—Betterfly to Marinette, "Miraculous Paris" | ||
Gabriel Agreste is the tritagonist of Miraculous World: Paris - Tales of Shadybug and Claw Noir. He is the heroic counterpart of Gabriel Agreste from the Re-Verse. When Nooroo inhabits the Butterfly Miraculous, he transforms into Betterfly (Hesperia in the French dub), a butterfly-themed superhero with the power of Transmission. He is also the leader of the Resistance.
In "Miraculous Paris", he crossed the multiverse to seek help from Ladybug and Cat Noir to fight Shadybug and Claw Noir, who came to their world to steal the Butterfly Miraculous from him. After his enemies allied themselves with Ladybug's own nemesis, Monarch, and set up a trap, Ladybug comes up with a plan to counter it. Borrowing his Butterfly Miraculous to become Ladyfly, she kamikotized him into Guardian Angel, an angel-themed superhero with the power to protect his allies from any attack. After Ladybug and Cat Noir managed to reform Shadybug and Claw Noir, who became superheroes, the latter two joined Betterfly's team to fight the Supreme and bring peace to their universe.
Appearance
Physical Appearance
Because he is Gabriel Agreste's counterpart in another universe, he has a similar appearance to him, but with a middle part hairstyle.
Civilian Attire
He wears a light blue vest with white buttons over a cream-colored dress shirt, a light blue violet ascot tie with a pattern of tiny lilac triangles, light khaki dress pants, cream-colored dress shoes with brown laces, and light gray round glasses. He also has a silver wedding ring on his left ring finger.
As Betterfly
Betterfly wears a light purple dress shirt, over which he wears a dark indigo jacket with lighter purple butterfly-shaped lapel-like adorn coming from the central button of his jacket. He also wears dark indigo pants and dress shoes without laces, purple gloves, a dark purple butterfly-shaped mask over his face, and a light purple cavalier shoulder cape that resembles butterfly wings, and his hairstyle is white middle part.
As Guardian Angel
Guardian Angel was similar to Gabriel in appearance, but with his body and clothes appearing to be made entirely of white feathers. He was seen wearing a tailcoat and had big white wings and completely white eyes. His kamikotized object, his glasses, seemed to be the only part of his form not made of feather.

Personality
After his wife's death, Gabriel decided to become a superhero and use his powers to bring hope to his universe.
Much like his counterpart, Gabriel used to be willing to go to great lengths to get what he wanted. In order to make his dream a reality, he joined the Supreme and stole two Miraculous: the Butterfly and the Peacock. However, because of his misuse of their powers, he lost his wife. This event had a great impact on Gabriel, who decided to use the power of the Butterfly for good, creating superheroes to fight the Supreme, and bring hope to his world.
However, unlike his counterpart, Gabriel was able to move on from his wife's death, and never considered in finding a way to bring her back. Not just that, but he is able to learn from his mistakes.
Gabriel as Betterfly became ashamed when remembering how his misuse of the Miraculous hurt the people he loves.
As Betterfly, unlike Hawk Moth/Shadow Moth/Monarch, he embodies all the ideals of hope and freedom he stands for to the heart. It is his belief that powers must be shared to the world and used for the greater good, a lesson that he learned in the hard way. Remaining true to the purpose of his Miraculous, he only uses his powers to kamikotize someone that willingly wants to help him, instead of preying on those with negative emotions or on innocent civilians. Even with his allies, unless it's a life or death situation, he asks them for permission before releasing his kamiko. An example is when he saves Marinette, as he doesn't try to kamikotize her to help him fight Shadybug and Claw Noir, despite the clear disadvantage he has.
This is also evident in his fighting style, which also contrasts with that of his counterpart's. Unlike Hawk Moth/Monarch, who prefers to remain in his lair and let his akumatized villains fight for him, only fighting his enemies directly when necessary, Betterfly is more opened as he is willing to fight his battles than just watch from a distance or manipulate everyone to his advantage. Even those he kamikotizes are seen to possess powers that serve mostly as support, like Ubiquity's ability to transport him to an universe where he can get allies or Celesticat's ability to emanate a blinding light and flight to help them escape Shadybug and Claw Noir.
Betterfly became amazed and hopeful after seeing the Quantic Universe and its heroes.
Betterfly always prioritizes the safety of the civilians and his allies, even before his own mission to defeat The Supreme and his followers, seen how he went to put Marinette in a safe place, as soon he heard from Ubiquity that Shadybug and Claw Noir were coming, instead of taking that time to prepare an ambush. Also similar to Ladybug and Cat Noir, he was also caring and considerate even to his enemies as he tried to convince Shadybug and Claw Noir that it wasn't too late for them to change likely wanting to save them from the negative effects of their jewels. Without realizing it he also felt great empathy, unlike his counterpart, as he like Ladybug and Cat Noir knew what it felt like to be hunted and lonely.
Betterfly is also very emotional and passionate about his job as a superhero. He is very dedicated to his duty to his world in such way that it actually made him have a troubled relationship with his son, who believes that his father doesn't have time for him so he can keep making clothes to help him move on from Émilie's death. But despite his estranged relationship with his son being painful to him, he knows it's the only way to keep him safe. After coming to Ladybug and Cat Noir's world and seeing how different it is from his, Betterfly became very emotional, as that only gave him more hope that his dream of turning his world into something as marvelous is still possible.
Abilities
As a Civilian
Gabriel's fashion designs.
In the theme song, it is shown that, like his counterpart, he has skills in the fashion industry.
As Betterfly
Betterfly shooting a Kamiko to Cat Noir.
Like his villainous counterpart, he can use the power of the Butterfly Miraculous to give superpowers to individuals. However, unlike him, who can create Akumas to turn people into Supervillains, Betterfly creates Kamikos, which are able to kamikotize them into superheroes. It would appear that Betterfly is able to shoot the kamikos directly to his targets, instead of just directing them and let them fly naturally to them. He can also undo any transformation originated from the Butterfly Miraculous, by purifying the butterfly used on it, being it a kamiko or an akuma.
As Guardian Angel
Guardian Angel protecting Cat Noir and Ladyfly by marking their backs with his wings.
Like a real angel, he had wings that allowed him to fly. However, his real power was his ability to protect his allies from any attack. To activate his power, he involved his allies with his wings, marking their backs with wing marks and then disappearing. As long his allies had his mark, they became protected from any attack that may have landed on them. When they were attacked, a swarm of white feathers were released from the mark and involved the assaulter completely, immobilizing them and putting them out of combat.

Trivia
- In the French version, Gabriel's superhero identity is Hesperia. In the English version, it is instead Betterfly.
- In the European Portuguese dub, Gabriel's superhero identity is Asaluz, which is the combination of the words "asa", which is Portuguese for "wing", and "luz", which is Portuguese for "light". So his superhero name means literally "wing of light".
- Gabriel's French superhero identity, Hesperia, means "evening" or "evening star" in Greek.
- Hesperia is also a brand skipper of the butterfly family.
- "Hesperia" also resembles the french verb "espérer", meaning "to trust", "to have faith", "to hope", as he intends to help Paris by giving it hope back.
- Because of his superhero name appearing to be feminine, it was thought that was the superhero name of the Re-Verse's Alya, being it either as a Butterfly Miraculous holder or as an akumatized hero.
- The name Hesperia is almost identical to Vesperia, differing only at the first letter. The two are even superhero names of Miraculous holders from two different bug themes: butterfly and bee.
- Because Betterfly uses the Butterfly Miraculous for good, instead of evil like Monarch does, his own powers get a different name:
- Instead of creating akumas (which are attracted to negative emotions/intentions), he creates kamikos which, despite looking identical to akumas, seem to work in reverse, being attracted to positive emotions/intentions.
- By extension, the name of the power Betterfly uses is not Akumatization, but Kamikotization, which allows him to create kamikotized superheroes.
- Similar to his counterpart, Betterfly stole two Miraculous from the Supreme entity of his universe that possesses them, with them being the Butterfly and the Peacock.
- The relationship that Gabriel and his counterpart have with their respective sons are both similar and opposite to one another:
- In the Quantic Universe, Gabriel was unable to move on from his wife's death and was obsessed with bringing her back, while Adrien was able to do it, causing the former to be very protective and demanding with the latter. Meanwhile, in the reverse universe, Gabriel was able to move on from his wife's death, while Adrien was unable to move on from his mother's death and was obsessed with bringing her back, becoming resenting towards his father for doing it and acting rebellious with him.
- Both Gabriels have a distant relationship with their respective sons, but for similar and yet different reasons. The Gabriel from the Quantic Universe wants to protect Adrien from the very supervillains he creates, while also preventing him from discovering that he is a supervillain. Meanwhile, the Gabriel from the reverse universe simply doesn't want his son to get involved in his own fights and keep him safe.
- Both Gabriels are unaware that their respective sons are their enemies, with the Gabriel of the Quantic Universe being unaware his son is Cat Noir and one of the reasons why he is always losing, while reverse Gabriel is unaware his son is Claw Noir who used to hunt him down to recover his Butterfly Miraculous.
- Interestingly, both Gabriels ended up teaming up with their respective sons at one point. However, while Gabriel from the Quantic Universe had to akumatize his son to have him join him or take advantage of his control over him, the Gabriel from the reverse universe ended up teaming up with his son after the latter decided to become a superhero, however with both not knowing who each other are.
- The main power of Gabriel's kamikotized form seem to be a mix of Resistance and Venom, with it protecting his wards, while also immobilizing the enemy in one go.
- This version of Gabriel share some similarities with Spider-Man/Peter Parker when it comes to their origins: Once they'd gained their respective superpowers, they started to used them in order to satisfy their own desires. But this resulted the loss of a person they held dear (for Gabriel it was his wife, Émilie, and for Peter it was his uncle Ben). Afterwards, they both decided to use their powers for the greater good, having learned the hard way why superpowers should never be used selfishly.
- Betterfly is considered the heroic representation of Gabriel in the Quantic Universe, serving as what would happened if he went down the same path as his son, then Gabriel and Adrien would have team up and work together as superheroes, like father and son, using their powers to help others while honoring Émilie, possibly joining the French Miraculous superhero team.
