"Elation" is a Season 5 episode of the series, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. As based on the series' production order specifically, "Elation" is the 9th written and produced episode of Season 5. It is also the 113th written and produced episode of the series, overall.
Synopsis
When Ladybug chases after Cat Noir, he runs away from her. When Adrien chases after Marinette, she runs away from him. Tikki and Alya grow increasingly concerned as they watch Marinette’s moves: is their friend looking for yet another excuse to run away from her feelings for Adrien, or is she really falling for another boy? When they cross paths with André the ice-cream maker – whose ice cream is supposed to know and reveal the mysteries of love – Marinette and Cat Noir make a chilling discovery that will freeze their hearts!

Ladybug and Cat Noir face Glaciator again.
Plot
After defeating a villain, Ladybug and Cat Noir do their trademark "pound it" fist bump and as Cat Noir proceeds to leave, Ladybug pulls his tail and stops him. She then shows Cat Noir a table for two with chouquets and offers him to sit down and eat with her, he refuses because he will detransform in a minute and Ladybug says in a very flirtatious tone "You know, one minute can feel like eternity if you are with the right person" but Cat Noir proceeds to go away, but before that Ladybug tries to kiss him but he just backs up and asks her what she is doing. Ladybug, disappointed asks Cat Noir if he has a new girlfriend but he thinks she is trying to put him at test and responds with "I know your tricks and it's not gonna work" and just goes away.
As Cat Noir hides to detransform, a fan spots him and brings her friends to all take a selfie with him but he escapes a few seconds after detransforming, he then looks at Marinette's house and decides to go in. Meanwhile in Marinette's room, Marinette is complaining about the fact that Cat Noir isn't flirting with her as he used to do, in response Alya reminds her that she asked Cat Noir to stop flirting with her but then Marinette starts to think that maybe Cat Noir is not in love with her anymore, the conversation continues with Marinette arguing with Alya.
Meanwhile, Adrien enters Tom and Sabine's bakery and asks Tom and Sabine if Marinette is here. After figuring out as to why he is acting strange, the conclude Adrien is in love in Marinette. Sabine calls Marinette and tells her that Adrien can meet her at school. Meanwhile, while Adrien is waiting for Marinette, a customer enters and recognizes him as the face for the Alliance rings. The customer takes a selfie of him and Adrien and posts it online. Tom and Sabine tell him that Marinette is unavailable and gives Adrien a free bag of chouquettes.
As he walks out, eating the chouquettes, a group of fans recognize him from the customer's post. Adrien transforms into Cat Noir and uses his staff to get away from them onto a balcony near the bakery. Cat Noir becomes shocked when he sees Marinette go into the exterior of her bedroom. She becomes shocked as well when she sees Cat Noir. After they see each other and Cat Noir goes over to the top of the bakery where Marinette is and gives her a rose, Cat Noir extends his staff so that he and Marinette are high in the sky.
Meanwhile, in Marinette's bedroom, Alya and Tikki talk about their negative emotions and decide to check up on Marinette. They go to the top of the bakery but cannot find her. Meanwhile, Marinette and Adrien are in the sky and try to find Andre, the ice cream man who is at the Ile aux Cygnes. They go to find him. After Andre refuses to serve them ice cream because he thinks Cat Noir is with Ladybug and Marinette is with Adrien, they decide it is too much to bear. Marinette tells Cat Noir she is fine with him wearing a mask, they kiss. Cat Noir then explains that although he likes her he can't be with her due to the fact he would be taking advantage of her. Marinette becomes upset with the fact that people are telling her who and who not to love.
Meanwhile, in his lair, Monarch senses Marinette's emotions. He creates a megakuma and absorbs Kaalki into his Miraculous and teleports the megakuma to Marinette. The megakuma goes into the rose Cat Noir gave her. In an attempt, to help her reject the megakuma, Cat Noir kisses Marinette. the megakuma leaves the rose and goes into a portal that leads to Monarch. Cat Noir apologizes to Marinette for kissing her for the second time. Meanwhile, Monarch senses another person's strong emotions. It turns out the person is Andre as he doubts whether or not his ice cream flavors are wrong.
The megakuma is teleported to him and it destroys Ladybug's magical charm. The megakuma enters his ice cream scoop. Monarch absorbs Roaar into his ring and transfers Andre the essence of the Miraculous of Elation. Andre is akumatized into Glaciator. After seeing him, Cat Noir hides Marinette in a changeroom. Marinette calls Alya and tells her where she is. Tikki quickly flies to where Marinette is.
Cat Noir catches up with Glaciator and uses his staff to slice him. His attempt is unsuccessful as Glaciator becomes one. He uses his destructive power on Cat Noir and leaves him hurt. Glaciator comes to the bakery and quickly gets Tom and Sabine out before Glaciator destroys the bakery. Tikki catches up with Marinette and Cat Noir hides Tom and Sabine as Marinette transforms into Ladybug. Glaciator corners Cat Noir and when he puts his hands out to get Cat Noir's Miraculous, Alya gets the attention of Glaciator.
Glaciator uses his powers on Alya and he starts chasing Ladybug. Ladybug and Cat Noir end up in a building where Glaciator cannot find them. Ladybug uses her Lucky Charm and receives a giant parasol. When Glaciator is about to get Cat Noir's Miraculous, Ladybug throws the parasol which is tied to her yo-yo. It flies through Glaciator's ice cream body and opens it, so that Glaciator cannot see anything. Ladybug pulls him toward a bus that is up in flames and melts Glaciator's body. All that is left is Andre and his scoop. Cat Noir throws his staff to break it.
After purifying the megakuma, Ladybug gives Andre his magical charm. She throws the parasol in the air to revert all of the damage caused by Glaciator. Monarch detransforms into Gabriel and looks at his left arm and sees the damage slowly spreading. He says he will use Cat Noir's feelings towards Marinette to end Ladybug. After taking her home, Ladybug and Cat Noir wave goodbye. And after Plagg talks to him, Adrien realises Marinette could have feelings for him again as the episode ends.

- Internationally, this episode first premiered in France on TFOU.
- The episode shares its name with the concept of the Tiger Miraculous.
- For an unknown reason, the concept is different in the French dub, being Exaltation.
- The episode reveals a new variation of Clout. As shown with Glaciator, the user doesn't always have to be enveloped in energy to strike their opponents, as they can just charge their fists with energy and release it.
- However, this could be due to Monarch modifying the Miraculous, André being akumatized, or André being an adult.
- Besides the superpower of Clout, the concept of elation expresses a great feeling of joy and exhilaration, something that guided Marinette and Cat Noir's relationship in this episode.
- Both Marinette and Cat Noir were shown exhilarated when at the presence of each other, causing them to dive into their own excessive feelings of joy for being together and ignore the dangers of both of them being in love with each other and their reason.
- After his own emotions cooled down, Cat Noir was able to notice how wrong it was for him to be with Marinette as Cat Noir, as he was being selfish and cruel for making her love someone who she didn't know anything about. This eventually almost led to Marinette being akumatized, as she was still overloading with her own emotions, this time with anger and heartbreak.
- To prevent Marinette's akumatization, Cat Noir kissed her so her exhilarating passion for him would override her own negative emotions.
- Another consequence of their exhilarating joy ride was that Monarch discovered Cat Noir's feelings for Marinette, a fact that may put her in great danger and risk of the villain discovering her true identity as Ladybug.
- Even though elation expresses an excess amount of joy, the opposite excess was expressed here as well, as well as in other instances, which led to said amount coming from heroes as well with that emotion being loneliness:
- As Cat Noir mentioned in "Glaciator 2", that he has a hard time controlling his love impulses which came into his life after his mother disappeared and his father changed, shutting him out but keeping him in making him feel unloved. Then, when he became a hero and met Ladybug, he became so infatuated with her hoping that she could give him the love his father couldn't.
- And for Marinette it came from the opposite direction, as Ladybug; she and her powers were relentlessly and obsessively hunted by Monarch that she temporarily had to give up or lose something or someone just to stop him which led her to feel traumatized, scared and alone.
- Both of their bouts of loneliness were caused by the same person: Gabriel Agreste.
- Both Marinette and Cat Noir were shown exhilarated when at the presence of each other, causing them to dive into their own excessive feelings of joy for being together and ignore the dangers of both of them being in love with each other and their reason.
- In terms of concept, the concepts of the Tiger and Pig are very similar, as both refer to feelings of joy. However with a difference: while the Pig's concept (jubilation) is about what makes people happy, the Tiger's concept (elation) is about an excess of that feeling that is able to cloud one's judgement. They are the same in the terms of feeling joy just for it be to taken away.

- In "Lady Wifi" and "Volpina", Alya was exhilarated at knowing Ladybug's identity and everything about her but she didn't get her facts straight, also disregarded her need for safety as well as believed in a lie and disrespected Ladybug's privacy nor how others like Hawk Moth were going to use that information.
- In "Reverser", where Nathaniel was in exhilarated about meeting the girl he had a crush on but like Alya didn't get his facts right.
- In "Weredad", Tom was exhilarated at Mariette being in "love" with Cat Noir that he jumped the gun.
- In "Cat Blanc", Hawk Moth was exhilarated at finally having everything he wanted after discovering Cat Noir's identity as his own son, but this revelation clouded his mind upon akumatizing him into Cat Blanc, with the power of infinite destruction, which ultimately led to the elimination of all life on Paris, which prevented Hawk Moth from getting the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses.
- Just as if Gabriel was aware of the history of the Miraculouses and the guardians knowledge going back 5000 years then he could asked them if they knew anything about Emilie's and Nathalie's condition but was blinded by his obsession and fear.
- Because of Su-Han's grudge against Master Fu and being judgemental towards the heroes, he had no idea that by coming to Paris how much trouble he put the French Duo.
- In "Strikeback", Ladybug was elated by having "Adrien" as a member of the Miraculous team as Flairmidable, unaware that she actually gave the Dog Miraculous to Félix and what potential she ended up giving to him.
- In "Strikeback" and "Evolution", Gabriel was exhilarated upon accumulating almost every Miraculous stored in the Chinese Miracle Box, that he could not see the dangers assessed with using multiple Miraculouses at once, and wanting to take the opportunity to finally defeat Ladybug and Cat Noir over choosing to save his wife from ever falling ill in the first place, he ended up losing the Rabbit Miraculous, thus succeeding in neither option.
- In "Miraculous Paris", Shadybug and Claw Noir were exhilarated by their anger at how miserable their lives were compared to their counterparts until they saw their true faces.
- In the flashback of "Derision", where Marinette was so exhilarated with Kim that she wasn't aware of his prankster nature.
- In "Representation", Gabriel and Emilie were exhilarated with each other and wanting a family by using the Peacock Miraculous to create Adrien. However, they ignored the consequences and the ultimate price of using a damaged Miraculous, which led the Emilie becoming ill, and eventually, led into an endless sleep and everything else that happened both good and bad.
- The Tiger Miraculous represents the importance of when to speak up about something, how being caught up in one's emotions can cause situations to spiral out of control, and to realize where there are boundaries but should be respected and it will lead to great trouble or danger when they aren't.
- As represented through the current Tiger Miraculous holder, Juleka Couffaine/Purple Tigress from "Crocoduel", where she bottled up her own feelings that it led to her feeling ignored by her family and friends and letting problems spiraling out of control, and it took for her being the superheroine to gain confidence in herself.
- Growing up, Felix didn't speak up about the abuse he suffered because of Colt nor any sooner about Monarch's identity.
- How Marinette spiraled every time she made a plan to get Adrien's affections in various episodes.
- In various episodes, where Cat Noir couldn't suppress in his romantic feelings for Ladybug, and at times, not respecting her boundaries or understanding that they cannot be in a relationship, and especially after the alternative reality in "Cat Blanc".
- From season 4, Cat Noir suppressed in his feelings of neglect coming from Ladybug that it caused rifts in-between their relationship.
- Also because of Gabriel in season 4, Ladybug didn't speak up to Cat Noir about her problems and the fear she felt about what Monarch was going to do and for Cat Noir if she told him which she regretted in "Strikeback".
- As well as how Ladybug dealt with so much pressure being guardian that she failed to realize how Cat Noir felt until "Kuro Neko" and "Strikeback".
- Also in "Kuro Neko", Cat Noir was acting no different than Chloe because of their connections to Ladybug nor their status they expected the heroine to break the boundary lines for them regardless of the outcome.
- Gabriel was caught up in his love for Emilié that he lacked regards of the consequences of the wish to bring her back to life, that he would have ended up putting someone else like him in his situation, and something he explicitly confirms in "Dearest Family", "Evolution", and later in "The Final Day".
- In "Ephemeral", Su-Han demanded Ladybug to find out Cat Noir's identity, unaware of the dangerous consequences of such happening, that it led to Shadow Moth getting the Ultimate Miraculous Absolute Power before being reset by Sass' Second Chance.
- In "Reunion", Jalil missed his sister Alix, that he failed to understand why she went off in the Burrow nor the consequences of getting her back at this point.

- One of the pictures on Andre's cart shows two men, Jean and Serge. Since it was previously explained that the photos depict couples that Andre served, and that Andre uses them as an example of love, it can be assumed these two men are homosexual.

- In Glaciator's rampage, he believes if Ladybug and Cat Noir gave up their jewels then they could be together. However, he is wrong as it wasn't their jewels that was real problem, but the person who is after them. What André also doesn't know is that Monarch doesn't care who has the jewels as long as he gets them meaning the mastermind is willing to do anything and everything he did to the heroes to anyone and everyone else. Ending up in his solution being a quick and easy or short term solution which revealed to be true in "Kwami's Choice".
- Although, Glaciator/André is not partially wrong. In "Cat Blanc" and "Ephemeral", Marinette and Adrien discovered who they were in alternate timelines, and manage to be together, however the discovery happened by accident or through misunderstood circumstances that nearly brought a horrible fate to those timelines.
- If Ladybug and Cat Noir probably sorted out their differences and worked through it, than maybe it would gone differently and be cautious in their personal lives together.
- Although, Glaciator/André is not partially wrong. In "Cat Blanc" and "Ephemeral", Marinette and Adrien discovered who they were in alternate timelines, and manage to be together, however the discovery happened by accident or through misunderstood circumstances that nearly brought a horrible fate to those timelines.
- Cat Noir and Marinette's predicament actually reflects in their previous for Ladybug and Adrien respectively. In regards to this, Cat Noir realizes it was wrong to make her fall in love with someone who she didn't know anything about, which almost led to Marinette being akumatized. Ladybug and Adrien previously had feelings for each other but were too shy to express them and especially made complications to make each other fall in love with the other. In retrospect, if Ladybug and Adrien actually dated, a similar situation would have befall on Adrien getting akumatized.
- Likewise, if that happened, especially since he is Cat Noir, a similar event would have happened like in "Cat Blanc" and "Ephemeral".
- This is the fourth time where the akumatized object is the same object, a rose following "Style Queen", "Weredad" and "Oni-Chan".
- This is the sixth time Ladybug and Cat Noir have kissed, following "Dark Cupid", "Oblivio", "The Puppeteer 2", "Cat Blanc" and "Jubilation".
- This episode bares strong resemblances and references to "Glaciator", "Frozer", "Weredad", "Oni-Chan" and "Glaciator 2":
- The reason of André's akumatization is the same as "Glaciator" and "Glaciator 2": the sadness of those doubting his ice cream's magic and destined soulmates not being together.
- With "Glaciator", "Weredad" and "Glaciator 2", all four episodes dealt with interactions between Marinette and Cat Noir.
- All except "Oni-Chan" and "Glaciator 2" dealt with Adrien/Cat Noir giving a flower to a girl he likes.
- All episodes centered around feelings of love which led to an akumatization.
- Along with "Weredad" and "Oni-Chan", all three victims' akumatized item is a rose.
- But unlike the other two, Marinette's akumatization wasn't finished because of Cat Noir.
- And unlike "Weredad", the bout of feelings between them was real.
- When Marinette mentioned being a fan of his was the same thing he thought about her being one in "Weredad".
- "Weredad", "Oni-Chan" and "Glaciator 2" also involved people that jumped to conclusions.
- This is the twentieth episode in which Cataclysm is summoned twice, after "The Pharaoh", "Simon Says", "Copycat", "The Dark Owl", "Mayura", "Santa Claws", "Miraculous Shanghai", "Weredad", "Reflekdoll", "Oblivio", "Kwamibuster", "Cat Blanc", "Miraculous New York", "Psycomedian", "Queen Banana", "Glaciator 2" and "Hack-San", "Simpleman" and "Passion".
- Unlike the other times, this is the first time both uses were done off-screen.
- Alexandra Fordy, an actress and a longtime fan of the show, known by her internet usernames @alexdrinette, @alexandrafordy and @alexfaithfordy, makes a cameo in the English dub, voicing the blonde girl who asks Cat Noir for a selfie in the alley.[3]
Errors
- During Marinette's akumatization, the megakuma is erroneously cropped out.
- Monarch's face masks are miscolored blue throughout the episode.
- When Monarch is talking to Marinette, the right side of his mouth doesn't move with the left side.
- When opening her yo-yo, Ladybug's left hand and the vfx are not correctly aligned with her yo-yo.
- In the same scene, for one frame her hands and yo-yo are zoomed in.
- The warm lighting during the fight sequence does not affect the characters' hair.
- When Marinette is hiding after she found Cat Noir on the other roof, her left arm rendered double.
- During the sequence where Ladybug de-evilizes the megakuma, she is in her regular suit instead of her Lucky Charm suit.
- This was later fixed during subsequent reruns of the episode.
