Miraculous superpowers are special magical abilities granted by the Miraculouses to their owners.
Each superpower is specific to the Miraculous it is associated with, corresponding to the abstract concept that the respective Kwami embodies.
Description
Each Miraculous Superpower is unique to the Miraculous it is connected to. When a superpower is used, it starts a countdown, leaving the owner with only five minutes until the Miraculous loses power and the user detransform's back into their non-powered self. However, an adult Miraculous owner and any holder of the Rabbit Miraculous are not subject to this rule, allowing them to use their special superpower an unlimited number of times without their transformation dropping. Other than by using the Rabbit Miraculous, the only other two ways of how a younger Miraculous owner bypass that rule would be if they were akumatized and had their powers amplified by the Butterfly Miraculous holder. In "Miraculous Paris", an evil Miraculous holder can override this weakness and use their superpower indefinitely, but this will slowly destroy them.
Often, but not always, a Miraculous owners personal weapon is required to activate a superpower. If a power requires the use of the weapon, it can't be used if the user doesn't have access to the weapon (like if it got taken, or broken). Notable powers that don't require the weapon are:
- The Cat Miraculous superpower, Cataclysm, which doesn't require the Staff.
- The Butterfly Miraculous superpower, Kamikotization, which doesn't require the Cane.
- The Mouse Miraculous superpower, Multitude, which doesn't require the Skip Rope.
- The Ox Miraculous superpower, Resistance, which doesn’t require the Mallet.
- The Tiger Miraculous superpower, Clout, which doesn’t require the Bolas.
- The Rabbit Miraculous superpower, Burrow, which doesn't require the Umbrella.
- The Dragon Miraculous superpower, Wind Dragon, Water Dragon, and Lightning Dragon, which doesn't require the Sword.
- The Snake Miraculous superpower, Second Chance, which doesn't require the Lyre.
- The Horse Miraculous superpower, Voyage, which doesn't require the Horseshoe.
- The Rooster Miraculous superpower, Sublimation, which doesn’t require the Fountain Pen unless the super ability wished by the holder is complicated.
- The Eagle Miraculous superpower, Liberation, which doesn't require the Bullroarer.
Furthermore, a vocal command is required to activate a superpower. The vocal command is simply the name of the superpower. Notably, exceptions to this rule are the Butterfly Miraculous's Kamikotization and the Peacock Miraculous' Amokization, neither of which require a vocal command. This could not be because both users of those Miraculouses already have their adult powers rather than children like the rest of the Miraculouses because Félix Fathom is able to use Amokization without saying the superpower's name and adult Alix Kubdel has to say "Burrow" in order to use the Rabbit superpower.
When a Miraculous owner uses Unification they can fuse their powers together in a combo-attack, but it's unknown what kind of fusion powers will occur depending on what two Miraculous are fused together. So far, the only fusion power seen is the expandable elemental shield when the Dragon and Ladybug Miraculouses are combined. When fused the powers of both the miraculous can be used and all the powers are usable.
In "Mr. Pigeon 72", it is revealed that the powers of the Miraculous holders are limited only by the limits they put on themselves. It is entirely possible from them to develop new powers simply by allowing themselves to do so. For example, the Ladybug Miraculous grants the power of creation, so Marinette is able to create Magical Charms to ward away Akumas. This development of new powers can possibly change the Miraculous wearers costumes. This information is not recorded in the Miraculous spellbook, as the Order of the Guardians were unaware of this.
Kwamis are capable of utilizing their own superpowers without the presence of an owner. However, without a holder to channel and focus the power, it is unconstrained and results in some kind of catastrophe, as seen in "Style Queen" when Plagg used Cataclysm to destroy the Eiffel Tower, and inadvertently destroying half the city along with it. Plagg advising Ladybug to fix all the damage from this Cataclysm as quickly as possible suggests that even greater destruction was about to happen too. However, Kwamis are capable of exercising a moderate level of restraint with their catastrophically strong powers.
Known Superpowers
Wielding a Miraculous grants its wearer the power of transforming into an animal-themed superhuman, and, when transformed, grants increased superhuman physical abilities, such as strength, agility, and speed, as well as near invulnerability. As well as some of the animal abilities, the kwamis were based of off.
Each Miraculous also grants the user a unique superpower that corresponds to the abstract concept the Miraculouses respective Kwami was born from. Some of these powers even have secondary attributes.
When the user activates more than one Miraculous at a time, they gain access to the powers of both, as well as the ability to combine the superpowers to create new, stronger superpowers.

Ultimate Miraculous Absolute Power | "Re-creation" | Reality | Ladybug Miraculous & Cat Miraculous |

Adult Version Superpowers
In "Revolution", it seems for an underage Miraculous holder to be able to do this, they must not only spend time practicing their powers but understanding them, as well as learn what it truly means to be a hero. As Ladybug and Cat Noir let their enemies take advantage of their moral code, they realized even with and without powers on both sides of the line it was still their job along with everyone to stand up for what is right or in other words they need to have maturity and wisdom of an adult holder. With that mentally in mind the holder's detransformations will slow down and by seeing the people fight for their freedom and then followed suit and by focusing their will and determination they channeled their energy to unlock their adult powers. Also not only will a minor obtain the adult powers of the Miraculouses they've been assign to but to other Miraculouses if not all as Bug Noire, Marinette not only used Lucky Charm multiple times but Cataclysm too in "Re-creation".
Corrupted Adult Versions
Through the series there have been three corrupted Adult versions of the Miraculous superpowers the first one is through Akumatization where a miraculous holder is akumatized through the evil intentions of the Butterfly Miraculous holder. When using this method the person stays transformed for prolonged periods of time and receive unlimited use of their powers however on the other hand they may not get the full power package if the Butterfly miraculous holder doesn't know the exact capabilities of the adult holder's powers depending on which Miraculous they have.
Two is when the minor holder has something or someone disrupt their powers or they can't detransform as such with Ladybug in "Sandboy", when she was in the process of summoning her Lucky Charm the titular villain disrupted them and also the timer connected to them cancelling both out. In the middle of fighting the titular villain in "Silencer", thanks to Bob using Ladybug has a shield she lost her voice thereby couldn't summon her powers or detransform (vocally) in both incidents a holder can end up stuck experiencing the improper version of prolonged transformations until their powers are restored.
According to Tikki in "Miraculous Paris", when a minor holder uses a miraculous for evil, it removes the security measures that protects them from using too much energy with their powers despite getting the adult version, the strain causes black-purplish veins to appear on the minor's body and will gradually get worse until it destroys them. However, since Paw Noir and Ladybug now use their powers for good, it's unknown if they still possess the ability to use them multiple times or not.
Superpower | First | Types | Miraculouses | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Burrow | "Timetagger" and "Evolution" | Evolution | Rabbit Miraculous | Allows the user to use Burrow more multiple times without suffering temporary time anomalies. |
Cataclysm | "Miraculous Paris" and "Revolution" | Destruction | Cat Miraculous | Allows the user to summon Cataclysm multiple times but also expand it's range to give it more power, minimize it to lessen the damage and deactivate it without the need to touch something. |
Lucky Charm | "Miraculous Paris" and "Re-creation" | Creation | Ladybug Miraculous | Allows the user to summon Lucky Charm multiple times but only one at a time and the user can dis-spell their object without detransforming back or activating the Miraculous Ladybug superpower. |
Secondary Powers
Superpower | First | Miraculouses | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Full Access of all powers | "Re-creation" | All Miraculouses | Once the holder is an adult they have full power of not only their Miraculous but any or all they in their possession. |
Other Weakness Removal | "Miraculous Paris" | When a Miraculous holder is an adult they are also free from other limitations their individual powers may have. | |
Prolonged Transformations | "Mayura" | Once a minor obtains their adult powers they can stay transformed for longer periods of time after reaching limits. | |
Trigger Word Removal | "Timetagger", "Miraculous Paris", and "Re-creation" | Ladybug, Cat, and Rabbit Miraculouses | As an adult holder they don't need the trigger word as much as a minor sometimes only using it once and then sometimes activating their powers with an intention or thought. |
Symbolism
The superpowers a Miraculous grants are typically thematically related to the real world symbolism of the animal it is associated with. However, this is not always the case.[1]
- Ladybugs are symbolic of good luck, so the Ladybug Miraculous grants the user the power to create objects that are luckily always the perfect object to resolve the crisis at hand.
- Black cats are symbolic of bad luck, so the Cat Miraculous grants the user the power to destroy anything they touch, much like how bad luck can cause great chaos and destruction.
- Butterflies are symbolic of transformation, so the Butterfly Miraculous grants the user the power to transform ordinary people into superhumans, much like how a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.
- Foxes are symbolic of trickery, so the Fox Miraculous grants the user the power to cast an illusion, thus deceiving anyone who sees it.
- Bees are symbolic of business, so the Bee Miraculous grants the user the power to paralyze someone with their sting, thus paralyzing the victim much like how venom eventually kills the target and renders them motionless.
- Turtles are symbolic of protection, so the Turtle Miraculous grants the user the power to protect themselves with force field, much like how a turtle is protected by its shell.
- Peacocks are symbolic of spirituality, so the Peacock Miraculous grants the user the power to manifest someone's emotions into a physical form.
- Mice are symbolic of multiplication, so the Mouse Miraculous grants the user the power to multiply themselves.
- Oxen are symbolic of stability, so the Ox Miraculous grants the user the power to become impervious to the powers of others.
- Tigers are symbolic of strength, so the Tiger Miraculous grants the user the power to release a powerful punch capable of dominating the target.
- Rabbits are symbolic of time, so the Rabbit Miraculous grants the user the power to burrow through time.
- Dragons are symbolic of weather, so the Dragon Miraculous grants the user the power to transform into different weather conditions.
- Snakes are symbolic of rebirth, so the Snake Miraculous grants the user the power to go back for a Second Chance.
- Horses are symbolic of travel, so the Horse Miraculous grants the user the power teleport to anywhere they want to go.
- Goats are symbolic of ascension, so the Goat Miraculous grants the user the power to paint objects into existence, much like how a goat climbs, an artist strives for greater heights of their craft.
- Monkeys are symbolic of mayhem, so the Monkey Miraculous grants the user the power to disrupt other peoples abilities.
- Rooster are symbolic of flamboyance, so the Rooster Miraculous grants the user the power to gain any special abilities they desire.
- Dogs are symbolic of loyalty, so the Dog Miraculous grants the user the power to retrieve any object, much like how a dog brings things to their masters feet.
- Pigs are symbolic of happiness, so the Pig Miraculous grants the user the power to give a gift of happiness to someone.
- Eagles are symbolic of freedom, so the Eagle Miraculous grants the user the power liberate people from their personal restraints.
Kwami usage
When the Kwamis use their powers on their own without a holder to channel and focus them, it results in the power being far to strong, causing some kind of catastrophe such as things ending up in places where they're not suppose too. Because of this, Kwamis only use their powers without an owner during a very dire situation or losing control of themselves in desperation, and even then they are known to be hesitant.
Unlike minor holders but to similar to adult holders, without their owners the kwami can use their powers multiple times without losing energy or not needing to recharge after using their power as shown by Kaalki in "Optigami". In the event if a kwami is still fused with their owner after using their powers but their five minutes isn't up yet and somehow they destransform like by force, the kwami will still have energy left to use their powers on their own shown in "Kwamibuster".
When paired with minor holders such as with Sass in "Desperada", when his powers were used by Adrien for three months straight kwamis can't "feed" off of their holder's energy to sustain themselves or their powers because they aren't strong enough to handle to strain yet. Meaning the kwamis have to use the energy given to them by the food they eat to sustain themselves.
In "Evolution", it's revealed that the Miraculous superpower's effectiveness depends on how much energy their respective kwami possesses. If the kwami is left without food or their holders overuses their powers in one transformation, either by single use or unifying powers with other Miraculous, the holder becomes weakened.
Description | Image |
---|---|
When Plagg uses Cataclysm, it destroys everything over a very wide area, potentially destroying whole cities and sending entire species' into extinction. In "Deflagration", to another extent the effects of cataclysm are continuous if not repaired immediately. | |
When Trixx uses Mirage, it casts a massive, unpredictable illusion that can reach far away. | |
When Kaalki uses Voyage, the portal becomes like a black hole, sucking things in and teleporting them to random locations.
It can also open a massive portal in another location which can forcibly teleport gigantic structures to random locations. |
|
When Tikki uses Lucky Charm, it creates a gigantic object, big enough to block out the sun and disrupt the balance of gravity. In "Deflagration", similar to her owners Tikki can summon objects on a smaller scale but random ones will appear as well. | |
When Sass uses Second Chance, it causes numerous time anomalies, resulting in objects and living things from the past rapidly appearing and disappearing over a large area, as well as disrupting all devices that use or measure the passage of time to function. |
Weaknesses
Even though, the Miraculous superpowers are strong and yet throughout the series the superpowers were shown to have many weaknesses and nuances.
Weakness | First | Miraculous | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Aftermath/no one in control | "Simon Says", "Santa Claws", and "Miraculous New York" | Cat, Butterfly, Peacock and Eagle Miraculouses | Effects of some superpowers remain even after the user detransforms, if they or the jewel are no longer of this world. Then the people will remain affected until they are reverted back to normal possible getting themselves or others into trouble. |
Damage can't be undone by the user | "Stoneheart" and "Destruction" | Cat, Butterfly, Peacock, Tiger, Dragon, Horse, Monkey and Rooster Miraculouses | Some users can't do anything about the damage they leave behind needing the Miraculous Ladybug to restore everything, mainly with Amokization, Kamikotization, Cataclysm, Liberation, Voyage and Clout. |
Different effects in different locations | "Evolution" and "Passion" | Bee Miraculous | Sometimes when certain powers are used in different worlds or planes of existence they can have unusual or strange effects when used on others. |
Duration | "Queen Wasp", "Illusion" and "Passion" | When using some superpowers on a target the user must choose or predict how long they want the power to last because if they guess wrong it can lead to complications. | |
Emotions and feelings | "Gigantitan", "Cat Blanc", "Ladybug" and "Feast" | Cat, Butterfly, Peacock and Snake Miraculouses | A holder must keep their emotions or willpower in check because if the person loses control, then their powers will cause untold damage and destruction or won't be very effective. If the powers of Akumazation and Amokization are put into play then the holders can't control their victims or creations if the feelings that created them are too strong. |
Evil minor holders | "Miraculous Paris" | All of them | According to Tikki, when a minor holder uses a miraculous for evil, it remove the security measures that protects them from using too much energy with their powers despite getting the adult version, the strain causes black-purplish veins to appear on the minor's body and will gradually get worse until it destroys them. |
Improper prolonged transformation | "Sandboy" and "Silencer" | If the powers are being used by a young Miraculous holder therefore connected to a timer or if an adult Miraculous holder's are cancelled out or left unable to detransform, then they'll be stuck as their alter egos until their powers are restored by feeding their Kwami or unless their jewels are removed. | |
Lack of Stealth/Too Stealthy | "Adoration" and "Confrontation" | Ladybug, Butterfly, Peacock, Tiger, Horse and Dog Miraculouses | Due to not being discreet some superpowers can be easy to notice therefore can be avoidable or reveal the user's location making them easier to find. If the power is too stealthy then, most others won't notice until it's too late. |
Misconception and misunderstanding | "Destruction" and "Jubilation" | All of them | If the user misunderstands what the power is suppose to do or means they may end up using it incorrectly as well as maybe react in ways that are understandable but may lead to trouble. |
Minority | "Ladybug & Cat Noir" | All of them if used by a minor except for time related Miraculous | If a Miraculous is used by a minor such as a child or teenager that means they only have one use of their powers and five minutes until they destransform back. |
No or lack of immunity | "Miraculer" and "Simpleman" | Cat and Butterfly Miraculouses | Some Miraculous holders aren't immune to the effects of their owners. |
Object obstruction | "Rogercop" | All of them | According to Plagg, a holder's powers can be damage if a kwami gets sucked into the jewel with another object. Implying that if it does happen the powers will either not work at all, the way they're suppose to or go out of control but it's unknown what the full damage could be. |
Out of range/unconscious | "Startrain" and "Hack-San" | Butterfly, Fox and Peacock Miraculouses | If the users end up too faraway from their champions or not in possession of the Amok, then they'll act of their own accord and the telepathic connection won't be established also the connection will also break if their champions are knocked out or unconscious. |
Power cancellation | "Reflekta" and "Sandboy" | All of them | If the holder is struck by an akumatized villain while summoning their powers they'll be cancelled out. |
Power Range that is fixed | "Stormy Weather" | Cat and Tiger Miraculouses | Some of the superpowers can only cause certain sizes of amount of damaged to an area or is limited to what the user touches. |
Power transferring | "Hack-San", "Passion" and "Revelation" | Butterfly and Ladybug Miraculouses | Some superpowers won't transfer over to next user until the new owner has enough experienced. |
Power unification overload | "Kwamibuster" and "Evolution" | All Miraculouses | As per the effects of Unification, if more than two Miraculouses are used then according to Master Fu, the Miraculous holder would have too much power causing them to lose their mind or harm themselves. |
Redirection/forceful use | "Copycat", "Princess Fragrance" and "Destruction" | Cat, Bee and Tiger Miraculouses | Another downside to being a minor since some of them can't turn off their powers once they're activated their opponents can take advantage of the situation making the holder use them in ways they don't want to, expect or dangerous thereby traumatizing the user making them impede their judgement. |
Restrained hands | "Robostus" | Cat and Snake Miraculouses | In the event if a holder's hands are used the powers won't work if they're restrained. |
Summoned power but isn't used | "Anansi" and "Oblivio" | All of them | It's not only after using the superpowers that cause the minors to detransform back, but also summoning the powers will cause the timer to activate if they use them or not when used by a minor. When the owner detransforms with a summoned but unused superpower for some superpowers nothing will happen but for others is unknown. |
Two different holders but the same power | "Evolution", "Confrontation" and "Miraculous Paris" | Rabbit, Tiger and Butterfly Miraculouses | When two or more person use the same power, it could make the playing field an even match, they could share a link between each other or allow one holder to one up the other depending on their experience or knowledge. Or it could result in a massive explosion as well as any other strange side effects. |
Unable to call back superpowers | "Mayura" and "Ladybug" | All except Peacock, Butterfly, Fox, Eagle, Ladybug and Turtle Miraculouses | Once some superpowers are summoned, the holder can't call it back or turned it off. The few ways for it to be removed is if the person uses it, if they were forced off by outside forces or if they de-transform. But for some like Cataclysm and Lucky Charm it can be deactivated when the holder has their adult powers. |
Unfocused mind | "Sapotis", "Desperada", "Startrain", "Feast", "Kuro Neko" and "Evolution" | Ladybug, Cat, Fox, Rabbit, Snake, Horse and Peacock Miraculouses | If the users can't focus then their illusions, plans or sentimonsters won't turn out right or they could end up anywhere. |
Unusual side effects | "Reflekdoll" | Peacock and Cat Miraculouses | Other then that, some powers can affect others in unexpected ways like Cataclysm being used on a Sentimonster. |
Vital Energy Drain | "Mayura" and "Miraculous Paris" | All of them | If a miraculous is broken or damaged despite the superpowers functioning just fine the user will exert too much vital energy when using them leading to it drain away over a certain amount of time ranging from over a decade to less than a year. |
Voice activation by current user | "Silencer" | All except the Butterfly, Peacock and Snake Miraculouses | Superpowers are voice activated. If a Miraculous user can't talk, then they can't use their powers let alone transform. Someone else saying the activation command won't work. However, if someone uses the holder's voice and the latter wants to activate the power, it will activate. |
Weapon mental link destruction | "Simon Says" | Ladybug and Butterfly Miraculouses | If a Miraculous tool is destroyed then not only can the owner use it to summon their powers their mental connection is broken with it until the holder detransforms and retransforms. |
Weapon separation/destruction | Ladybug, Fox, Bee, Peacock, Goat, Monkey, Dog and Pig Miraculouses | Since some holders rely on their powers through their weapons, if they end up separated from them or if the tool ends up broken or damaged, then their powers can't be used. |
Trivia
- The color of the superpower matches the Miraculous it is associated with in most cases. The energy associated with Kamikotization is more black with purple accents.
- Not only that the color of the Miraculouses also matches the personality of the holders that use them in most cases like Marinette and the Ladybug Miraculous being red symbolizing her boldness, confidence, courage and fast thinking as a leader.
- Currently, the only known Miraculous to have more than one superpower associated with it are the Ladybug, Cat, Fox, Butterfly, Peacock, and the Dragon Miraculouses.
- The Butterfly and Peacock Miraculouses share the record for the most superpowers with five.
- Kamikotization/Amokization.
- Telepathy
- Empathy
- Bodily Control
- Power removal/Monster destruction
- It is arguable that these Miraculouses with multiple powers simply each have a single power that is divided into multiple parts.
- The Butterfly and Peacock Miraculouses share the record for the most superpowers with five.
- Out of all the known Miraculous superpowers only four of them are used for attacking by the holders, those are Cataclysm, Venom, Clout and Sublimation.
- And yet, Cataclysm is the most lethal when used on a human while Venom is the least lethal.
- In "Timetagger", Bunnyx was able to create portals without speaking. It can be assumed that when a Miraculous user that is an adult and/or has mastered their powers, their voice isn't required to activate them.
- Like in "Miracle Queen", as Snake Noir, Adrien used the Second Chance power while in space without saying the phrase because while there he couldn't breathe meaning that it's one of the few powers that can be activated without a voice command.
- In order for the power to be activated, besides the command, the holder needs to want to activate it or expect it to happen, being it to use it or out of curiosity.[2]
- This was seen in "Prime Queen", when Cat Noir asked if he should use Cataclysm; he said its name, but it did not activate. Again in "Queen Wasp" when Ladybug mentioned that Chloé could only use her special power once "like [my] Lucky Charm".
- Alternatively, in "Oblivio", when a memory erased Ladybug said her powers name and was curious about it, it worked.
- Sometimes that mental control also applies to the holders and their weapons like Ladybug and her yo-yo or Hawk Moth and his cane. However, if the weapons are destroyed so is the mental connection until the weapon is repaired.
- Sometimes in rare instances it works with superpowers as Ladybug was able to retrieve her Lucky Charms from impossible places seen in various episodes.
- Second Chance and Burrow are so far the only known Miraculous superpowers that can be used multiple times before the wearer detransforms as a result of their time-based powers.
- Not every superpower has a summoning sequence like Kamikotization, Amokization, Fetch, Sublimation, Dragon Miraculous superpower (Lighting Dragon and Water Dragon) and Liberation.
- Since Eagle used her powers to undo the effects of Liberation and in turned not the feathers herself it's also unknown if the timer was activated since another holder used the power to activate Liberation.
- The Miraculous Ladybug (superpower) has the most weaknesses out of all the known powers.
- In "Miraculous Paris", when used for good or evil some miraculous superpowers can work under different names such as when the Butterfly Miraculous is used for evil it's power is called Akumatization but when used for the opposite it's called Kamikotization.
