Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is an American comic and graphic novel series published by Action Lab Comics and ZAG Entertainment. Series overview[]
Marinette is the sweetest girl in Paris. With a big crush on a boy at school, a big dream of becoming a fashion designer, and a big problem with being totally awkward, she's just your average teenage girl, right? Did we mention she's also the crime fighting superhero, Ladybug?
Becoming Ladybug is a complicated process! First, Marinette needs a "Kwami", which is a tiny magical assistant (hers is named Tikki). She also needs a "Miraculous," which is a magical accessory (hers is a pair of earrings). Tikki uses the Miraculous to transform Marinette. But her Ladybug superpowers only work for a limited time!
When Hawk Moth uses his mind-controlling, moth-like creatures called an akuma to turn people into baddies, it's up to Ladybug to capture them and save the day! Well, she gets a little help from her superhero friend, Cat Noir... but she insists she doesn't need him. If only she knew Cat Noir's true identity – her crush, Adrien! Will Ladybug and Cat Noir be able to balance their double lives and keep Paris safe?
Will they ever find out each other's true identity, or who's behind Hawk Moth's mask? Until then – there's a whole city of baddies to defeat... SPOTS ON, CLAWS OUT![1]

Trivia[]
- As of 2021, Action Lab no longer has the licensing rights to publish any more Miraculous Ladybug comics in the USA. It was later announced on June 13, 2023, that Mad Cave Studios officially owns the licensing rights and they would publish a series of graphic novels starting in 2024.[71]
- Because of this, it results in only the episodes from the first and second seasons of the TV series to be adapted for this comic series. However, because the second half of Season 3 finished its worldwide premiere in late 2019, it's unknown if there were plans for Action Lab to adapt the Season 3 episodes before the cancellation of the comic series.
- With Action Lab no longer having the licensing rights, all of the issues from this series have been out of print. This also affects the digital releases for the issues since, as of 2022, all of them have been removed across digital platforms.
- Despite this comic series containing adaptations of existing episodes from the TV series, the printed edition of the issue covers unofficially designated it as part of the Actionverse.
- Because Miraculous Adventures is also unofficially designated as part of the Actionverse but is part of a "comic book universe" for Miraculous Ladybug, it can be interpreted that the events of the first and second seasons are part of both the TV series continuity and the Action Lab comic continuity.
- After the release of the comic adaptation of "Reflekta", Action Lab started releasing the issues exclusively on digital platforms. Thus, they were never released physically unlike the previous issues.
- Interestingly, before the switch to fully having the issues be exclusively released digitally, there were images of the planned print covers for "The Collector" and "Prime Queen" as well as a Cover B variation for "The Puppeteer", "Antibug", and "Volpina". These images were first shown on Previews World, but they have since been removed.[72][73][74][75][76][77]
- Despite the switch to releasing digital versions of the issues, Action Lab still released the print versions of both the volumes and the "Santa Claws" standalone graphic novel.
- As a result of the comic series being no longer available on digital platforms, the only way for readers to access the comic adaptations of "The Puppeteer", "Antibug", "Volpina", and the Season 2 episodes is from the print version of the volumes.
- During the run of the comic adaptation of Season 1 episodes, Action Lab would release the individual issues before releasing the volumes.
- However, once the series started releasing the comic adaptation of Season 2 episodes digitally, it was the other way around. Action Lab started releasing the print version of the volumes before releasing the digital version of the individual issues that were part of said volumes.
- There are three exceptions for this practice. For the releases of "Zombizou" to "Frozer", Action Lab released both the volumes and the individual issues on the same day.
- However, once the series started releasing the comic adaptation of Season 2 episodes digitally, it was the other way around. Action Lab started releasing the print version of the volumes before releasing the digital version of the individual issues that were part of said volumes.
- Even though the special episodes ("Ladybug & Cat Noir", "Stoneheart", and "Santa Claws") are part of the series, they were adapted into two standalone graphic novels instead.
- The only episodes from Seasons 1 to 2 that were never adapted for this series are "Catalyst" and "Mayura". As revealed on a website called Major Spoilers, it was originally announced to be released as the third and final standalone graphic novel in December 2019. However, it was replaced with the twentieth and final volume of the series "Season Two - Heroes' Day Malediktator".[78]
- Interestingly, the website also revealed that "Season Two - Queen’s Battle" was originally announced to contain three issues with the inclusion of a comic adaptation of "Malediktator". But after the release date was delayed to March 2020, "Malediktator" has its own volume which includes a reprint of "Replay" for its second story instead.
- If "Season Two - Queen's Battle" had included "Malediktator", then it would have made it the only Season 2 volume to contain three stories instead of two.
- On Amazon USA and Target, there's a product listing for "Season Two - Heroes' Day Malediktator" with the correct ISBN identification and the product description mentioning "Malediktator" and "Replay". Unfortunately, the listing shows the wrong book title and product image. Instead of the cover for the twentieth volume which was officially released, the listing mistakenly shows a cover for the cancelled physical release of "Season Two - Heroes' Day".[79][80]
- Because of the product listing mistake and the final volume is called "Season Two - Heroes' Day Malediktator", it implies that the decision to not adapt the two-part "Heroes' Day" episodes occurred at the last minute and Action Lab mistakenly forgot to exclude "Heroes' Day" from the volume title.
- Several international countries have published a few issues in their native languages:
- An official Spanish edition of the first nine comic issues was published by Beascoa in Spain. It ran from April 6, 2017, to February 15, 2018.[81]
- An official Polish edition of three comic issues was published by Edipresse Poland. It ran from August 7, 2018, to December 14, 2018. The Polish edition doesn't release the comics in chronological order like the original USA edition. Rather, the chronological order is: "Timebreaker", "Princess Fragrance", and "Antibug".
- An official Russian edition of the first six comic issues was published by AST in Russia. It ran from November 20, 2019, to February 18, 2020. There were three books released, each of them containing two issues.[82][83][84]
- The first twelve issues initially don't have the episode title on the cover. But starting with "Princess Fragrance", the remaining issues have the episode title to let readers identify what episodes the issue adapted.
- Interestingly, early cover designs of the "Princess Fragrance" issue don't have the episode title.
- The comic adaptation of "Stormy Weather", "Lady Wifi", "The Evillustrator", and "Princess Fragrance" are the only issues for Season 1 that don't have a cover variation that featured a screenshot from the respective episode they adapted from.
- Nearly all the cover variations of "Stormy Weather" contain promotional artwork, while Cover C contains a screenshot of Hawk Moth from "The Evillustrator".
- All the cover variations of "Lady Wifi" contain promotional artwork.
- Cover A is the only cover variation for "The Evillustrator" that features promotional artwork and not a screenshot.
- Even though Cover B for "Princess Fragrance" contains a screenshot from the episode it adapted, Cover A contains a screenshot of Ladybug from "Lady Wifi".
- Sometimes the print versions of the comic issues for the Season 1 episodes contain two cover variations that can be placed side-to-side to form a complete image.
- For "Stormy Weather" and "Lady Wifi", their respective Covers A and B form a completed promotional artwork.
- For "Copycat", "Timebreaker", and "Volpina", their respective Covers A and B form a completed screenshot from the respective episodes they adapted.
- Unfortunately, because "Volpina" is never released physically and only Cover A can be shown on digital platforms, this caused the image to be incomplete.
- "Akmuatized!" and "Bye Bye, Little Butterfly!" are the only volumes to have an alternative cover variation for their digital release.[85]
- The first volume is the only one that contains an original cover design variation. Action Lab Comics released an exclusive San Diego Comic-Con 2016 cover for the first volume on June 15, 2016. The cover was designed by Tony Fleecs who would later design several cover variations for Miraculous Adventures.[86]
- The pages of each book feature screenshots from the series. Likewise, the covers are decorated with both screenshots and promotional art from the television show.
- Rather than following the episode order of the US or any other international release, the series releases its chapters independently.
- This is the only comic series published by Action Lab Comics to mainly contain comic adaptations of existing episodes instead of containing original stories.
- Despite its second story technically isn't an adaptation of an episode, the twentieth volume "Season Two - Heroes' Day Malediktator" contains a reprint of "Replay" from the first issue of Miraculous Adventures.
- The first volume is the only one that doesn't have an official title. Instead, it is simply called "Miraculous Volume One".
- Interestingly, it is the only volume that has a designated number on the book spine for its physical release.
- The titles of the second-to-eighth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth volumes are based on a repeated catchphrase from the TV series.
- The back cover of the individual issues for Season 1 contains an ad for the Throwdown! card game that was also produced by Action Lab.
- The ISBN for each of the issues for Season 1 begins with "702382691349" and ends with a designated number that represents the issue number and/or the cover variation of an issue.
