Fetch has been a featured article on the front page. This article is related to the Dog Miraculous.

"Thanks to your superpower, you can locate any object that you've touched before."
"Oh! Uh... (touches her yo-yo) Like this?"
"No! With the ball. A light touch will be enough."

Pennybug & Flairmidable, "Strikeback"

Fetch is the special superpower granted by the Dog Miraculous to its owner.

Description[]

This superpower allows the user to retrieve objects from afar. It is activated by the user speaking its name.

Miraculous owner[]

Strikeback 357

An object being marked by the ball.

The Dog Miraculous owner first uses the ball to hit the intended object, either by using the ball as a projectile or by simply touching it to the target. This creates a magical connection between the ball and the marked object that will remain as long the Dog Miraculous holder remains transformed. Notably, the object flashes briefly when it is marked by the ball. As seen in "Adoration", the user can mark multiple objects with a single touch, if the object the user touches is part of the greater whole; for example, for a stack of doilies, the user would only need to touch the one on top in order to mark the whole stack, or for a collection of paper flowers, the user would only need to touch one of the flowers in order to mark them all.

Adoration 273

Vanisher marking multiple objects.

The user can then activate the superpower at any time when they wish to retrieve the object(s) that they marked. Once the holder calls upon the power, the ball will fly toward and pursue the marked object, even phasing through solid matter on its way, and, once it touches it, both the ball and the object will suddenly disappear from their current location and then reappear in the Dog Miraculous holder's possession. Fetch can find and retrieve the marked object even if it is out of the users sight, far away, and/or even if the user doesn't know where the object is currently located.

Penalteam 466

Penalty's ball appearing below Miss Hound's foot.

Interestingly, as seen in "Penalteam", the object does not necessarily appear in the users hands. It can be transported to whatever part of their body they deem appropriate, such as it appearing under the users foot.

As seen in "Adoration", the power of Fetch not only retrieves the object itself, but also whatever is inside the object. Vanisher used the power to retrieve a spray can full of glue, in doing so, she retrieved the can itself, as well as the glue inside it.

Also revealed in "Adoration", the user can mark multiple different objects and later choose which of those objects they want to retrieve. Once the user retrieves one of those objects, the other objects remain marked and can still be retrieved later, assuming the user can activate the power more than once without detransforming as an adult or a young holder can do it within their 5 minute window. "Adoration" also reveals that the user can retrieve multiple objects at once.

Evolution (385)

Fetch used through Burrow.

Fetch can be used in unison with the Rabbit Miraculous superpower, Burrow. The user can go back to the past to touch the object with the ball, then when the user returns to the present, the connection between the ball and the marked object remains and the user is able to use the power to retrieve that object.

This power is mostly useful for strategy and subterfuge; it can be used to steal an important object from an opponent's possession, as seen in "Penalteam", "Strikeback", and "Evolution", either to use the object against them or to simply deprive them of it. It can also be used to acquire certain objects to be used for certain purposes, as seen in "Adoration" when Vanisher used it to steal other peoples property and put it all in Marinette's bag to frame her for theft. However, Fetch is not without combat applications, as the user can just as easily retrieve one or more objects that they can use as a weapon.

Barkk[]

The effects of Barkk's Fetch is unknown, but it would most certainly be unconstrained and result in some kind of catastrophe, though she would be able to restrain it somewhat.

Weaknesses[]

The most obvious weakness of this power is that the user has to actually touch the object with the ball before they can retrieve it. Furthermore, as explained in "Strikeback", it has to be the ball that touches the object, Fetch cannot be used to retrieve an object the user only touched with their hand.

Illusion 094

Marinette rationalizing that Monarch can't be using Fetch because she never sees the ball.

Another weakness, as explained in "Illusion", is that the Ball is clearly visible when Fetch is used to retrieve something, making it difficult to use the power discretely.

As seen in "Evolution" the ball can only fly so fast, so the marked object could move or be moved faster than the ball can chase after it. Also the user cannot retrieve the marked object if the ball is unable to follow the marked object; for example, it cannot enter the Rabbit Miraculous Holder's Burrow pocket dimension after the portal closes.

As explained in "Strikeback", if the ball touches a Miraculous tool, the connection between them will be broken when the user of that tool detransforms and the tool disappears.

Strikeback 492

Gabriel steals all the Miraculouses thanks to Fetch.

It's only a circumstantial weakness rather than a weakness of the power itself, but since Marinette was made the new Guardian of the Chinese Miracle Box, her Yo-yo is able to act as a magical shortcut directly to the Miracle Box, giving her ready access to all the Miraculouses kept inside it. In "Strikeback", Félix used Fetch to retrieve Ladybug's Yo-yo, and once he had it, all the Miraculouses in the Miracle Box were stolen.

Resistance can cancel out the effects, thus failing to retrieve something in the Ox Miraculous users possession.

In "Miraculous Paris", it is revealed that using the special superpower uses vital energy from the Kwami, but also from the miraculous holder. It's one thing for an adult holder, but for an underage holder, who is less physically and mentally capable of handling the strain, there is a security system in place that limits them to only using their special power once and causes them to detransform before it becomes dangerous. However, using the Miraculous for evil overrides the limiter, allowing an underage holder to use their powers to their full potential. As previously stated, a younger holder cannot handle the strain; dark veins of corruption will gradually spread across their body, and they will inevitably be destroyed.

Trivia[]

  • This superpower may be a reference to the common recreational activity of fetch.
    • As well as a dog fetching a ball back to its owner and tracking an object from its scent.
  • It's unknown if this superpower can be used on living beings or if it can only work on objects.
  • Interestingly, if this power is used to retrieve a Miraculous tool, then the tool will remain in existence even if the holder it came from detransforms. The tool will only disappear once the holder transforms again, causing the tool to appear back in their possession.
  • This power is somewhat similar to Voyage, as they both have a teleportation like power, though this power can only make objects appear to the user, but Voyage can make the user teleport anywhere.
