Miraculous Chibi (previously known as ZAG Chibi) is a spin-off comedy mini-series released on YouTube.[1][2] The series consists of 90-second slapstick comedic shorts, with no dialogue.[3]
The series premiered on August 31, 2018, on the official Miraculous Chibi YouTube channel.[4] It was initially run from August 31, 2018, to October 26, 2018, with a total of seven webisodes released. However, after the release of "Scarybug", the series was cancelled.
On September 22, 2023, five years after the initial run of the web series, it was reported that Miraculous Chibi has been revived for two new webisodes that were supposed to be released in October 2023 but were delayed to November 2023.[5]
On November 17, 2023, the Miraculous Chibi revival run was officially confirmed with the release of sneak peeks for two new webisodes[6][7] that were released a day later.
Description
When the heroes aren't on a mission, Cat Noir jumps at every opportunity to try and make Ladybug fall in love with him. But what he doesn't know is that she only has eyes for the handsome Adrien! Will he still manage to seduce Ladybug with his plans, each more unpromising and funny than the other?
Thirty shorts are expected to be made. Current episodes focus only on Ladybug and Cat Noir, but future episodes will feature the world of Miraculous as a whole and will not necessarily be about the Miraculous heroes themselves.

Trivia
- The chibi series was originally announced to be canon to the Quantic Universe on the official Miraculous Ladybug Tumblr. However, this is later retconned by character designer Angie Nasca.[17][18]
- The chibi series being a separate universe makes sense due to its premise heavily containing slapstick, characters becoming comic reliefs, and not everything being taken seriously. For example, despite akumatized villains being threats, neither Ladybug nor Cat Noir are seen fighting Stormy Weather in "Panic at the Park" and she behaves like a nuisance at best.
- In addition, their Quantic Universe counterparts are officially dating in their civilian identities as of Season 5. The dynamic between the two heroes in the chibi universe doesn't change to reflect their main counterpart's new relationship status; Chibi Adrien is oblivious to Chibi Marinette's feelings since he's in love with Chibi Ladybug.
- The show was first announced by Jeremy Zag on his Instagram on March 5, 2017.[1]
- The drawing with the announcement was done by Angie Nasca, the character designer for this show.
- On March 14, 2017, a 3D render of Chibi Ladybug was released on Zag's Instagram.[19]
- Another 3D render of chibi Ladybug's chibi form was posted on March 31, 2017, along with an image of chibi Pixie Girl from Fairy Force.[20] An image of Cat Noir's chibi form in 3D was later released on April 7, 2017.
- The Ladybug and Cat Noir 3D models were designed by Axel Blanc as references to produce the art figures that were later released at the ZAG Store.
- The 3D chibi designs were based on Angie Nasca's design for the chibi emojis from the ZAG Heroez sticker app.
- An animatic for the episode "Rooftop Dinner" was first revealed during a Miraculous live event on May 17, 2017.[21]
- On August 31, 2017, a part of "Fatal Posy" was released by Jeremy Zag on Instagram, involving Cat Noir stopping a giant flower from attacking an unaware Ladybug.[22]
- A fully animated clip of "Catnip Fragrance" featuring cats chasing Cat Noir was released on Jeremy Zag's Instagram on January 21, 2018.[23]
- Production for Miraculous: Tales from Paris has ceased to focus on the chibi series.[24]
- The first seven webisodes only featured Ladybug and Cat Noir, with Adrien appearing in pictures. Starting in the revival series, their civilian identities as well as more characters appear.
- Despite appearing in concept art, Hawk Moth, Tikki, Plagg, Alya, Chloé, and Nino haven't appeared in the initial run of webisodes. But Chloé eventually appears in the revival series.
- None of the webisodes have spoken dialogues and it, instead, has the characters making vocal effects. The vocal effects were provided by their French voice actors.
- Because of a lack of spoken dialogues, the French voice actors can be heard in many international releases of the web series.
- The first seven webisodes were all later released on the Disney Now website in the USA on April 11, 2021.[25]
- This is the first piece of Miraculous Ladybug media that has a revival after its initial cancellation. In this case, the web series has been revived after a five-year hiatus between "Scarybug" and two new webisodes.
- The web series was initially cancelled which resulted in it being put on a five-year hiatus after the release of "Scarybug". But it's implied that production for the revival occurred so it could promote a recent line of chibi-themed figures and playsets produced by Playmate Toys.
- Because the web series has been revived with more webisodes confirmed to be released, it's unknown if the revival will continue the original plan to have thirty webisodes total.
- Various merchandise for Miraculous Chibi were released. This includes plushies and playsets manufactured by Playmate Toys, art figures and pins on the official ZAG store, pillows manufactured by Zag Play, and a Burger King kids meal promotion in August 2018.
- Interestingly, the merchandise featured chibi forms of Rena Rouge, Carapace, Queen Bee, Hawk Moth, and Vesperia, despite none of these Miraculous holders appearing during the initial run of the web series.
- The revival features a lot of changes from the original run:
- As part of the rebranding for the web series, the logo has changed from "ZAG Chibi" to "Miraculous Chibi".
- The webisodes are now animated by 2 Minutes, the name of a French animation studio, instead of Digital eMation.
- Some webisodes feature the civilian life of Marinette and Adrien instead of their superhero identities. More characters, like akumatized villains, are added to the series instead of solely featuring the main duo.
- The opening sequence and end credits have been updated, with the former showing both the civilian and superhero identities of the main duo.
- While there isn't official confirmation yet, the back of the package for the currently-released Playmate Toys playsets featured screenshots for two unseen webisodes of the revival run:
- The "Boulangerie: Cakes & A Crush" playset features a screenshot of Marinette giving Adrien a cake at the bakery.
- The "Amusement Park: Ride and a Rescue" playset features a screenshot of Ladybug fighting Stormy Weather in front of a Ferris wheel.[15]
