Description[]
Rising from the confluence of the Hengliao Jing and Damao Gang in Shanghai's Songjiang District, the Huangpu heads west before turning completely north and meandering through Shanghai with an average width of four hundred meters, bordering in particular the Bund (left bank) and the Lujiazui (right bank).
The river eventually joins the Yangzi Jiang, fifty kilometers from the latter's mouth in the East China Sea.
Along its course, the Huangpu is flanked by numerous tributaries (left banks), the most important of which is the Suzhou River (simplified Chinese: 苏州河; traditional Chinese: 蘇州河; pinyin: sūzhōu hé) whose confluence is located north of the Bund, more precisely at Hangpu Park.
The river is also divided into several tributaries that pass through Shanghai and flow into Hangzhou Bay and the East China Sea.
