"Miraculous World: Rio de Janeiro" (or simply "Miraculous Rio") is a planned special TV movie of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. As based on the writing order specifically, "Miraculous Rio" is the third movie in the Miraculous World series.[2]
As of April 28, 2024, the special hasn't been greenlighted by executives yet. Thus, it's uncertain if it would ever be released in the near future.[3]
Production history
The special was originally hinted at by Gloob in a video they posted on their YouTube channel on October 20, 2020.[4] Two days later, Lindalee Rose confirmed that there will be a film from the Miraculous World series, taking place in Brazil.[5]
On October 28, 2020, Lindalee Rose announced that the film had been pushed back to late 2021 due to production hasn't started yet.[6]
On December 5, 2020, the CCXP panel revealed that the superhero Lady Butterfly will appear in the episode.[7]
In 2021, the story and the script for the special were written.[8]
On August 27, 2021, the special was added to the Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR) with an expected release on December 31 on Disney Channel.[9]
On October 2, 2021, at the merged Gloob presentation, it became known that Lady Butterfly was renamed LadyBlue due to fans' dissatisfaction.
On May 24, 2022, a poster of the special was revealed at Las Vegas Licensing with the tentative release year of the special being 2025.[10]
In July 2022, it was revealed via Licensing Russia that the special was slated for a 2024 release.[11]
Eventually, on April 28, 2024, Thomas Astruc confirmed on Twitter that the special hasn't been greenlighted by executives yet. As a result, the crew is unable to begin production, and the special's release year is delayed infinitely until further notice.[3]

Trivia
- The special was planned to be done as an appreciation to the Brazilian fans.
- The reason behind the special not being greenlighted is unknown. Fred Lenoir, one of the writers, theorized in an Instagram comment reply that "maybe [the rest of the production crew] were just being careful or making sure the Rio [special] gets good animation & stuff".[8]
- In July 2022, it was announced on Licensing Russia that a TV spin-off featuring the Brazilian hero was planned and was slated for a 2025 release.[12]
- On April 28, 2024, Thomas confirmed on Twitter that he wrote a pitch bible for the spin-off. However, because the Rio special hasn't been greenlighted yet, it caused the spin-off to get delayed before eventually being rejected by executives.[3]
