"Passion" is a Season 5 episode of the series, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. As based on the series' production order specifically, "Passion" is the 7th written and produced episode of Season 5. It is also the 111th written and produced episode of the series, overall.
Synopsis
As Marinette tries to convince herself that she loves Cat Noir to try and forget about Adrien, Adrien, who has given up on being in love with Ladybug, tries to find a way to declare his feelings to Marinette. As everything turns upside down in their lives, Ladybug and Cat Noir exchange their Miraculous to escape a ruthless villain. But the return of Mister Bug is about to make things even more confusing in Lady Noire’s heart.

Plot
Marinette, in her bedroom, tries to convince Alya that she is in love with Cat Noir and explains that her love for Adrien cost her the Miraculouses, but Cat Noir is her partner who is always there for her and also loves her. Alya points out that he's in love with Ladybug, but Marinette says those are the same thing. Alya says that she falls in love with someone else once Adrien falls for her, but Marinette says those two things are not related and leaves for school early and in her pajamas.
Adrien wakes up saying Marinette dreamily, repeatedly. Plagg, annoyed asks if he forgot all about Ladybug. Adrien says Ladybug doesn't want him, and she has the right to choose and enters his kitchen where his father is cooking pancakes. Gabriel asks Adrien if he would like bananas on his pancakes. Adrien complies.
Nathalie hears Adrien's alarm ringing, and enters his room, warning that he will be late. When he is not there, she turns off the alarm, and runs to the kitchen, where she finds Adrien and his father eating breakfast. She informs Gabriel that Adrien prefers his pancakes plain. Adrien says it's okay, but Nathalie tells him not to force himself for his father. Gabriel and Nathalie stare at each other aggressively for a moment. Then they both get alarms and send Adrien to school. Adrien says he forgot to pack his bag and runs off.
Suddenly, Nathalie pins Gabriel to the table, telling him she came to hunt for magical artifacts for Emilie and him. Nathalie then explains how she was his bodyguard, friend and more and now it is all over. She also states he did what he did out of love for Emilie, but now he is only doing it out of madness and she's only here to protect Adrien from him. Gabriel states what he is doing is to make Adrien happy but Nathalie states the only thing Adrien needs to be happy is his father.
Nathalie tells Gabriel that he must accept that he will never get Emilie back out of her coma and that even Emilie accepted her fate. He refuses to believe that. Nathalie says to stop kidding and tells him about the recordings Emilie left for them that they both saw. He tells her that he couldn't bear it and about why he made Nathalie destroy Emilie's recordings. Gabriel says it is too late and shows his left arm that was cataclysmed by Cat Noir to her. Gabriel tells Nathalie that if she doesn't help him take Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses and help bring Emilie back, he won't be able to save himself and Nathalie and Adrien will have no one.
Adrien talks to Plagg about how his father and Nathalie are getting alone and asks for his opinion about giving a ring to Marinette. Adrien then suggests a poem but Plagg doesn't like his idea. Meanwhile, in Nathalie's room, Nathalie, says what is happening cannot be happening. She takes her phone out from the safe and watches a video Emilie recorded. In the video, Emilie is counting on Nathalie and says her husband is stubborn and won't stop hunting after the Miraculouses and that Adrien needs them both. Nathalie promises Emilie that she will get the Ladybug and the Cat Miraculouses before Gabriel does.
Suddenly, Adrien knocks on the door and asks Nathalie how he should express his love for Marinette. Nathalie tells Adrien about her past and tells him that when she liked Gabriel, she had found out that he had feelings for Emilie. She then tells him that love was complicated. But all of a sudden she starts coughing. Adrien becomes worried and asks her if what happened to his mother will also happen to Nathalie, to which she answers no. Nathalie tells to Adrien to head off to school.
In the Crypt, Gabriel is talking to Emilie, saying how he doesn't know how to proceed alone. Nathalie arrives and tells him he is not alone and reminds him about a promise she made about how she would get him magical items he would need, but failed in getting Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses. Nathalie states it is now time for her to fulfil her promise. Gabriel tells Nathalie that she had risked too much. She asks Gabriel to akumatize her.
In front of the school, Adrien tells Marinette that he is not fine and she tells him that being there is enough for someone who is sick. Plagg talks to Tikki about their holders being in love with each other and reassures him at everything is fine. The megakuma sent by Monarch infects a mannequin that has a hunting suit on it. Monarch akumatizes Nathalie and transfers the essence of the Goat Miraculous, as Caprikid's Genesis, to her. Nathalie gets akumatized into Safari. She then draws a chest full of hunting equipment so that she cannot miss her prey and allows her to know where Ladybug and Cat Noir are. Monarch tells Safari that she cannot use more than six powers simultaneously and tells him she will not the same mistake he did.
Safari then casts an illusion of Timetagger reappearing. Excited to meet Cat Noir again, Marinette is told by Tikki to focus on defeating Timetagger instead. Marinette transforms into Ladybug. Soon, she and Cat Noir show up and Safari uses a gadget to locate them. Safari creates a Venom Bolt. Ladybug and Cat Noir start to chase after the Timetagger illusion before it disappears. Ladybug is struck by the bolt and Cat Noir uses his powers on a bot, only to see that there are four more bolts after him. Cat Noir realizes that Safari is Nathalie and promises to set her free.
After escaping the bolts in the sewers, Cat Noir detransforms back into Adrien and the bolts leave him alone. Adrien realizes that the bolts were only after Ladybug and him but not Mister Bug and Lady Noire. With Plagg's help, Adrien gets the Ladybug Miraculous without discovering her secret identity. Adrien explains his plan to Marinette but suddenly Adrien asks Marinette about combining the two and making a wish to fix the errors of the world. Marinette tells him that the balance between creation and destruction must always be maintained, she is relieved when Adrien decides to trade their Miraculouses instead. Mister Bug and Lady Noire find out that their plan worked.
After destroying all of Safari's belongings except her suit, Mister Bug and Lady Noire realize that the megakuma is not on her. Mister Bug uses his Lucky Charm and receives a bottle of perfume. After seeing an advertisement for a bottle of the perfume made by the Agreste brand, Mister Bug realizes that the akumatized object must be at the Agreste mansion. While he goes to Nathalie's room, Lady Noire continues to fight Safari. After destroying the mannequin that has the megakuma in it, Mister Bug purifies the megakuma and repairs all of the damage that occurred when Safari was fighting Mister Bug and Lady Noire. Safari is deakumatized back into Nathalie. Terribly weakened after her akumatization, she staggers... Mister Bug immediately catches her. Assisted by Lady Noire, he helps her sit down on the bed. Gabriel rushes in, asking what has happened. He kneels down next to Nathalie, showing his concern... and taking the opportunity to take a close look at Mister Bug, Lady Noire and their Miraculous
Mister Bug (Adrien behind the mask) is absolutely furious at seeing Nathalie in this state. He is indignant against Monarch who used a sick woman for his projects and exclaims that he will pay for his actions. Lady Noire shoots the determined Mister Bug an admiring glance. Gabriel and Nathalie look at him too, but because he's talking about Gabriel.
After giving back their regular Miraculouses, Marinette explains what happened to Alya in her room and tells her about her feelings for Mister Bug/Cat Noir. In her room, Nathalie is thinking about Emilie and Adrien enters and apologizes, thinking he has caused her akumatization. Adrien tells Nathalie he will always be there for her and Nathalie asks him to tell her about Marinette and what it was Adrien wanted to know as the episode ends.

- Internationally, this episode first premiered in France on TFOU.
- The episode shares its name with the concept of the Goat Miraculous.
- It's revealed that the Goat Miraculous can create multiple objects by drawing a container full of them.
- However, this could be due to Nathalie being akumatized, Monarch modifying the Miraculouses, or Nathalie being an adult.
- The weapons Safari creates appear to be magical, which seemingly contradicts what Caprikid said in "Penalteam".
- However, since Safari's power allows her to never miss a target and the projectiles used by her are charged with other Miraculous superpowers, it appears that the objects created by Genesis can use magic coming from an external source.
- And also it seems like Safari actually didn't get the powers of the real miraculouses directly, but the powers she used, for example Mirage and Venom is actually provided by Monarch's akuma.

- Gabriel also saw the heroes to blame for his problems as they constantly stopped him from realizing his wish but they had no idea what wish he wanted nor he wouldn't admit his own mistakes.

- As Lady Noire, Marinette asked Mister Bug about going to movie which is about the same thing he asked her in "Timetagger" and "Gang of Secrets".
- This is the fourth appearance of Adrien's pajamas following "Kuro Neko", "Risk" and "Multiplication".
- It's revealed that Nathalie used to be a treasure hunter of magical artifacts and that is the reason why she came to the Agreste household.

- Plagg says that Marinette and Adrien falling in love and revealing their identities will be the end of the world. Tikki says it wouldn't happen, but that is exactly what happened in "Cat Blanc" and "Ephemeral".
- It's revealed that Gabriel has been tracking the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous before Emilie fell victim to the final collateral effect of the damaged Peacock Miraculous. However, seeing how obsessive her husband was getting, Emilie expressed the desire of him stopping and left recordings of herself expressing that same desire. According to Gabriel, he ordered Nathalie to erase all those recordings, but it's shown that she still has them, including one directed to her where Emilie asks her to take care of Adrien.
- This is third time Nathalie gets akumatized following "Catalyst" and "Ladybug". However, this time she gets akumatized into a new form called Safari.
- Safari is the fourth villain to request powers from Hawk Moth/Shadow Moth/Monarch directly, after Chameleon, Queen Banana and Style Queen in "Optigami".
- This is also the first time the heroes face an akumatized Nathalie directly.
- This is the second time a villain gets their powers not immediately after Hawk Moth/Monarch's speech, but instead by touching a newly akumatized object, after "Reverser".

- This is the fifth episode we see a white background and not the actual destination for a portal made by Voyage, after "Destruction", "Jubilation" "Illusion", and "Determination".
- It's revealed that Ivan and Mylène don't wear Alliance rings, making them the third and fourth members of Miss Bustier's class to do so.
- This is the first time Adrien thinks of using the Absolute Power (in the current timeline), wanting to use it to save Nathalie from her illness. But he ends up giving that idea up after Marinette explains to him that using it would create disastrous consequences, as the illness would not be healed, but only transferred to another person.
- Even though Adrien doesn't know it yet, Marinette in "Robostus" asked Master Fu the exact same thing about using the Absolute Power to end conflicts and cease other miseries. Marinette's reply to Adrien is identical to what she was told by Fu.
- Including alternative timelines, this is the second time he thinks in using the Absolute Power, with the first one being in "Cat Blanc", where he, akumatized into the titular villain, sought to take Ladybug's Miraculous so he could fix the damages he had caused with his power.
- Adrien was thinking the same as his father using the jewels to heal someone they cared about of their condition but unlike Gabriel, Adrien cared about the consequences of using such power.
- This is also the first time where Adrien held both his and Ladybug's Miraculouses at the same time.
- With the examples Marinette mentioned taken into account, the ironic fact is that they already have all that even without the wish.
- This is one of the few times the detransformation timer is mentioned.
- This is the first time a Lucky Charm is summoned when its summoner already knows the answer to defeat the villain. Mister Bug knew who Safari was and where to find her akumatized object. However, in order to preserve his secret identity, he summoned the Lucky Charm hoping it would give him the excuse he needed to go after the akumatized object without revealing his connection to the akumatized villain.
- Mister Bug mentions previous Lucky Charms that included a radiator, a whistle, and a playing card. The first one was seen in "Riposte", but the other two were never shown on-screen.
- Those two lucky charms he mentioned were also the akumatized objects of Rogercop and Simon Says from the episodes of the same names.
- This is tenth time a Lucky Charm object resembled an akumatized victim's object, in this case, a perfume bottle in "Princess Fragrance".
- Lady Noire's vision is seen for the first time. Instead of coloring on objects with certain patterns, the objects she focuses on are encircled with green and black circles.
- Mister Bug's De-Evilize sequence has been reanimated compared to the one used in "Reflekdoll". Because in that episode, Mister Bug was carrying his Lucky Charm mirror on his back when he was capturing the Akuma and Amok.

- Since Tikki was seen holding a pencil while finishing a drawing which could imply that, like Plagg in "Kuro Neko", she has an artistic side too.
- More is revealed about the Bee Miraculous and Venom:
- When someone is under the effects of Venom, they are completely paralyzed, unable to move, see, hear or even think.
- The effects of Venom will be undone if the target becomes someone else. For example, if a Miraculous user's magic jewel is removed, causing them to detransform.
- A likely explanation for this is because the power of Venom was combined with Safari's tracking magic. Because the Venom shot was tracking Ladybug, once she detransformed to her civilian form, the effect ended. This is further supported by the fact that, in "Evolution", Bunnyx remained paralyzed even after her Miraculous was removed.
- It's confirmed that Venom can also be used to paralyze any kind of object.
- And yet, it ended up on a statue of Cat Noir but since statues don't move the power should've been ineffective.
- Plagg saying "Without your suit, they flew away from you as fast as I'd run away from cheese in a can", implies that he doesn't like canned cheese as much as dairy free cheese.
- Gabriel has changed his goals regarding the Absolute Power to include himself in it by healing the injury he got from being Cataclysmed, implying that the effect will not only remain but get worse and spread throughout his body.
- Adrien thinking he could write a poem to Marinette to express his love for her is exactly what he did for her alter ego in "Dark Cupid".
- This is the second time Emilie talks, following "Evolution".
- This is the eleventh time Marinette end up separated Tikki, following "Princess Fragrance", "Sandboy", "Miraculous Shanghai", "Reflekdoll", "Weredad", "Kwamibuster", "Feast", "Sole Crusher", "Hack-San" and "Dearest Family".

- This is the tenth time where a Miraculous has its ownership transferred in the show following "Anansi", "Reflekdoll", "Desperada", "Kwamibuster", "Queen Banana", "Mega Leech", "Penalteam", "Strikeback" and "Evolution". But unlike the other instances, "Anansi" dealt with a holder who couldn't use it.
- Alya was actually right about Marinette running away from her feelings but when Marinette couldn't explain why or from what, she partially already knew:
- As she was using her feelings towards Cat Noir to run from Adrien was because she was afraid of falling in love with him again becoming controlled by her love fantasies and impulses leading to everything fall apart.
- Despite both Ladybug and Cat Noir being controlled by love impulses it's done to a different degree: as Cat Noir's came from a lack of love and isolation while Ladybug's comes from her fear of a lack of perfection and not being good enough which she doesn't realize that is her problem until "Perfection".
- The line "I'm not even an influencer" came up by Bryce himself (and is not in the script).
- Since Nathalie as Safari had her alliance ring exposed and if Mister Bug or Lady Noir had thought to remove it or had it become broken during the fight it's unknown what will happen to the kwami if the akumatized victim is stripped of their alliance ring that imprisons them if said kwami will return to it's cage in Monarch's lair or remain where it is just separated from it's Miraculous.
- Nathalie talks to Monarch through the akumatization before Monarch actually creates the akuma. The significance of this is not yet clear.
- This is the first episode where Anne Yatco voices Olga Mendeleiev.
- Nathalie is the second character to be seen crying with her makeup smeared, following Fei in "Miraculous Shanghai"
- This is the the first time Marinette was affected by Venom.
Errors
- In the sewers, Ladybug's sideburn goes missing in the close-up of her earring.
- After Nathalie closes the safe in her wall, the picture is mirrored.
- When Monarch presses the button on the Goat's ring, the symbol on the Monkey's ring is miscolored blue.
- When Monarch transfers the quantum essence of the Goat Miraculous to Safari, the goat logo inside the ring is facing the wrong direction.
- After creating her weapons, Safari's Paint Brush disappears.
- In almost all of Monarch's scenes, the button in the middle of the Butterfly Miraculous is white.
- Despite her power being the ability never to miss a prey, Safari misses when she throws the Adrien Agreste poster.
- She also misses when throwing other objects, but this may be because her targets were moving and the objects she threw were heavy.
- Throughout the episode, the colors of the face masks randomly switch between blue and purple.
- When Gabriel looks at Lady Noire, her ring has 3 pads left, but when her Miraculous blinks, four are left.
- In the shots before Adrien bumps into Marinette, she can't be seen in the background.
- In the scene where Adrien transforms into Mister Bug, his earrings are in their charged mode instead of camouflaged mode.
- Throughout the episode, the kwami cages are empty.
- When Emilie is shown, her brooch is shifted sideways.
- The closed captions refer to Tikki as "Sugarcube" at the end of the episode.
- The photos from Gabriel's past in Nathalie's safe aren't there, despite later being seen in "Revelation".
- Marinette is initially shown as being in the furthest right toilet booth, but when she transforms, the light comes out of the central one.
