloé, but as far as being seen, she has befriended Chloé quickly and is very respectful with her, calling her "My Queen". She also doesn't object when Chloé transforms in front of a crowd of people. After Ladybug trusted Chloé with the Bee Miraculous in "Malediktator", Pollen and Chloé continued working together as Queen Bee in "Catalyst", "Mayura", and a final time in "Miraculer".
In "Heart Hunter", however, Pollen tries to convince Chloé to not side with Hawk Moth or to use the Bee Miraculous for evil, but Chloé wouldn't hear Pollen out and ordered her not to speak unless spoken to, which hurt her feelings. After Chloé's defeat in "Miracle Queen", Pollen sees her run off, saddened, and heartbroken by her wielder's betrayal. Ever since then it's unknown if Pollen has gotten over her former owner's betrayal.
However, it wouldn't be the last time she heard from Chloé. In "Revolution", after she'd become mayor of Paris, Chloé made a deal with Monarch who akumatized her and transferred five of the Miraculous powers to her robots, including Pollen's power of Action. This made Chloé able to paralyze people through the robots. And it's very likely that Pollen was very disappointed in the bad path Chloe has chosen to take.
Tikki and Plagg[]
Just like with the other kwamis, Pollen seems to be good friends with Tikki and Plagg, formally greeting them as the "noble kwamis of creation and destruction" when they arrive inside the Miracle Box.
She was willing to help Marinette rescue Tikki and Plagg from Kwamibuster.
As of "Deflagration", Pollen and the rest of her siblings are shocked that Monarch had discovered the identities of Tikki's and Plagg's new owners. Aware of what he was going to do, she was saddened about being apart of his plan to catch them as well as paralyzing them with their powers. But being aware that his plan didn't work she likely felt great happiness that the "noble kwamis of creation and destruction" are free.
Zoé Lee/Vesperia[]
Not much is known about Pollen's relationship with Zoé, though so far, she seems to be very respectful of her, despite the fact she is the half-sister of her former owner, even addressing her as "My Queen" and assisting Zoé in her transformation without question.
As of "Deflagration", Pollen discovered through Monarch that Zoé became Plagg's new owner under the holder name Kitty Noire and upon being forced into Monarch's new plan to catch Tikki and Plagg, she felt great sadness about paralyzing her former queen.
Following Monarch's defeat in "Re-creation", Pollen's Miraculous is given to Zoé permanently and she and Zoé are thrilled to be reunited with one another.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug/Multimouse/Ladybee[]
In "Kwamibuster", Pollen helps Marinette in her plan to save Tikki and Plagg from Kwamibusters vacuum and cheers for her once when their plan is a success. In "Miracle Queen", Pollen and her fellow kwami siblings accept Marinette as their new guardian and move in with her.
In "Optigami", Pollen fuses her powers with Tikki’s to help Marinette defeat Style Queen.
Months prior before the kwami's capture, Pollen and her siblings were trained by Marinette on what to do if any of them got caught by Monarch as a plan to retrieve them back. When said plan was put into action in "Destruction", Pollen and her siblings were briefly reunited with their guardian, happy that their plan had worked and that they were going home - only for their hopes to be dashed when Monarch took them away.
As of "Deflagration", Pollen and the rest of her siblings are shocked that Monarch had discovered the identities of Tikki's and Plagg's new owners. Making her aware that her guardian and Cat Noir gave up their mantles to someone else.
In Re-creation Monarch attempted to use Pollen's power to immobilize his Guardian and when the battle ended, he managed to immobilize Marinette and take away the Miraculous to make her wish, sacrificing himself in the process and returning the Bee Miraculous and all the others to Marinette, freeing Pollen. Marinette was then able to restore Pollen's Miraculous to its original form and then sent Pollen to live with Zoe permanently.
Gabriel Agreste/Monarch[]
At first Pollen did not know Hawk Moth's identity but he knew that Nooroo was obliged to serve him and like all the other Kwamis he wanted to rescue him.
His dislike of Hawk Moth likely increased when Hawk Moth twice infected his miraculous with an Akuma to akumatize its owner.
In Miraculer, upon learning the identity of Queen Bee Hawk Moth hoped that Ladybug would once again grant Chloe the Bee Miraculous with the intention of capturing Pollen but failed when Ladybug was able to snatch the Miraculous from Mayura.
In The Battle of the Miraculous Hawk Moth was able to find Master Fu and steal the Miracle Box and took the Bee Miraculous to give it to Chloe. Pollen was able to hear how he manipulated its owner to get her on his side and he did so, then he gave it to her. Chloe tried to convince her not to join him, but it didn't work, and she was forced to transform her into Queen Bee and her dislike towards Hawk Moth increased even more when he akumatized Queen Bee again, but Ladybug and Cat Noir were able to free her and Pollen again. They escaped from Hawk Moth.
However, in Strikeback, because Félix Fathom betrayed Ladybug, Gabriel was once again able to steal the Bee Miraculous along with everyone else, leaving Pollen and his companions under his service.
In "Evolution", Pollen and her fellow kwami siblings are captured by Gabriel and figure out his actions for getting the Ladybug and Cat miraculous. She then fuses her powers with Nooroo, Fluff, Trixx, Wayzz, Longg, and Barkk to help Gabriel paralyze future Bunnyx and take her miraculous.
In "Destruction", along with her siblings, Pollen was forced to reveal her guardian's location. After the battle, Gabriel reforged her miraculous into a special alliance ring for transferring her power of Action to any akumatized villain he wants.
In "Illusion", Pollen's power is used by Gabriel in an attempt to paralyze Ladybug and Cat Noir to take their miraculous.
In "Passion" Monarch loaded Pollen's power into one of the projectiles created by Safari from Genesis, allowing Safari to use Venom.
In "Deflagration", Pollen and the rest of her siblings are shocked that Monarch had discovered the identities of Tikki's and Plagg's new owners. Her power is then used by Gabriel to paralyze Alya and Zoé to take their Miraculouses.
In Intuition Monarch used pollen power to immobilize Astrocat after capturing him with Shell-ter, but because he had to repeat it so many times through Second Chance, he had to stop.
In Pretension Monarch transferred power from Pollen to Matagi Gozen.
In Revolution Monarch transfers Pollen's power to Queen Mayor's Police robots which paralyzed people who were then placed into detention.
In "The Final Day" Monarch transferred the power of Pollen, and the other caged Kamis to the Miraculized, then tried to use Venom to immobilize Bug Noir and when the battle ended. He managed to immobilize Marinette and take away the Miraculouses to make his wish, sacrificing himself in the process and giving back to Marinette the Bee Miraculous and everyone else, freeing Pollen from his control.

Trivia[]
- Pollen was first revealed by Jeremy Zag with a picture posted on his Instagram. The image was captioned: "New Kwami means new superhero!? 🤔.... hummm... Maybe! 😋👍 Miraculous Ladybug Season 2 is coming guys !!!!"[12]
- Another image of Pollen was shown during an interview between Lindalee Rose and Cristina Vee.[13]
- In "Style Queen", Ladybug says that the Bee Miraculous is the Miraculous of Subjection, although this was later retconned.
- According to Thomas Astruc, the production thought that it was too complicated, so it was changed to Action.[10]
- Pollen's concept of Action refers to the general capability of a voluntary motion, and she has the power to take that away with her special power, Venom.
- The background of the teaser images is a blurred shot of Notre-Dame Cathedral.
- Pollen's name was revealed when Thomas Astruc confirmed a fan's correct guess during a Twitter contest.[9]
- In concept art, Pollen's eyes had neither pupils nor irises, only their blue sclerae, and her sclerae were much darker.
- Although the owner of the Bee Miraculous has been akumatized twice, both times were while transformed, so Pollen herself has not been seen under the effects of an akuma.
- Astruc has stated that if the Miraculous is destroyed, the kwami survives but is no longer able to be seen or felt. Thus, while the Bee Miraculous was destroyed, Pollen survived.[14]
- She is the third kwami to have her Miraculous destroyed, preceded by Fluff and Plagg in "Timebreaker" and followed by Nooroo in "Miraculous Shanghai" and Wayzz in "Optigami".
- The way Pollen is so ready to "serve" Chloé is a reflection of how bees are devoted to their queen.
- Pollen's name and bee-like appearance is also a reflection of the symbiotic relationship bees have with flowers.
- Pollen's appearance and power has another correlation on how bees and wasps use venom in their stingers to defend themselves.
- But through Pollen's time with Chloe the emotional version of Venom was explored where Chloe was filled with so much bitterness and malice after being stripped of her power that it destroyed her from the inside out.
- Pollen is the fourth kwami to be used for evil, though briefly, following Nooroo, Duusu and Plagg (in an alternative timeline in "Cat Blanc" and "Ephemeral"). Pollen and her Miraculous were used for evil in "Miracle Queen" by Queen Bee when she was akumized into Miracle Queen, who used them to try to get back at Ladybug.
- Pollen holds the record for the kwamis with the most indirect akumatizations with 3.
- Pollen is one of two kwamis whose name is a word in the English language, the other being Fluff.
