“ | The Earrings of the Ladybug, which provide the power of creation... | ” |
The Ladybug Miraculous is a pair of earrings that, whenever Tikki inhabits them, transform the wearer into a ladybug-themed superhuman with the power of Creation.
To activate the earrings, its user must speak the transformation phrase: "Spots On". To deactivate the earrings, its user must speak the detransformation phrase: "Spots Off". To activate the earrings for evil purposes, the user must speak the transformation phrase: "Blots On". To deactivate the earrings, the user must speak the detransformation phrase: "Blots Off".
The earrings are currently owned by Marinette Dupain-Cheng, who uses them to transform into Ladybug.
Moreover, "Miraculous Paris" revealed other parallel universes and the users of the Ladybug Miraculous in them: an alternate version of Alya Césaire who uses the earrings to transform into Scarabella, and an alternate version of Adrien Agreste who uses the Miraculous to become Mister Bug.
Also in "Miraculous Paris", to prevent Monarch from obtaining the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous from other universes, Betterfly sent a kamiko into Ladybug's earrings, causing them to become the kamikotized object of Ladybiquity.
Appearance
In charged mode, the Ladybug Miraculous is a pair of domed stud earrings with silver bezels. The domes are red with five black spots in a quincunx pattern. Their shape and pattern resemble a ladybug's elytron. If a minor is using the earrings and they've activated Lucky Charm, it'll start running out of power, making a beeping sound with one spot flashing before disappearing every minute as an indication (one spot is equivalent to one minute) Marinette (or another Ladybug Miraculous holder) has left before they de-transform.
- When worn by Chronobug, the earrings are yellow with five white spots in a quincunx pattern.
In its activated mode, it's the same as it's charged mode with exception of the domes being completely red.
- When worn by Chronobug, the earrings are yellow.
In its camouflaged mode, the Ladybug Miraculous changes form depending on who wears it:
- When worn by Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the earring are the same as in their charged and activated modes, but the domes are black.
- As a Kamikotized object, they grew bigger and were colored purplish-black with the spots glowing white, resembling a pair of either earmuffs or headphones.[1]
- When worn by Adrien Agreste, the earrings were silver and flatter.[2]
- When worn by Alya Césaire, the earrings were orange and flatter.[3]
Abilities
When it's used to transform, the Ladybug Miraculous grants its holder a ladybug themed costume that they truly desire as well as incredible superhuman powers of strength, speed, agility, and endurance. Its special weapon is a yo-yo, which can be utilized as a weapon, a communicator, and a rebreather. Its special superpower is called Lucky Charm, it gives its user the ability to create a useful arbitrary object in order to obtain their goal, like defeating a supervillain. However, if the Ladybug Miraculous holder is a child, using Lucky Charm will force them to de-transform after five minutes. An evil holder can override this and use Lucky Charm indefinitely, but at a great cost.
The Ladybug Miraculous can also purify anything "corrupt or malignant".[4]
Using the yo-yo, the holder traps the infection, an infected creature, or an infected object, so the yo-yo cures it. When the yo-yo opens, the infection is gone, and if there was an infected animal or object, it is healed or clean. The person can use the Miraculous' purification power on various things, like akumas created with the Butterfly Miraculous or an unknown black substance, as seen in fourth issue of Miraculous Adventures.
The other power is the Miraculous Ladybug. If there is damage caused by a supervillain, Cat Noir's Cataclysm, or any other Miraculous superpower, no matter the amount of damage, the holder throws the Lucky Charm object in the air and says Miraculous [the hero's name of the Ladybug Miraculous holder][5], the Lucky Charm turns into a swarm of magic ladybugs with restoration power that repair all damage from the recent crisis in an instant. The restoration power is also capable of healing those who are hurt by supervillains or their own powers, even going as far as to bring people back from non-existence.
If the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses are used together along with a special invocation, their holder will achieve the absolute power to alter reality to their wishes. However, because the universe must maintain balance, every action has an equal and opposite reaction; for instance, a wish to become human would result in someone else losing their humanity.
In "Troublemaker", Cat Noir suggested that when Ladybug lost an earring it weakened her powers but it's unknown if that is completely true.
Any user of the Ladybug Miraculous can use any Lucky Charm to summon Miraculous Ladybug even if they didn't summon the object, as seen with Ladybug in "Sandboy" and "Deflagration".
In "Mr. Pigeon 72", it's revealed that Ladybug Miraculous holders' powers are limited only by the limits they put on themselves and can develop new powers simply by allowing themselves to do so. Once Marinette Dupain-Cheng|Ladybug learned of this, she invented a new superpower for the Ladybug Miraculous: the ability to create magical charms to ward away akumas from anyone who is wearing them, protecting them from future akumatizations.
With this new power, whenever she summons a Lucky Charm, her costume gets upgraded, and it lasts until she throws the object to summon the Miraculous Ladybug. Once this is done, she is able to conjure a magical charm from her yo-yo.
The earrings also have the ability to give the wielder the costume they truly desire.
Power Ups
After Tikki consumes one of several special potions or a food made with one, and the Ladybug Miraculous holder transforms, or if they consume a special potion or a food made with them after they've transformed, they are able to unlock power-ups, an additional specific ability granted by each potion. So far, only seven potions have been shown, each with a unique color:
- The green potion transforms Tikki into "Aqua Tikki" and grants its user the ability to breathe underwater and improves their swimming capability with flippers added on their feet.
- The cyan potion transforms Tikki into "Stalac Tikki" and grants its user the ability to resist cold temperatures and to move freely on ice with ice skates on their feet.
- The purple potion transforms Tikki into an unknown space form and grants it user the ability to move freely and breathe in high altitudes and space.
- A red potion that grants unknown powers.
- A yellow potion that grants unknown powers.
- An orange potion that grants unknown powers.
- A pink potion that grants unknown powers.

History
The Ladybug Miraculous was created thousands of years ago by an Unnamed mage.
Marinette unified the Ladybug with the Mouse, Dragon, Bee, Horse, Rabbit, and Cat Miraculous to transform into, Multibug, Dragon Bug, Ladybee, Pegabug, Pennybug, and Bug Noire.
In "Reflekdoll" and "Passion", the earrings are used by Adrien Agreste who used them to transform into Mister Bug, making him the second male Ladybug Miraculous superhero.
In "Hack-San", Transmission", and "Revelation", the earrings are also used by Alya Césaire who used them to transform into Scarabella.
In "Deflagration", Gabriel unifies the Ladybug Miraculous with the Butterfly Miraculous to become Monarch Bug, but he later lost them to the Resistance so that Marinette could reclaim them to become Ladybug again.

Trivia
- In the theme song, the Ladybug Miraculous are in the raised center of the Mother Box with the Cat Miraculous, both of their sections creating a yin-yang symbol inside the box.
- The Ladybug Miraculous is in the yin section (like in every yin-yang symbol there's also some of each in the other). Some of the things that yin represents are coldness, darkness, passiveness, and intuition (which interprets the Cat Miraculous).
- Ladybugs are known to be symbols of good luck, resilience, and love.
- In "Volpina", the legacy of Ladybug Miraculous holders dates all the way back to Ancient China.
- The Ladybug Miraculous and the Goat Miraculous are so far the only known Miraculouses that have two or more pieces, all of which need to be worn for them to work.[6]
- As seen in "The Dark Owl", if one of the earrings is taken, the suit will slowly dematerialize, though the yo-yo remains.
- When the left earring was taken, the dematerialization began with the right side of the mask and the right hand, showing Marinette's bare skin.
- As seen in "The Dark Owl", if one of the earrings is taken, the suit will slowly dematerialize, though the yo-yo remains.
- In "Troublemaker", the left earring was taken, and the dematerialization began with the left side of the mask, both forearms, and both shins. Additionally, a high pitch beeping was emitted from the earrings. As the suit dematerialized, Marinette's body, excluding the face, was covered with pink energy. When the earring was returned, the missing parts completed themselves, and the beeping stopped.
- In the early concept for the series, including before kwamis were created, the earrings gave pure luck to its wearer. However, as Thomas Astruc explained, "it only works when [the wearer uses] it for others. Otherwise, it backfires".[7]
- Because broadcasters believed pure luck as power was "too abstract for kids", Thomas figured out a different superpower, Lucky Charm.[8]
- The design of the earrings was different in the Ladybug PV and early CGI animation. In them, the earrings had gold outlines around the edges of the earring and the black spots.
- In "The Pharaoh", Ladybug gives Pharaoh a fake pair of earrings that more closely resemble the earlier design.
- Then again, for a staged battle for Mr Damoclès as The Owl in "The Dark Owl", Marinette creates a fake replica of the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses, which she later used as Ladybug to trick Mr. Damoclès' akumatized form and Hawk Moth.
- The Ladybug Miraculous is sometimes called The Earrings of the Ladybug.
- Thomas Astruc stated that he might include previous Ladybugs into the show if he finds a good story for them.[9]
- Like for Khepri as La Déesse Coccinelle in "The Pharaoh", when Tikki mention the past Ladybugs in "Befana", Jeanne d'Arc as Scarlet Fate, who appears in the present due to the side-effect of Sass' Second Chance in "Ephemeral" as well as in spirit memory in "Reunion" and the Ancient European Ladybug Miraculous holder in "Feast".
- In the NYCC 2016, the Ladybug Miraculous seems to have other magical abilities. These abilities seem to be related to objects known as Stones and Pearls.[10]
- Stone of the Sun - Flying power
- Pearl of the Mysteries - Infinite Lucky Charms
- Pearl of the Heart - Cure the akumatized
- Pearl of the Sea - Breathe and swim underwater
- Stone of the Moon - Fly and breathe in space
- However, Thomas later confirmed on Twitter that the Pearls and Stones are a concept that won't be featured in the show anymore.[11] The Pearl of the Sea power was replaced by the green Miraculous potion and the Stone of the Moon power was also replaced by the purple Miraculous potion.
- Micazoyolin is the first male known to have wielded the Ladybug Miraculous, Adrien Agreste is the second known male to have wielded the Ladybug Miraculous when he used it to turn temporarily into Mister Bug after an incident causes a mix up of the Miraculous in "Reflekdoll". Gabriel became the third known male to wear the Ladybug Miraculous when he unified it with the Butterfly Miraculous, becoming Monarch Bug in "Deflagration".
- Marinette is the only Ladybug Miraculous holder who's also a guardian, due to the rule against guardians wearing Miraculous.
- The Ladybug Miraculous users are the only ones who can purify akumas and amoks.
- The Ladybug Miraculous is the second Miraculous that has been unified with the most Miraculouses at seven: the Mouse, Dragon, Bee, Horse, Rabbit, Butterfly, and Cat Miraculouses.
- The Ladybug Miraculous is also the Miraculous with the most seen unifications with eight: Marinette as Multimouse unified the Mouse with the Ladybug to become Multibug in "Kwamibuster", as Ladybug, she also unified the Ladybug with the Dragon to become Dragonbug in "Miracle Queen", the Bee to become Ladybee in "Optigami, "the Horse to become Pegabug in "Sentibubbler", the Horse and Rabbit to become Pennybug in "Strikeback", the Butterfly to become Ladyfly in "Miraculous Paris", and the Cat to become Bug Noire in "The Last Day", Gabriel as Monarch also unified the Butterfly with the Ladybug to become Monarch Bug in "Deflagration".
- It's unknown if all Ladybug Miraculous users were chosen to stop evil Miraculous users like Marinette with Hawk Moth.
- In "Reunion", what is mentioned above is not always the case as Scarlet Fate and Dark Grimalkin were tricked into fighting each other when they figured that out they stopped fighting. Not just that, but Scarlet Fate was chosen to wield the Ladybug Miraculous in the first place to level the scales of the war between England (that had a Miraculous holder as a champion) and France (that had no Miraculous holder).
- This means that some of the Ladybug Miraculous holders were chosen to balance the actions of other holders, being it for evil or not: Scarlet Fate to counter Dark Grimalkin's power of Destruction (possibly to prevent it from going too far) and Ladybug to counter Hawk Moth's akumatized villains (as only her power could purify akumas and fix all the damages caused by them).
- In "Cat Blanc", the Ladybug Miraculous was destroyed alongside Marinette due to the titular akumatized supervillain's Mega Cataclysm hitting her and Ladybug from the past accidentally causing her to disintegrate in an alternate timeline. However, the timeline was then fixed by Ladybug from the past, making so that it was never destroyed in the current timeline.
- As of "Mr. Pigeon 72", Marinette is the first Ladybug Miraculous holder to develop new superpowers, let alone figure out that her power is limitless.
- It's the seventh Miraculous used for evil, even if briefly and/or in an alternate reality, following the Butterfly Miraculous by Gabriel as Hawk Moth in season 1, 2, and 3 and as Shadow Moth in Season 4, the Bee Miraculous briefly by Chloé as Queen Bee when she was akumatized into Queen Wasp in "Queen Wasp" and "Heroes' Day" and when she was akumatized into Miracle Queen in the episode of the same name, the Fox Miraculous by Alya as Rena Rouge when she was akumatized into Rena Rage in "Heroes' Day", the Turtle Miraculous by Nino as Carapace when he was akumatized into Shell Shock in "Heroes' Day" and by Sentinino as Senticarapace in "Optigami", the Peacock Miraculous by Nathalie as Mayura in the episode of the same name, "Reflekdoll", "Miraculer", "Feast", "Ladybug", and "Battle of the Miraculous" followed by Shadow Moth, the Cat Miraculous in the alternate future by Adrien as Cat Noir when he was akumatized into Cat Blanc in the episode of the same name and by Gabriel as Shadow Noir in an alternative timeline in "Ephemeral", and the Eagle Miraculous by Mike Rochip as Miraclonizer in "Miraculous New York".
- Alongside the Ox Miraculous, it is unknown if the wearer actually needs to have pierced ears in order to wear the Miraculous, or if the pins just pass through the wearers ears magically, though since Adrien and Gabriel (despite not having ear piercings) were having no trouble wearing the earrings in "Reflekdoll", "Passion", "Deflagration" and "Re-creation", it's most likely not necessary for either of the jewels.
