—Ella and Etta Césaire, "Simpleman" |
Ella and Etta Césaire[3] are minor characters of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. They are Alya and Nora's younger twin sisters.[4]
In "Sapotis", after being scolded by Alya and losing their opportunity to go to an amusement park for misbehaving, they were both akumatized by Hawk Moth into the Sapotis, two mischievous monster supervillains.
Appearance
Physical appearance
Both Ella and Etta have tan skin, wavy brown hair that are put into low buns, pale crimson lipsticks, and vivid gamboge eyes.
Civilian attire
Etta has light sea green earrings. She wears a brilliant cerise and white-striped t-shirt, jean shorts with folded up legs, mulberryish black leggings, and brilliant cerise sneakers with white laces and white toe tips.
Ella has pink earrings. She wears a light sea green and white-striped t-shirt, jean shorts with folded up legs, ceruleanish black leggings, and light sea green sneakers with white laces and white toe tips.[5]
As Sapotis
Sapotis had smaller proportions, and she was red with two downward-bent light purple stripes on the top of her head. Two light purple ear-shaped ridges with black edges came out of each side of her head. Her eyes were vivid gold with light blue violetish gray pupils, and she had two pointy canines. Her feet were like hands, having opposable thumbs, and she had black claws. Additionally, she had two yellow golden bands around each wrist, ankle, and around her hips. She had a tutu-like object with two golden bands, the colors from the bands to the tips being red, light purple, and black.
Personality
Ella and Etta are rambunctious, energetic, fun-loving, enthusiastic, and mischievous, but naughty little girls. They often speak in unison, and while they usually get along, they sometimes argue with each other over things like their possessions.
Very energetic, they love messing around, and they leap onto Cat Noir in excitement when he asks them where their house is in order to take them home. Disobedient at times, they enjoy causing trouble and blaming Sapotis for their behavior. However, they don't like being in trouble, and they cry when they are upset, like being devastated when Alya punishes them by telling them they won't get to go to the amusement park the next day.
Even though Ella and Etta and their friends love to play, they know that there are times to be serious. Upon seeing Ladybug and Cat Noir acting like their age and fighting so poorly to the point of them giving up their jewels, they knew of what would happen if Hawk Moth got them and like Manon, they are shown to be very clever.
As Sapotis, their mischief increased, happily breaking rules and causing mayhem across Paris. They enjoyed eating, and they didn't care for others' safety as long as their own selfish desires were being met. However, because of their obsession with fun, they easily fell for Rena Rouge's illusion of an amusement park, ignoring Hawk Moth's warning that it was a trap.
They also tended to growl, which was especially noticable while they growled "Miraculous" while ganging up on Ladybug and Cat Noir.
Abilities
As Sapotis
Sapotis had increased speed and dexterity with which to climb over anything. They could curl into balls, allowing them to tackle people with stronger impact. When they consumed food, they multiplied into more Sapotis, though these new ones would vanish when the propellers on their hats were destroyed. They could also drive vehicles (car, bicycle, rickshaw), helping each other.
Relationships
Alya Césaire/Rena Rouge
Alya loves her younger sisters dearly and enjoys playing with them. She knows how to handle them pretty well, as complemented by Marinette, but her patience can run out with them over time, and she is very stern with them when they disobey her too often. When Alya discovers that they have been akumatized, she does everything in her power as Rena Rouge to bring them back to normal.

Trivia
- Ella's name is a reference to Ella Fitzgerald, and Etta's name is a reference to Etta James, just as the rest of their family's names are references to jazz singers.[6]
- Their Akumatized forms were first revealed as silhouettes in a promotional poster on Jeremy Zag's Instagram.
- Both Etta and Ella were Akumatized at the same time since they were both holding onto the object the Akuma affected.
- As the term "Sapotis" is from a Créole legend that Ella and Etta pretend to be, Sapotis is one of the few villains Hawk Moth does not technically name.
- In one of Alya's Instagram photos, Ella and Etta have a teddy bear similar to Chloé's Mr. Cuddly, but in a different color.
- Sapotis appears another time in "Gamer 2.0" for Gamer 2.0's playable characters.
- Etta is ticklish, as seen in "Simpleman" when Chris tickles her.
