Gabriel Agreste/Re-Verse is the Butterfly Miraculous holder.

Forgive my intrusion, young lady. I am Betterfly. I need someone to lead me to the holders of the Miraculous of the Ladybug and the Black Cat in your world.

—Betterfly to Marinette, "Miraculous Paris"

Click here to see quotes from Gabriel Agreste/Re-Verse.

Gabriel Agreste is the tritagonist of Miraculous World: Paris - Tales of Shadybug and Claw Noir. He is the heroic counterpart of Gabriel Agreste from the Re-Verse. When Nooroo inhabits the Butterfly Miraculous, he transforms into Betterfly (Hesperia in the French dub), a butterfly-themed superhero with the power of Transmission. He is also the leader of the Resistance.

In "Miraculous Paris", he crossed the multiverse to seek help from Ladybug and Cat Noir to fight Shadybug and Claw Noir, who came to their world to steal the Butterfly Miraculous from him. After his enemies allied themselves with Ladybug's own nemesis, Monarch, and set up a trap, Ladybug comes up with a plan to counter it. Borrowing his Butterfly Miraculous to become Ladyfly, she kamikotized him into Guardian Angel, an angel-themed superhero with the power to protect his allies from any attack. After Ladybug and Cat Noir managed to reform Shadybug and Claw Noir, who became superheroes, the latter two joined Betterfly's team to fight the Supreme and bring peace to their universe.

Appearance

Physical appearance

Because he is Gabriel Agreste's counterpart in another universe, he has a similar appearance to him, but with a middle part hairstyle.

Civilian attire

He wears a light blue vest with white buttons over a cream-colored dress shirt, a light blue violet ascot tie with a pattern of tiny lilac triangles, light khaki dress pants, cream-colored dress shoes with brown laces, and light gray round glasses. He also has a silver wedding ring on his left ring finger.

As Betterfly

Betterfly wears a light purple dress shirt, over which he wears a dark indigo jacket with lighter purple butterfly-shaped lapel-like adorn coming from the central button of his jacket. He also wears dark indigo pants and dress shoes without laces, purple gloves, a dark purple butterfly-shaped mask over his face, and a light purple cavalier shoulder cape that resembles butterfly wings, and his hairstyle is white middle part.

As Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel was similar to Gabriel in appearance, but with his body and clothes appearing to be made entirely of white feathers. He was seen wearing a tailcoat and had big white wings and completely white eyes. His kamikotized object, his glasses, seemed to be the only part of his form not made of feather.

Personality

Miraculous World - Paris Special 015

After his wife's death, Gabriel decided to become a superhero and use his powers to bring hope to his universe.

Much like his counterpart, Gabriel used to be willing to go to great lengths to get what he wanted. In order to make his dream a reality, he joined the Supreme and stole two Miraculous: the Butterfly and the Peacock. However, because of his misuse of their powers, he lost his wife. This event had a great impact on Gabriel who decided to use the power of the Butterfly for good, creating superheroes to fight the Supreme and bring hope to his world.

However, unlike his counterpart, Gabriel was able to move on from his wife's death and never considered in finding a way to bring her back. Not just that, but he is able to learn from his mistakes.

Miraculous World - Paris Special 541

Gabriel as Betterfly became ashamed when remembering how his misuse of the Miraculous hurted the people he loves.

As Betterfly, unlike Hawk Moth/Shadow Moth/Monarch, he embodies all the ideals of hope and freedom he stands for to the heart. It is his belief that powers must be shared to the world and used for the greater good, a lesson that he learned in the hard way. Remaining true to the purpose of his Miraculous, he only uses his powers to kamikotize someone that willingly wants to help him, instead of preying on those with negative emotions or on innocent civilians. Even with his allies, unless it's a life or death situation, he asks them for permission before releasing his kamiko. An example is when he saves Marinette, as he doesn't try to kamikotize her to help him fight Shadybug and Claw Noir, despite the clear disadvantage he has.

This is also evident in his fighting style, which also contrasts with that of his counterpart's. Unlike Hawk Moth/Monarch, who prefers to remain in his lair and let his akumatized villains fight for him, only fighting his enemies directly when necessary, Betterfly is more opened as he is willing to fight his battles than just watch from a distance or manipulate everyone to his advantage. Even those he kamikotizes are seen to possess powers that serve mostly as support, like Ubiquity's ability to transport him to an universe where he can get allies or Celesticat's ability to emanate a blinding light and flight to help them escape Shadybug and Claw Noir.

Miraculous World - Paris Special 534

Betterfly became amazed and hopeful after seeing the Quantic Universe and its heroes.

Betterfly always prioritizes the safety of the civilians and his allies, even before his own mission to defeat The Supreme and his followers, seen how he went to put Marinette in a safe place, as soon he heard from Ubiquity that Shadybug and Claw Noir were coming, instead of taking that time to prepare an ambush. Also similar to Ladybug and Cat Noir, he was also caring and considerate even to his enemies as he tried to convince Shadybug and Claw Noir that it wasn't too late for them to change likely wanting to save them from the negative effects of their jewels. Without realizing it he also felt great empathy, unlike his counterpart, as he like Ladybug and Cat Noir knew what it felt like to be hunted and lonely.

Betterfly is also very emotional and passionate about his job as a superhero. He is very dedicated to his duty to his world in such way that it actually made him have a troubled relationship with his son, who believes that his father doesn't have time for him so he can keep making clothes to help him move on from Émilie's death. But despite his estranged relationship with his son being painful to him, he knows it's the only way to keep him safe. After coming to Ladybug and Cat Noir's world and seeing how different it is from his, Betterfly became very emotional, as that only gave him more hope that his dream of turning his world into something as marvelous is still possible.

Abilities

As a civilian

Miraculous World - Paris Special 004

Gabriel's fashion designs.

In the theme song like his counterpart he has skills of the fashion industry.

As Betterfly

Miraculous World - Paris Special 419

Betterfly shooting a Kamiko to Cat Noir.

Like his villainous counterpart, he can use the power of the Butterfly Miraculous to give superpowers to individuals. However, unlike him, who can create Akumas to turn people into Supervillains, Betterfly creates Kamikos, which are able to kamikotize them into superheroes. It would appear that Betterfly is able to shoot the kamikos directly to his targets, instead of just directing them and let them fly naturally to them. He can also undo any transformation originated from the Butterfly Miraculous, by purifying the butterfly used on it, being it a kamiko or an akuma.

As Guardian Angel

Miraculous World - Paris Special 845

Guardian Angel protecting Cat Noir and Ladyfly by marking their backs with his wings.

Like a real angel, he had wings that allowed him to fly. However, his real power was his ability to protect his allies from any attack. To activate his power, he involved his allies with his wings, marking their backs with wing marks and then disappearing. As long his allies had his mark, they became protected from any attack that may have landed on them. When they were attacked, a swarm of white feathers were released from the mark and involved the assaulter completely, immobilizing them and putting them out of combat.

Relationships

Adrien Agreste/Claw Noir/Paw Noir

Miraculous World - Paris Special 013

Gabriel reluctantly distanced himself from his son.

Similar to his counterpart, Gabriel had a distant relationship with his son after his wife's death, due to Adrien believing him to have moved on too quickly by designing clothes and not caring about his grief.

However, unknown to Adrien, Gabriel actually was distant due to his superhero duties as Betterfly, fighting against the Supreme. As seen in the special's opening, Gabriel clearly regrets being distant from his son, but does it to keep him safe from harm and for a better future for him and all Paris.

Miraculous World - Paris Special 371

Betterfly was horrified when seeing Claw Noir forcing Cat Noir to cataclysm him.

Unknown to Gabriel, Adrien was also entrusted with a Miraculous by the Supreme, who took advantage of his grief, and fought him as his enemy Claw Noir, who wanted to steal his Miraculous for the Supreme and get saved from his affliction. Despite this, Betterfly tried to convince him to join the Resistance, stating that the Supreme was manipulating him and that it was possible to have a better world. However, Claw Noir refused to listen and Betterfly became horrified when Claw Noir forced Cat Noir to Cataclysm him.

After Claw Noir reforms and becomes the superhero Paw Noir, he joins Betterfly and the Resistance, much to latter's pleasure who welcomed him to his team.

Shadybug/Ladybug

Gabriel never met alternate Marinette personally.

Miraculous World - Paris Special 319

Betterfly pleaded with Shadybug to join the Resistance while stopping her from taking his Miraculous.

However, he fought against her as a follower of the Supreme: Shadybug, who wanted to steal his Miraculous and relentlessly attacked him with her Lucky Charm weapons. Despite this, Betterfly tried to convince her to join the Resistance, stating that the Supreme was manipulating her and that it was possible to have a better world, which Shadybug briefly considered before trying to steal his Miraculous, only to fail by Ladybug and Cat Noir's intervention.

Miraculous World - Paris Special 1249

Betterfly reassured a reformed Shadybug (alongside Paw Noir) that they're stronger now that they are a team.

After Shadybug reforms and becomes the superheroine Ladybug, she decides to join Betterfly and the Resistance, much to the former's pleasure, who welcomed her and Paw Noir and became a superhero team and reassured her when she became worried of the Supreme's reaction to her defection, stating they are stronger as they are now a team.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug/Ladyfly

Miraculous World - Paris Special 161

Betterfly apologizes to Marinette for his sudden appearance.

Betterfly first met Marinette when crossing over to her universe due to Ubiquity connecting by said universe's Alya who was at a sleepover with Marinette. When seeing her surprised by his sudden appearance, Betterfly apologized to her, and asked for her help to find Ladybug and Cat Noir, unaware he was talking to Ladybug in her civilian form, but Marinette unsure to trust him lied to him she didn't know where to find the heroes, claiming to be only a normal girl, much to Betterfly's disappointment, but was cut short when he was alerted by Ubiquity that Shadybug and Claw Noir were pursuing him, and not wanting innocent people to be hurt, he carried Marinette away to safety.

Miraculous World - Paris Special 213

Betterfly carried Marinette away to protect her from Shadybug and Claw Noir.

Once safe in the Eiffel Tower, Betterfly apologized to Marinette for the situation and told her that no one should get hurt for a fight that isn't theirs and when receiving his purified Kamiko, he expressed confusion when Marinette asked if it was an Akuma.

When the rogue Miraculous holders arrived, with Claw Noir destroying the floor under them and threatened to destroy the main universe as well if Betterfly didn't show himself, Betterfly saved Marinette from hitting the ground and told her to stay safe before going to confront them.

Miraculous World - Paris Special 832

Gabriel willingly loaned his Miraculous to Ladybug.

Before Shadybug could steal his Miraculous, Ladybug saved him alongside Cat Noir, with Betterfly kamikotizing the latter to get the three safe from the villains. When hidden in the sewers, Betterfly expressed his surprise to see the heroes's world being so different from his, with Ladybug and Cat Noir being partners who trust and help each other and told them his motivations to become a superhero and encouraged them when Marinette felt down after recently losing almost all the other Miraculouses to Monarch and she agreed to help him.

After learning that Shadybug and Claw Noir teamed up with Monarch and planned to set them a trap, with Betterfly and Cat Noir's encouragement, Ladybug formulated a plan where Betterfly willingly loaned his Miraculous to her and allowed the heroine to Kamikotize him into a superhero to protect her and Cat Noir.

After Shadybug and Claw Noir reformed and joined him, Betterfly willingly Kamikotized Ladybug into Ladybiquity to prevent Monarch to steal the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses from other universes and after she succeeded, Betterfly thanked Ladybug for her help and reassured her she'll succeed in recovering the stolen Miraculouses as well, to which Ladybug thanked him as well for helping her to regain her hopes.

Cat Noir

Miraculous World - Paris Special 425

Betterfly kamikotizing Cat Noir while assuring him he wasn't a villain.

Betterfly first met Cat Noir when the latter saved him and Ladybug from Shadybug and Claw Noir, with Betterfly telling him who the rogue holders were and stated it was a honor to meet him, much to the younger hero's surprise.

During the fight, when Shadybug was about to attack Cat Noir, Betterfly quickly sent a Kamiko to him, which the latter understandably refused at first but Betterfly reassured him he wasn't his enemy and only fought for the greater good like him, and asked him to accept his gift to save themselves, to which Cat Noir agreed, becoming Celesticat and carrying him and Ladybug away from the rogue holders.

Once safe in the sewers, Betterfly removed Celesticat's kamiko and thanked him, before telling him and Ladybug about the Supreme, his motives and how their world was different from his, and when they felt down for losing the other Miraculouses to Monarch, Betterfly encouraged them, and Adrien agreed to help him.

When learning of Monarch's trap, Betterfly reassured a worried Cat Noir that he made sure of keeping Marinette safe from the supervillains. When Ladyfly kamikotized Gabriel, he willingly used his powers to protect Cat Noir from Monarch's powers.

Unknown to Gabriel, Cat Noir is the good counterpart of his son, who like him was able to move on from Émilie's death and used his powers to help others.

Alya Césaire (Re-Verse)

Miraculous World - Paris Special 023

Alya is Betterfly's ally and part of his Resistance against the Supreme.

When attacked by Shadybug and Claw Noir, Betterfly asked by Alya's permission to kamikotize her into Ubiquity to travel to the main universe to get Ladybug and Claw Noir, which Alya agreed to.

When in the main universe, Ubiquity was forced to open her portal by Shadybug and Claw Noir threatening Nino, and apologizing to Betterfly, warned him to escape. And when Ubiquity was tied up by Shadybug and Claw Noir, she told Betterfly, who understood and thanked her for her help before releasing her from her power.

The Supreme

It's known that in the past, the Supreme trusted Gabriel the Butterfly Miraculous to help him to perpetuate his power in their world, however Gabriel took advantage of this to steal both the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculouses for his own goals, which as consequence caused Émilie's death, much to Gabriel's grief.

Since that day, Gabriel decided to use the Butterfly Miraculous to fight against the Supreme and bring hope in Paris and created a Resistance to free their world. This decision angered the Supreme, who sent Shadybug and Claw Noir (who unknown to Gabriel was his son) to hunt down Betterfly and retrieve the Butterfly Miraculous. This was what made Betterfly to travel across worlds to find outside help to defeat him and also tried to convince Shadybug and Claw Noir to join the Resistance, as the Supreme was manipulating them and also was slowly destroying them by making them to use their powers for evil.

After visiting the Quantic Universe's Paris and a reformed Shadybug and Claw Noir joined Betterfly's team, the latter got renewed hope to defeat The Supreme and having a better world.

Monarch

Miraculous World - Paris Special 173

Betterfly became surprised when Alya confuses him with Monarch.

Betterfly never met Monarch directly and became surprised when Alya briefly confused him for his villainous counterpart.

Hidden in the sewers, Betterfly learned in that universe there was another Butterfly Miraculous holder who used it for evil purposes and also recently stole almost all the other Miraculouses from Ladybug.

Miraculous World - Paris Special 786

Betterfly tried to undo Monarch's supposed akumatization.

However, when learning Monarch teamed up with Shadybug and Claw Noir, Betterfly was willing to help Ladybug and Cat Noir to stop him, by first trying to undone the latter's supposed akumatization on the rogue holders (which were actually illusions made by the Fox Miraculous) and later by loaning his Miraculous to Ladybug to kamikotize him into protecting her and Cat Noir from Monarch's powers and also hid his kamikotized object in the alternate universe to prevent Monarch from removing Guardian Angel's powers.

After regaining his Miraculous and reforming Shadybug and Claw Noir, Betterfly became worried when learning Monarch gave himself the power to travel between universes and briefly kamikotized Ladybug to stop him from stealing the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses from other universes and after she succeeded, Betterfly reassured her she'll succeed in defeating his bad counterpart as well.

Unknown to Gabriel, Monarch is actually his evil counterpart in Ladybug and Cat Noir's universe who unlike him was unable to move on from losing Émilie like Adrien in his universe, and used his powers to revive her at the cost of hurting innocent people and his son. Also, in "Re-creation", his counterpart redeemed himself by using Gimmi to sacrifice himself to heal Nathalie and join Émilie in the afterlife.

Nooroo

Miraculous World - Paris Special 012

Gabriel caring for his kwami.

It's not much known about Gabriel's relationship with his kwami, but as shown in the opening, Gabriel cares for his kwami with kindness and uses his powers to help people, unlike his evil counterpart who only sees him as a slave.

It's known that in the past, Gabriel originally used Nooroo for evil purposes until it costed him his wife, motivating him to help others.

Émilie Agreste

Miraculous World - Paris Special 006

Gabriel was devastated by his wife's death.

Like his bad counterpart, Gabriel deeply loved his wife and he and Émilie used the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculouses respectively for an unknown purpose, which proved to be a grave mistake as it costed Émilie her life, which devastated Gabriel, like his evil counterpart.

However, unlike him, Gabriel was able to move on from her death, and the incident motivated him to start using his powers for the greater good and bring hope to his world, and never considered using Gimmi to try to bring her back. Likely being aware of the same thing his son's counterpart was: refusing to bring a loved back at the cost of someone else losing theirs and it continuing into an endless cycle.

Alya Césaire

Betterfly first met Alya when her alternate counterpart connected her power to her to open a portal for Betterfly to cross the Quantic Universe.

At Alya's inquiring, Betterfly explained her transfomation into Ubiquity and became confused when she wondered if he was Monarch.

However, soon alternate Ubiquity took over, reluctantly opened the portal and warned Betterfly to escape from Shadybug and Claw Noir, with he did and he thanked her and released her from her powers.

After being saved by Ladybug and Cat Noir, and seeing giant versions of Shadybug and Claw Noir, the three heroes were approached by Alya who showed them a video where she recorded Monarch teaming up with Shadybug and Claw Noir to set a trap and this allowed the heroes to make a plan, in which Betterfly willingly kamikotized Alya into Ubiquity and after being kamikotized himself by Ladyfly, he hid his kamikotized object in the alternate universe through the portal.

When Shadybug and Claw Noir were reformed, Betterfly asked for Alya's permission to kamikotize her into Ubiquity again, which she agreed but also sensed Monarch trying to cross over universes to steal their Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses, but after Ladybiquity stopped him. Ubiquity opened the portal, allowing the alternate heroes to return to their universe.

Trivia

  • In the French version, Gabriel's superhero identity is Hesperia. In the English version, it is instead Betterfly.
    • In the European Portuguese dub, Gabriel's superhero identity is Asaluz, which is the combination of the words "asa", which is Portuguese for "wing", and "luz", which is Portuguese for "light". So his superhero name means literally "wing of light".
  • Gabriel's French superhero identity, Hesperia, means "evening" or "evening star" in Greek.
    • Hesperia is also a brand skipper of the butterfly family.
    • "Hesperia" also resembles the french verb "espérer", meaning "to trust", "to have faith", "to hope", as he intends to help Paris by giving it hope back.
    • Because of his superhero name appearing to be feminine, it was thought that was the superhero name of the Re-Verse's Alya, being it either as a Butterfly Miraculous holder or as an akumatized hero.
    • The name Hesperia is almost identical to Vesperia, differing only at the first letter. The two are even superhero names of Miraculous holders from two different bug themes: butterfly and bee.
  • Because Betterfly uses the Butterfly Miraculous for good, instead of evil like Monarch does, his own powers get a different name:
    • Instead of creating akumas (which are attracted to negative emotions/intentions), he creates kamikos which, despite looking identical to akumas, seem to work in reverse, being attracted to positive emotions/intentions.
    • By extension, the name of the power Betterfly uses is not Akumatization, but Kamikotization, which allows him to create kamikotized superheroes.
  • Similar to his counterpart, Betterfly stole two Miraculous from the Supreme entity of his universe that possesses them, with them being the Butterfly and the Peacock.
  • The relationship that Gabriel and his counterpart have with their respective sons are both similar and opposite to one another:
    • In the Quantic Universe, Gabriel was unable to move on from his wife's death and was obsessed with bringing her back, while Adrien was able to do it, causing the former to be very protective and demanding with the latter. Meanwhile, in the reverse universe, Gabriel was able to move on from his wife's death, while Adrien was unable to move on from mother's death and was obsessed with bringing her back, becoming resenting towards his father for doing it and acting rebellious with him.
    • Both Gabriels have a distant relationship with their respective sons, but for similar and yet different reasons. The Gabriel from the Quantic Universe wants to protect Adrien from the very supervillains he creates, while also preventing him from discovering that he is a supervillain. Meanwhile, the Gabriel from the reverse universe simply doesn't want his son to get involved in his own fights and keep him safe.
    • Both Gabriels are unaware that their respective sons are their enemies, with the Gabriel of the Quantic Universe being unaware his son is Cat Noir and one of the reasons why he is always losing, while reverse Gabriel is unaware his son is Claw Noir who used to hunt him down to recover his Butterfly Miraculous.
      • Interestingly, both Gabriels ended up teaming up with their respective sons at one point. However, while Gabriel from the Quantic Universe had to akumatize his son to have him join him or take advantage of his control over him, the Gabriel from the reverse universe ended up teaming up with his son after the latter decided to become a superhero, however with both not knowing who each other are.
  • The main power of Gabriel's kamikotized form seem to be a mix of Resistance and Venom, with it protecting his wards, while also immobilizing the enemy in one go.
  • This version of Gabriel share some similarities with Spider-Man/Peter Parker when it comes to their origins: Once they'd gained their respective superpowers, they started to used them in order to satisfy their own desires. But this resulted the loss of a person they held dear (for Gabriel it was his wife, Émilie, and for Peter it was his uncle Ben). Afterwards, they both decided to use their powers for the greater good, having learned the hard way why superpowers should never be used selfishly.
  • Betterfly is considered the heroic representation of Gabriel in the Quantic Universe, serving as what would happened if he went down the same path as his son, then Gabriel and Adrien would have team up and work together as superheroes, like father and son, using their powers to help others while honoring Émilie, possibly joining the French Miraculous superhero team.
