“ | I call him "The Gorilla" because he's huge and he never speaks, just like a gorilla! | ” |
Placide I.T., commonly nicknamed the Gorilla, is a recurring character of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. He is Adrien Agreste's bodyguard and chauffeur.
In "Gorizilla", after Placide failed to get Adrien back when he snuck out to watch a movie he didn't think his father would let him watch and got harshly insulted when Gabriel left him a voicemail, he was akumatized by Hawk Moth into Gorizilla, a giant gorilla-like supervillain.[2]
In "Representation", it was revealed that he used to work for Colt Fathom, but his employment was traded to Gabriel Agreste in exchange for being lent the Peacock Miraculous to create a child for himself.
Appearance
Physical appearance
Placide is a large, tall man with black hair that has light gray sideburns on the sides of his head and dark blue eyes. Unlike the other people, he doesn't have eyebrows. His facial features is similar to a gorilla
Civilian attire
He wears a dark grayish Persian blue dress suit with a pale, light grayish blue sweater underneath. He also sports dark sapphire blue dress shoes.
As Gorizilla
Gorizilla was a giant blue gorilla with his chest being a lighter shade of blue and his face being surrounded by thick black lines. He had light gold sclera with moderate amaranth irises with two upper canines that stuck out of his mouth. He only wore dark blue, tattered pants.

Personality
Placide is a serious, grim, and stoic man who never talks or expresses any emotions. He takes his job very seriously and is quite protective of Adrien, threatening Simon Grimault when the latter just wanted to shake hands with Adrien. His suspicious nature also thrives outside of his job as he glances at Marinette from a distance because she is talking back to her purse, where Tikki is, in "Guitar Villain". He isn't afraid to stand up to what he considers dangerous to himself or others, like Simon Says and Darkblade, but he becomes fearful in particular cases when he is endangered. While not openly genial, Placide obeyed his boss Gabriel and Nathalie. He followed through on requests on others, such as delivering Marinette's Christmas gift to Adrien in "Santa Claws".
Underneath Placide's intimidating exterior, he is shown to be gentle and kind as he briefly played with action figure dolls and secretly allowed Adrien's friends into the Agreste mansion in "Party Crasher". He can also be easily moved as seen in "Reflekdoll", when he sees the girls sincerely beg him to allow Adrien to have fun with them. He also sincerely cares for Adrien to the extent that the mere sight of the boy was enough to completely banish all of the negative emotions that were about to get him akumatized, showing that he doesn't consider his devotion to protecting Adrien a merely paid job. When Marinette is forced to break up with Adrien in "Cat Blanc", he doesn't let Adrien go but seeing his supplication and tears, he allowed Adrien to go after her.
As of season 5 onwards, Placide showed himself to be very supportive and kind to Adrien for his relationship with Marinette. He was willing to do anything to make them feel happy and even tried to protect them after they were attacked by Riposte Prime. In "Revolution", Placide was very sad to see Adrien devastated that he will leave Paris and upon seeing Marinette rushing to the airplane on her scooter, Placide unbuckles Adrien and silently signals him to see his girlfriend one last time and smiled, showing his selfless side. When a disgusted and presumably jealous Gabriel furiously orders Placide and the airport technician to separate Adrien and Marinette, Placide had no choice but to comply his orders, albeit begrudgingly. When Adrien starts crying, devastated that he lost the love of his life, Placide was not above crying to see someone so sad and reluctantly buckled Adrien.
As Gorizilla, he was more aggressively relentless in finding Adrien and keeping him safe. He was more than willing to attack bystanders who got in his way and cause mayhem to find him. However, he was also careless and oblivious as he didn't realize keeping Adrien with him he was unknowingly almost getting him hurt when attacking Ladybug, and had a hard time getting her Miraculous as he got both her and Adrien in his hands.
Abilities
As a civilian
Placide is a very strong man as he can use his height and build to intimidate others if necessary. When Simon Says hypnotizes him to act like a gorilla, he is powerful enough to attack and restraint Cat Noir.
As Gorizilla
Gorizilla possessed extraordinary strength and an acute sense of smell, as well as a strong jump. Because of his enhanced senses and physical abilities, he was an excellent tracker, being able to follow Adrien just about anywhere after getting his scent from his bracelet. However, if his sense of smell was overpowered by a stronger scent, like Wayhem's bottle of Adrien: The Fragrance, he lost the ability to sniff out whoever he was trying to track.
Relationships
Adrien Agreste
As his bodyguard, Placide is very protective of Adrien, leaving his side only when forced to, like when he is chased off by spiders summoned by Santa Claws. In general, he seems to be very fond of Adrien, showing signs of genuine care towards him. In "Gigantitan", when he is about to be akumatized from his frustration with parking the limousine, the mere sight of Adrien being safe is enough to calm him down and repel the akuma. He is also willing to put himself between Adrien and dangerous threats like Simon Says and Gigantitan without hesitation, further showing his protective instincts towards the boy.
In "Protection", he is shown to support Marinette and Adrien's relationship, where he secretly helps them set a date at the Agreste mansion, and when they both are attacked Riposte Prime, he defends them both from the supervillain, allowing them to escape. In "Revolution", when he and Adrien hear Marinette calling to him on the plane, he allows Adrien to go see Marinette. A furious, disgusted, and presumably jealous Gabriel ordered Placide to separate the couple and he pulled Adrien apart from Marinette with a genuinely sorry look on his face look as the two shared their first kiss. Back on the plane, a tearful Placide is visibly sad to see Adrien lose the love of his life and has tears in his eyes.
Gabriel Agreste
Placide did his best to follow Gabriel’s orders of protecting Adrien, though in situations when Gabriel got angry at him for some reason, he can get nervous or frustrated.
Unlike Nathalie, Placide seems to be unaware of his boss' supervillain identity as Hawk Moth.
Unlike Gabriel, he supports Adrien's relationship with Marinette, and on occasion, he disobeyed Gabriel's orders to prevent Adrien and Marinette from becoming a couple. On Gabriel's orders, he was forced to break up Adrien and Marinette's first kiss.
In "Miraculous London", Placide becomes shocked and saddened when learning from Bug Noire about Gabriel's death while defeating Monarch, not only for Gabriel but also for Adrien.
Nathalie Sancoeur
Nathalie and Placide have a healthy professional relationship while working for Gabriel and they are both shown to be equally scared of him in "Gorizilla".
Marinette Dupain-Cheng
Placide was neutral towards Marinette as he tries to not let her interfere with Gabriel's orders in "Reflekdoll" and the alternate timeline in "Cat Blanc", before giving in during both cases. However, once Marinette has a date with Adrien in "Protection", he warms up to her and starts to support their relationship while also trying to hide it from Gabriel. In "Revolution", Placide allows Adrien to see Marinette when she calls for him on the plane. On Gabriel's orders, much to his regret, he has to break up their first kiss.
He is unaware of Marinette being Ladybug.
In "Miraculous London", when Bug Noire arrives to the Tsurugi Laboratories in London to release Adrien, Placide stops the heroine from opening Adrien's prison room with her Cataclysm and opened himself with his keycard and then learned from her, much to his shock, that Gabriel supposedly died helping her to defeat Monarch.
Colt Fathom
Though a play in "Representation", Placide I.T. was Colt's best man before his employment was traded to Gabriel Agreste in exchange for being lent the Peacock Miraculous to create a child for himself.
Amélie Graham de Vanily
Not much is known about his relationship with Lady Amélie other than he used to work for her husband until his services were traded to Gabriel. In "Re-creation", he serves her and Nathalie drinks at the pool party being held at the Agreste mansion.
