Plot
In a flashback that takes place sometime after the events of "Migration," Ladybug and Cat Noir, dressed in their original suits, observe as Luka Couffaine bids farewell to his twin sister Juleka and their mother. He is preparing to leave Paris with Jagged Stone and Penny to go into exile in Rio de Janeiro. Luka believes this is necessary to protect Ladybug and Cat Noir, as he knows their secret identities and cannot risk being akumatized by Monarch, which could reveal their secrets. Cat Noir expresses doubt about Luka's reasoning, but when Ladybug confesses that Luka told her he knows who she is under the mask, Cat Noir becomes anxious. When he asks about his own identity, Ladybug denies having been told who he is, explaining that knowing would put both of them at risk. Nonetheless, Cat Noir is still worried that Luka might know his true identity. Cat Noir decides to follow Luka's taxi to the airport. After reverting to his identity as Adrien, he tries to stop Luka from boarding his flight to Brazil. Despite Adrien's attempts to persuade him to stay, Luka insists that remaining in Paris would only endanger Ladybug and Cat Noir further, reducing their chances of defeating Monarch. He hints that he does know Adrien is Cat Noir. In a final plea, Adrien urges Luka to reconsider, but Luka expresses his confidence in both Adrien and Ladybug. He assures them that he will return once Monarch is no longer a threat before boarding his flight.
Marinette is seen running around the Liberty, searching for Adrien while Gabriel's voice haunts her with a reminder of her promise to fulfill his last request: that no one, not even Adrien, knows about his evil actions. When she returns to inside the ship, she is back in her upgraded suit as Ladybug. The reporters from her earlier interview in "Miraculous London" ask her the same questions about her final fight with Monarch at Gabriel's mansion and whether there is a connection between Gabriel and Monarch. Overwhelmed, she flees and finds herself back in her pajamas, ducking into Luka's room as Gabriel calls out to her again. Luka then appears from under the bed sheets to reassure Marinette that she can tell him anything. Stressed, Marinette confesses that she lied to everyone: Gabriel was Monarch all along. However, the comforting presence of Luka suddenly shifts to Adrien, who is furious to discover that his own father has been the madman terrorizing Paris and the world. Enraged by Marinette's deception, Adrien declares that their relationship is over. At that moment, one of Chrysalis' Ultrakumas flies over and goes into Adrien's ring, akumatizing him instantly, despite Marinette's desperate attempt to stop it. Suddenly, Marinette wakes up back in her own bed, drenched in cold sweat and shock, realizing that the entire ordeal was a nightmare—one of several she has experienced recently, as Tikki has noticed. Even worse, Marinette is so stressed that she stumbles over her words, saying "evilize" instead of "energized" before correcting herself. Nevertheless, when she looks at her picture of Adrien, she seems to relax, feeling comforted as she transfers a kiss from her lips to the picture with her fingers.
At his mansion, Adrien is having breakfast with Nathalie, but appears to have lost his appetite. Nathalie notices, realizing that the meeting he's going to with her today is probably bringing up some painful memories, and offers to go alone, but Adrien insists since he is Gabriel's son, and assures her he'll have Marinette to support him.
At the Dupain-Cheng Bakery, Marinette is having breakfast with Sabine, but again finds herself mincing her words when she says "Monarch" instead of "from me" before catching and correcting herself, and even calling Tom "Senti-Dad" before correcting herself to "Super Dad", leaving Sabine puzzled and Tom not even taking notice. However, as Marinette boards her electric scooter, Tikki attempts to convince her to tell Adrien the truth as the guilt is eating away at her. Only after Marinette minces her words again does Tikki point out that if she doesn't, she'll probably tell him the truth by accident. Realizing Tikki is right, Marinette calms down and tries to focus, assuring Tikki she's got this as they drive to the Agreste Mansion.
In his room, Adrien is looking at Froggy again as he has it play the recording from Gabriel with his knock-knock joke. Plagg takes notice and asks him what's wrong. Adrien confesses that, as Cat Noir, he was obligated to help Ladybug defeat Monarch, but instead, his father sacrificed himself to end Monarch's threat forever, and Adrien can't comprehend how the man who made his life so miserable also gave up his life to save the world from Monarch. Plagg reminds him that Ladybug told him all the details of her final clash with Monarch and what happened, but Adrien feels like she's not telling him the whole story and should have been there when she faced Monarch. It is then he realizes that Plagg was there since Ladybug unified the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous to become Bug Noire, so he must know what actually happened. Knowing Adrien is right as he was supporting Marinette during her final clash with Gabriel as Bug Noire, Plagg is able to hide the truth by saying he was in the Black Cat Miraculous at the time in a magical energy state, but the details are a bit blurry for him to remember. Thankfully, before Adrien can press the issue further, Marinette arrives, but again, suffers a mincing with her words when she asks if he's ready to "deceive" before correcting herself to "leave". Not catching the slip-up, Adrien assures her he is now that she's here, but as he heads out, Marinette has a look of sadness on her face before following.
At City Hall in the Hôtel de Ville, Marinette, Adrien, and Nathalie are with Mayoress Bustier and architect Théo Barbot as, due to the recent vandalism to the Statue of Gabriel Agreste, Théo plans on creating a new, and larger, one to place outside City Hall, with the funding already supplied by Tomoe Tsurugi and Tsurugi Industries. Théo seems to be very engrossed in his praise and worship of Gabriel, due to the fact he explains that he worked with Gabriel on several projects before his passing and was like a mentor to him. Adrien scornfully attempts to explain to Théo about how miserable Gabriel made his life with keeping him from loving Marinette, which does cause Théo to be taken aback. Marinette also tries to convince Adrien otherwise, but when she nearly minces her words again with saying "moth", Nathalie shoots her an angry glare to remind her to keep her mouth shut about the real truth regarding Gabriel, and Marinette quickly corrects herself with reminding Adrien that his father did save Ladybug, but Adrien reminds her of how bland and tasteless Gabriel's pancakes were, but this only causes Théo to praise Gabriel more with being a good cook as well. Fed up, Adrien tells Théo he needs to think the plan over, and departs with Marinette, while Nathalie tells him and Mayoress Bustier that they will get back to them on the final decision for the statue.
Outside the Mayor's office, as Adrien heads down the stairs, Marinette tries to catch up to him and ask him what's going on. Adrien knows that Marinette met his father before, and asks how he could be both the man that saved Paris and the man that tried to keep them separated. Although Marinette reassures him that Gabriel loved Adrien in his own way, Adrien is unconvinced, still upset at the harm he caused to the two of them, and hearing Théo talk his mouth off with speaking so highly of Gabriel is like they are talking about someone else, and not the man Adrien knew his father as, wondering if that makes him a bad son. Marinette assures him is doesn't and he's done nothing wrong, but Adrien still believes that if he had been there to help Ladybug against Monarch, he could have saved Gabriel. Marinette lets slip the same thing she told him as Bug Noire in that there's nothing he could've done to save his father, but Adrien asks her how could she know that since neither of them were there when it happened. Before Marinette has a chance to realize she nearly broke her promise to Gabriel and told Adrien the truth, Nathalie intervenes and tells Adrien they should head home. Marinette and Adrien nod in agreement and head for the exit, but Nathalie glares after Marinette, deeply troubled by how Marinette almost broke their promise to Gabriel to keep the truth buried.
When they return to the Agreste Mansion, Placide lets Adrien in. Once he's inside, Marinette tells Nathalie out of earshot of Adrien that she can't continue hiding the truth. Nathalie, however, reminds her that they made a promise to Gabriel, and there's no turning back now. Marinette will have to endure the situation. Later, at home, while practicing her guitar with Luka through the Zoo application, Marinette meets his new girlfriend from Brazil, named Irupé. Overwhelmed by her emotions, Marinette finally decides that she will travel to Rio to see Luka in person.
As he waits for Marinette, Luka reflects on the time he was given the Snake Miraculous again after Marinette restored it by using the information in the recovered Miraculous Grimoire to restore all the Miraculous that Monarch took from her. He confesses to her that he is leaving Paris for Rio because he fears his joy at seeing her and Adrien together could turn into jealousy. He worries that this jealousy might lead him to be akumatized by the new wielder of the Butterfly Miraculous and turn against them. Consequently, as Viperion, he apologizes for what he is about to do next. He tells Marinette he is going to lie to protect her and activates his ability, Second Chance. During the replay, he tells Marinette that he has a new girlfriend in Rio, which makes her happy for him.
After his flashback, Cosmobug arrives and transforms back into Ladybug. She takes Luka to a secluded spot under an open umbrella by the supply shack to keep them hidden. Sass, the kwami of the Snake Miraculous, asks his Guardian what’s wrong. Ladybug requests the Snake Miraculous from Luka, and recalling Sass into the bracelet, he hands it over. Ladybug unifies Sass with Tikki, transforming into Viperbug. As she prepares to use Second Chance herself, she confesses to Luka that Gabriel is Monarch and reveals her struggle to keep this secret from Adrien and how much it is tearing her apart inside. She fears he could be akumatized if he learned the truth. After listening to her, Luka acknowledges that he knows some things as well and asks Marinette for the Ladybug Miraculous so he can help fix the situation. However, Viperbug resists his request. Despite his pleas, she activates Second Chance. After the reset, she divides the Miraculous and hands Sass and the Snake Miraculous back to Luka, encouraging him to be happy with Irupé and not to worry about her, which he accepts.
Back in Paris, Mayoress Bustier informs Théo that Nathalie and Adrien have refused to authorize the construction of the new statue of Gabriel. Upon hearing this, Théo becomes enraged and storms out of the Hôtel de Ville, muttering that Adrien is an ungrateful son. One of Chrysalis' Ultrakumas then infects the model of the Gabriel statue he's holding. As Chrysalis contacts him and offers him a chance for revenge, he accepts. Initially hesitant to choose a name, he is encouraged by her to ask to be called "Mister Agreste," and she grants his wish. As Théo gets akumatized, he is engulfed in the purple ether of Transmission, which encases him inside a giant living clay statue of Gabriel, and it storms off to find Adrien.
When Adrien and Plagg see the living statue of Gabriel approaching, Nathalie enters the room to try to get Adrien to safety. However, the statue bursts through the wall, burying her under debris. Horrified, Adrien hides in his bathroom, transforms into Cat Noir, and rescues Nathalie, urging her to escape. When she warns him that Adrien is still trapped inside his room after he fled into the bathroom, he reassures her that he'll free him and tells her to save herself. Nathalie manages to escape while Cat Noir tries to confront the statue but struggles, still bitter and upset about how Gabriel had changed over the years—transforming from Papa Corn to the cold and heartless man he had become before sacrificing himself to rid the world of Monarch. Realizing he needs help, Cat Noir opens his staff and uses the Miraculous Call to contact Ladybug for assistance.
Before she can arrive, the statue buries him under debris at a subway entrance, leaving his hand with the Black Cat Miraculous exposed. The statue attempts to claim it, forcing Adrien to revert back to his civilian form. Fortunately, before the statue can discover his identity, he manages to crawl through the debris and escape into the subway, much to the statue's annoyance. Ladybug arrives to fight the statue, but like Cat Noir, her attempts to damage it only result in its severed parts regenerating. This leads her to wonder whether the statue is invincible. She summons several Lucky Charms for assistance, starting with a rapier sword and ending with a megaphone. Unfortunately, she is soon captured, but just before the statue can claim the Ladybug Miraculous, Adrien emerges and commands the statue to stop. The statue decides to delay claiming the Ladybug Miraculous to speak with Adrien. As Adrien confronts the statue, he expresses how Gabriel has ruined his life. Ladybug encourages him to use her dropped Lucky Charm to continue his speech. Adrien poses questions to the statue that address his father's controlling behavior: Why did he want to control Adrien's every move? Why was he always traveling the world instead of staying with Émilie while she was sick? Why did he not want Adrien to meet his grandparents, attend school like everyone else, or fall in love with Marinette? The most piercing question he asks is why Gabriel stopped being "Papa-corn" and became a cold, heartless statue. As he voices his bottled-up anger, Mister Agreste begins to stop moving and starts to dry and crack, literally shattering Théo's praise and worship of Gabriel as he hears how severely Gabriel has harmed Adrien's life. By the time Adrien has expressed all his pent-up emotions, the statue has cracked so much that it ultimately crumbles, freeing Théo and the Ultrakuma. Ladybug catches both of them before they hit the ground and gives Théo a Magical Charm. She thanks Adrien and asks how he feels after letting go of his anger toward his father. He replies that he feels better, and they share a "Pound it!" fist bump, before Ladybug has Plagg return the Black Cat Miraculous to Cat Noir.
Later, the two Miraculous users meet at their usual hangout spot overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Cat Noir apologizes for not being in the right state of mind during their latest battle. Ladybug reassures him that it's all good, and they head home to their respective residences. When Adrien returns home, he reverts back to his civilian form but realizes that he will have to accept the painful truth that he will have unanswered questions regarding his father. As he walks away, Plagg looks after him with concern. Meanwhile, Marinette returns home and transforms back from Ladybug. Looking out over her balcony towards the Notre-Dame Cathedral, she calls Adrien to see if he's alright. After he assures her he's okay and hangs up, Marinette voices her concerns to Tikki about how Nathalie was right: she made her choice and now has to stick to it—there's no turning back.
In the stinger, we return to the moment when Cosmobug approached Luka to speak with him. Ladybug takes Luka to a nearby building for a private conversation. Meanwhile, at the side of the beach, Irupé watches them while holding an açaí bowl. Neither Ladybug nor Luka were aware that Irupé had seen them. She is accompanied by her own Kwami-like partner, Maino'li, and they both begin to wonder what secrets Luka might be hiding from them if he knows Ladybug.

Trivia
- At San Diego Comic Con 2025, two scenes from the episode were shown to attendees.[7][8]
- This episode was released first on the Brazilian channel Gloob, but was aired in English with Portuguese subtitles.
- More about Luka after he left Paris to go to Brazil is revealed following "Migration" and again in "Re-creation":
- Before he boarded the plane to Brazil to be out of Monarch's reach, Adrien was the last person he spoke to, confirming to him that he knows his identity as Cat Noir.
- After Monarch's defeat and Ladybug gave him the Snake Miraculous permanently, Luka tried to return it to her (as Marinette), as he was planning to go to Brazil again.
- Luka also reveals why else he decided to return to Brazil, with that being his fear of being akumatized by the new Butterfly Miraculous holder due to still being in love with Marinette. He is afraid that the joy he feels for her and Adrien would turn into jealousy and ruin their friendship.
- Despite these confessions, he does it using Second Chance, rewinding time and instead lied to her about having a girlfriend in Brazil.
- In other words, Luka didn't want to act like Gabriel: being jealous nor angry towards Marinette and Adrien over something he doesn't have anymore and do anything as his akumatized alterego to break them up or put them in danger just so he could be happy which is exactly what Gabriel tried to do.
- And if he did Luka would be feeling extremely guilty over what he had done most likely Alya would be feeling the same thing if she exposed Marinette back in "Lady Wifi".
- The only way for Luka to be safe or at least halfway involves the duo's identities being erased from his mind so this episode foreshadows Cat Noir getting that power in "Revelator" and doing just that to Alya.
- This episode also gives a little more insight to the identities of Miraculous holders in Luka's case; usually when a Miraculous holder has their identity exposed to anyone, even a villain, they have to surrender their jewel so it doesn't get stolen, but depending on how their identity comes out, they not only run the risk of exposing themselves to one enemy but to any and all future enemies.
- Which also gives another advantage to the Butterfly Miraculous holder when used for evil, if the victim goes through something traumatizing, has unanswered questions, unresolved or lingering feelings and they can't vent properly, then the target becomes easier to akumatized or another way they can vent their feelings safely is that the victim has to be out of the Butterfly Miraculous holder's sensing range.
- Luka also reveals why else he decided to return to Brazil, with that being his fear of being akumatized by the new Butterfly Miraculous holder due to still being in love with Marinette. He is afraid that the joy he feels for her and Adrien would turn into jealousy and ruin their friendship.
- Luka has asked a girl named Irupé to be his pretend girlfriend in front of Marinette, so that she wouldn't worry about him and think he had moved on from her.
- Marinette/Ladybug, Adrien/Cat Noir, Luka/Viperion, and Juleka are seen in their old designs, but in the new animation style.
- Viperion's old outfit has a slight difference, with his pupils being snake-like instead of circular.
- This is the first time Marinette vents her problems involving her alterego to someone, aside from Master Fu, Alya nor Tikki; this time is Luka.
- Uniquely all her problems stem around or involve Adrien nor his alterego Cat Noir:
- In romantics aside from being in love with someone else and their identities Ladybug couldn't tell Cat Noir else why they couldn't be together until "Cat Blanc", except for mentioning of her fear of his akumatization in "Strikeback". Also she had no way else to prove it and even if she did tell him there's no guarantee he'd believe her or he'd be devastated at the weight of the truth leading to his akumatization.
- During Ladybug's guardianship, she was consumed by stress, fear and Gabriel's relentless hunting that caused her to push everyone away including Cat Noir and if she didn't there wasn't much else either one could do turning to a long game of patience.
- The knowledge of Gabriel's secrets, if/when Adrien learns everything nor it gets out to the world, it might be difficult for Ladybug and the others to prove Adrien's innocence.
- Uniquely all her problems stem around or involve Adrien nor his alterego Cat Noir:
- It's revealed that the original statue of Gabriel Agreste located on the Place des Vosges and made with the melted Alliance rings was vandalized, causing the request for a new statue made by Théo Barbot, who took the initiative to propose a much bigger statue of Gabriel and place it in front of the Hôtel de Ville.
- The request for the statue was eventually denied by Adrien, who couldn't come to terms that his father had saved the world despite not being a good father to him.
- However, it has been never revealed who was behind the vandalism, and why Gabriel statue was vandalized throughout the episode.
- Marinette unifies the Ladybug and Snake Miraculous, becoming Viperbug.
- This becomes the first new unification of season 6.
- Her reason to do so mirrors that of Luka using Second Chance after Marinette gave him back his Miraculous, as both did that to vent what they are feeling to each other without that knowledge becoming permanent.
- Both also re-winded time when the other tried to stop them, with them wanting to help the other: Viperion re-winded time when Marinette tried to stop him as she tried to prevent Luka from leaving Paris because of his feelings for her; meanwhile, Viperbug re-winded right when Luka tried to convince her to give him a chance to fix her problems.
- Luka becomes the first person to learn the truth about Gabriel Agreste being Monarch, aside from those who already knew. He is also the first person Marinette tells herself.
- Alya would briefly discover this in "Revelator," although the episode aired out of order.
- After Luka learns the truth, he is shocked by the revelation but does not hold it against Marinette. Instead, he asks her to lend him the Ladybug Miraculous, believing he can fix everything. However, Marinette interprets his request as a sign that it was a mistake to come talk to Luka, and she rewinds time before he can say anything else.
- This is a completely different reaction compared to Alya's, as she got upset with Marinette for keeping it a secret from her, especially since she would had to lie to Adrien as well. However, their situations are not the same, as Luka, besides knowing Marinette's identity as Ladybug, also knows Adrien's identity as Cat Noir, giving him a much wider perspective.
- Irupé, Luka's Brazilian friend and pretend girlfriend, is revealed to possess the Hummingbird Jewel, a necklace inhabited by Maino'li.
- She also comes to learn that Luka knows Ladybug on a more personal level, suspecting that he may be a Miraculous holder.
- This is the first time Chrysalis manages to obtain Ladybug or Cat Noir's Miraculous, this time being the Cat ring (albeit briefly).
- This would technically be the second time she obtained his Miraculous if the erased events of "Miraculous London" were to count.
- Cat Noir feels guilty after cataclysming Mister Agreste's right arm, paralleling what he had done to Monarch in "Destruction", not knowing that he was his father.
- Théo is re-akumatized again after 132 episodes, being the second longest period, after Vincent Aza's 135 episodes between "Pixelator" and "Revelator".
- Both his akumatizations involved imitating someone: Copycat had the same appearance and powers as Cat Noir, while Mister Agreste's appearance and behavior was modeled after Gabriel Agreste.
- This is the second episode ever where an akumatized villain learns that the duo's powers can grant wishes, following "Robostus".
- This is the third time Ladybug gets a weapon as a Lucky Charm object, following "Malediktator" and "Qilin".
- The poses that Chrysalis assumes when she communicates telepathically with Théo are references to many famous statues: The Thinker by Auguste Rodin, David by Michelangelo, Woman Bitten by a Serpent by Auguste Clésinger, Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss by Antonio Canova, and the Mattei Athena by an unkown ancient sculptor.
- When Mister Agreste crumbles and falls to pieces, the pose he assumes is based on the sculpture Écoute by Henri de Miller, symbolizing that Gabriel never listened to Adrien's true wishes.[9]
- Mister Agreste is very similar to Glaciator, with both civilians remaining untransformed after being akumatized, and instead being covered by a material which they can shoot as projectiles and regenerate when cut or destroyed.
- This is the sixth episode that an akumatized villain holds a person captive, following "Stoneheart", "Robostus", "Gorizilla", "Catalyst", "Gang of Secrets" and "Sole Crusher".
- This is the fifth time that Marinette/Ladybug got captured and held captive by an akumatized villain, following "Robostus", "Gorizilla", "Gang of Secrets" and "Sole Crusher".
Errors
- Throughout the episode, the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville has no vegetation, but during the scene of Marinette and Adrien talking near the door of the Hôtel de Ville, the landscape outside showed the square filled with trees.
- Both Irupé and Luka don't seem to have belly buttons, despite all other characters having them in other episodes.
- When Ladybug takes Luka away from the beach to talk to him, Luka clips through the little building that they talk behind.
- When Ladybug unifies the Ladybug and the Snake Miraculous, Sass is not shown entering the Snake Miraculous.
- When Viperbug is venting to Luka, the camouflaged Snake Miraculous can still be seen on Luka's arm, despite him having already lent the Miraculous to Ladybug.
- When Marinette walks past the bench in her balcony, more flowers form out of nowhere on the plant behind her head.
