What if Monarch showed up at Marinette's home?
Plot
The episode starts with Marinette, in her room, watching a video of Alya's Ladyblog, about Monarch has all the Miraculouses,. While Marinette tries to lower the volume, suddenly Alya enters the room and hears that she was watching Ladyblog. Marinette tries to explain that the video launched itself, and Alya "agrees" with her. Alya then asked whether she wanted fruit to which Marinette says yes. While going back, Alya tells Marinette to take her mind off Monarch and rest. When Alya goes back Marinette opens the video again, in which Alya says Ladybug and Cat Noir to be extra careful and Marinette grows concerned.
In the repository, Gabriel vows to Emilie that he will retrieve the Ladybug's Miraculous and then turns to Kwamis and says they are going to help him with this. He walks towards the Grimoire and reads it. He then orders Orikko to give him the power of Time Travel, since Orikko's power is Sublimation. But he can't do it, since time travel is Fluff's power, and he can't copy the power of another Kwami. Gabriel asks if he is trying to deceive him, to which he tells Gabriel to reread the Grimoire. While, he is re-reading it, Sass explains that each Kwami represents one concept, and that a concept can only exist once in the universe. Xuppu goes to Gabriel and explains it by taking the example of Tikki. Since, Tikki is the Kwami of Creation, there can only be one Creation concept. If there is another power of Creation, then it will be called replication instead of Creation. Gabriel then asks Orikko to give him the power to locate Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses, but Orikko states that that is not a power, but a wish. Xuppu again explains that if he asks Santa for a pair of socks, it is a wish but if he asks to give him the power to knit socks, then Santa first himself should know how to knit socks, in order to teach him. Gabriel becomes frustrated and asks Orikko to give him the power to unmask Ladybug and Cat Noir secret identities. But again, he can't do this, since Sublimation cannot disrupt other Kwami's magic, such as how the Miraculous conceal the identities of their holders.
In anger, Gabriel says that Orikko is a useless Kwami, to which he gets hurt and other Kwamis begin to mock Gabriel. In frustration he silences them all. Gabriel says that he only needs the Kwamis, not their power, in order to reveal their Guardian's identity. He allows them to speak and orders them to say the name of their Guardian. But when all the Kwami say Ladybug, Gabriel becomes increasingly frustrated and says that he already knows that. He wants them to tell him the name of Ladybug, but they are unable to speak her name, since she hadn't renounced them yet. At last, finding a loophole, Gabriel orders the Kwamis to reveal the location of Guardian's place, since there are no rules against it. A terrified Ziggy tells him to just follow the smell of croissants. Gabriel transforms into Monarch, unifying the Butterfly, Horse, Turtle, and Bee Miraculouses and says that it's time to catch Ladybug.
The scene shifts to Marinette' house, where Tom is baking some croissants. Sabine comes and asks him why he is baking bread at this time. Tom, while kneading dough, explains her that since he is no superhero, he is doing what he is best at, that is baking bread and pastries. He hopes that when people will eat his bread Monarch would have less victim to akumatized. Sabine tastes a piece of bread and says that with every day passing she loves him even more. After that they both begin to knead dough and sing together.
In her room, Marinette is lying on her bed and scrolling on her phone through the recent event news. She tries to think anything else than Monarch but fails to do so. Suddenly, a Voyage portal opens in her room and Monarch comes out of it. Both, Monarch and Marinette, are surprised to see each other. Monarch asks the Kwamis that are they sure about this. Ziggy says that now he has to ask Marinette for the gift. When Monarch asks her about the "gift", she remembers and says she have it. As she climbs down the bed, Monarch points the Spinning Top and warns her to not to make any sudden moves. She proceeds towards her chest drawer, almost tripping over her chair in the process, but manages to take out the "gift" from her drawer. When she gives it out to Monarch, he realises that the "gift" is a key with a ladybug design keychain. He becomes furious and asks the Kwamis, why are they giving him a keychain, when asked for the Guardian. The Kwamis reply that since Ladybug is very careful, they don't know her real address. So, in case if they got lost Ladybug organised a treasure hunt to her real address and the first clue was to "follow the smell of croissants". Monarch asks Marinette if she knows where Ladybug is, to which she denies, saying that Ladybug gave her the keychain when she gave her the Mouse Miraculous, in case she lost it since she very clumsy.
Just as Marinette is about to give the keychain to Monarch, Alya enters the room with a tray of croissants but drops it in surprise upon seeing Monarch. He exclaims that Alya surely know where Ladybug is, to which Alya takes out her phone and starts recording Monarch. Monarch breaks her phone in rage and takes the keychain. When he breaks the keychain, he sees a piece of paper with "42" written on it. When he asks Kwamis about it, they tell him about the Ice Rink by mistake. Monarch takes advantage of it and teleports to Ice Rink by Voyage, leaving a dumbfounded Alya.
Monarch arrives at the ice rink and asks Philippe about the key. Philippe leads him to the lockers and opens a locker door. Monarch sees that it contains a photograph of Cat Noir statue at Grévin Museum and a piece of paper which has "street" written on it. He realises that these clues spell out an address. As he prepares to leave, Philippe stops him and takes selfie with Monarch. Monarch pushes Philippe aside in annoyance and travels to Grévin Museum through Voyage. As Monarch goes away, Philippe posts his selfie online, along with Nadja Chamack, Lady Ice, Jagged Stone, and Clara Nightingale selfies.
At Musée Grévin, Véronique proceeds to close the museum, but Monarch teleports behind and orders her to take him to Cat Noir's statue. When they arrive at the statue's place, Véronique leaves him, and Monarch begins examining it. He notices a piece of paper in Cat Noir's bell. He sees that it has "halfwit" written on it. Suddenly, Cat Noir's "statue" grabs his hand, and Ladybug wraps her Yo-yo around their hands. Ladybug summons Lucky Charm, plastic tubing and wraps it around Monarch, immobilizing him. As Ladybug pulls both of them down, Cat Noir activates Cataclysm to scare him if he attempted to escape. Monarch becomes surprised due to the sudden turn of events. Ladybug explains that when she got Philippe and Monarch's selfie notification, she came here in advance to change the real address and the statue. She tells him to surrender the Miraculouses or Cat Noir will cataclysm him.
But as she tries to take the Butterfly Miraculous, Monarch recklessly pulls Cat Noir and lets his forearm be touched by cataclysm. As he screams in pain, Ladybug and Cat Noir back away in horror. As both back away, Monarch uses Voyage to escape from the duo. When he is gone, Ladybug can't believe that she again failed, when the Kwamis were so close, and Cat Noir begs Ladybug to undo the effects of cataclysm with her superpower since after all behind Monarch's mask is a real person. But Ladybug tells him that she can't do anything since Monarch took the Lucky Charm with him. Both of them become devastated over the recent event.
At Alya's house, Marinette explains the recent events to her. But Alya tells her to explain the whole plan. So, Marinette explains her plan part by part to her but becomes sad at the end since she failed to recover the Miraculouses. Alya cheers her up by saying that it was the most amazing plan. She then comments on her broken phone that Monarch has to buy her a new one, and both laugh at it. Tikki watches and smiles at them, seeing Marinette in less stress.
At Agreste mansion, the scene from "Multiplication" plays, where Adrien confronts his father about being a model. But this time, it is from Gabriel's perspective. As Adrien talks to Gabriel, his forearm begins to shake. When Adrien leaves, Gabriel pulls up his sleeve to reveal a big black mark due to Cataclysm. The scene shifts to Hawk Moth's lair, where Gabriel is disintegrating the Miraculouses with the help of a device. After that, in Gabriel's atelier, Tomoe and Gabriel discuss something when Adrien interrupts them. After Adrien leaves, Tomoe agrees and gives Gabriel a small briefcase containing a small power orb. Back in his lair, he places the power orb in the device. It produces a beam, which remodels the disintegrated Miraculouses into Alliance Rings. After remodeling every Miraculous, he wears the Alliance ring outfit and the Miraculous rings on his fingers. As he asks the Kwamis about his new Miraculous, it shows each Kwami trapped in a small glass pod in a circular designed construction. He proceeds to wear gloves over his Miraculouses and transform into Monarch. He proclaims Ladybug and Cat Noir will not be able to trick him since his reign is about to begin.

Trivia
- Internationally, this episode first premiered in Brazil on Gloob.
- The episode shares its name with the concept of the Cat Miraculous.
- This is the second time Cataclysm is used on a real person, following the time Miraculer used the power on Cat Noir.
- This is the first time Cat Noir uses Cataclysm on a human being.
- Unlike the first time, Ladybug is unable to undo the damage, as Monarch escapes with her Lucky Charm.
- Just like the lipstick in "Oblivio", most likely her Lucky Charm disappeared when she de-transformed.
- It's shown that Cataclysm, when at least used on a transformed Miraculous holder, is able to affect their civilian form covering the struck area with black marks, but if a transformed Miraculous holder is left untreated, it's revealed in "Multiplication" and other episodes that, if so, it's similar to necrosis and will spread causing occasional irritation for the person.
- While on the contrary that this happened before but unlike Cat Noir, Monarch wasn't hit a vital area (for the most part) allowing him to survive.
- Even though, Cat Noir said that he wasn't sure what his Cataclysm would do if it struck Monarch, the hero either forgot, blocked it from his memory that he already knew as it happened to him in "Miraculer" or he just said it to intimidate him.
- However, it’s possible that Miraculer wasn’t using the pure version of the Cataclysm, and Cat Noir really didn’t know what his power would do, if he used it directly without alterations from other powers.
- Outside of the magical ladybugs or possibly Akumatization, Amokization and Sublimation, it's unknown if the guardians found any other means to heal or cure others who have been physically harmed by other forms of Miraculous magic.
- This is also the second time a Miraculous suit is damaged, with the first being during "Miraculer".
- Besides the super power of Cataclysm, the concept of destruction also was utilized in several aspects of the episode and others:
- Gabriel melts the Miraculouses to create them into something new with them, essentially destroying them.
- Mentally, Monarch also destroyed or at least put a crack in the heroes confidence.
- Cat Noir felt the same devastation of using his powers on someone as he did in "Miraculous New York" but to a lesser extent:
- Unlike the others time, it wasn't an accident or of his own free will but he knew that Monarch forced him to do it and he didn't surrender his ring either.
- Hawk Moth's relentless hunting, secrets, and stress destroyed or at least put cracks in the heroes relationship and with others, such as in "Glaciator", "Syren", "Frozer", "Cat Blanc", "Miracle Queen", "Truth", "Lies", "Gang of Secrets", "Kuro Neko", and later in "Elation".
- How Master Fu was right in "Kwamibuster", about one person being forbidden to use so many Miraculous, making said person lose or destroy their mental state such as with Monarch during "Evolution".
- How Chloé set up her own destruction for her reputation by siding with Hawk Moth during "The Battle of the Miraculous", and later in "Revolution".
- She also destroyed any chance she had reconciling her friendships as well as Marinette's confidence with her constant pranking in "Derision".
- When the Miraculouses are being used for evil by anyone they become their own form of destruction.
- How Gabriel's obsessive love indirectly destroyed everything while Cat Noir did it directly in "Cat Blanc".
- Because of their choices, Chloé and Gabriel ended up in a vicious cycle where they indirectly destroyed each other.
- Due to Cash's endless greed, he destroyed and hurt everything and anyone Fei ever cared about.
- The Cat Miraculous represents for people to remember that destruction isn't always bad, there are different kinds or that not everything needs to be physically destroyed to make a difference.
- Through the current Cat Miraculous holder, Adrien as Cat Noir, he used his powers to destroy something when he or Ladybug required to, meaning his destruction was controlled and within reason.
- Plagg even told Adrien that he has always used the powers of destruction for the greater good in "Transmission".
- Plagg mentioned in "Miraculous Paris", that destroying can be a good way to start over.
- For the case of many akumatized villains, everything they destroyed it was done out of malice, revenge and showing no restraint.
- In "Collusion" and "Revolution", Andre finally understood that a life of wealth and power was destroying his family and wanted to change his ways.
- Despite some holders being bad, but thanks to the guardians and other holders their destruction is rather limited.
- Especially when it came to most of the sentimonsters as they were a physical representative of negative emotions that if not let go of then the people they served would've destroyed themselves.
- Throughout the series shows how Gabriel went through the 3 forms of destruction, emotional when he lost Emilie, mental when he couldn't beat Team Miraculous and physical destruction fulfilling the prophecy in "Timetagger".
- Like how Shadybug and Claw Noir were emotionally destroyed but through the help of their light counterparts they destroyed their negative parts and gave themselves a new path.
- The good users of the Peacock Miraculous and the recipients of the amoks destroy their creations out of mercy, understanding and acceptance.
- How Felix destroyed everyone out of fear, revenge and without consideration in "Emotion".
- Through the current Cat Miraculous holder, Adrien as Cat Noir, he used his powers to destroy something when he or Ladybug required to, meaning his destruction was controlled and within reason.
- Black cats being a symbol of bad luck, destruction or misfortune in a sense shares some correlations with people.
- Similar to cats, when people come across misfortune while some do what they can to fix their mistakes, others for one reason or another run, hide or leave it alone.
- Like Adrien before he had any real friends he was always left alone in his home.
- This is the second time Cataclysm is used on a real person, following the time Miraculer used the power on Cat Noir.
- The events of this episode take place after the events of "Evolution" and during the events of "Miraculous Paris" and "Multiplication".
- Monarch appears in Marinette's room when Alya came for a sleep-over.
- Adrien comes to tell his father he didn't want to be a model anymore after the latter's confrontation with Ladybug and Cat Noir at Musée Grévin. The real reason why is because Gabriel was too busy itching and concerned about the mark on his arm from the Cataclysm.
- Gabriel melting the Miraculous in his possession (except for the Butterfly) to create his Alliance rings. Or if he didn’t melt the Miraculous, he could've stored them inside the kwamis' cages, happens before Tomoe Tsurugi's akumatization into Ikari Gozen.
- This shows what Tomoe Tsurugi was talking about in "Multiplication" when she was talking about how old things can have a purpose provided they are modernized.
- This is the fourth time Gabriel shushes a kwami, after "Sandboy", "Stormy Weather 2", and "Evolution".
- This is the sixteenth time where Adrien is a minor character after "Style Queen", "Cat Blanc", "Truth", "Gang of Secrets", "Mr. Pigeon 72", "Furious Fu", "Sole Crusher", "Guiltrip", "Crocoduel", "Optigami", "Sentibubbler", "Qilin", "Dearest Family", "Ephemeral" and "Penalteam".
- It's revealed that the power of the Rooster Miraculous, Sublimation, can't give the user the power of another kwami, a power that is in the form of a wish, or a power that interferes with the magic of other kwamis.
- However, this doesn't explain why Akumatization and Amokization can give powers similar to the kwamis.
- Because it's exactly as Xuppu said; as Hawk Moth, Gabriel could only copy or imprint his enhanced version such as prolonged transformations and multiple use of superpowers onto to others as that's all he knew of in "Volpina" and "Queen Wasp" and as of "Copycat" and "Antibug", he could only copy the duo's powers after he had seen them first.
- With each Miraculous superpower being unique and no adult holders being chosen outside of the added effect of akumatization not even he knew what the adult version is so it's impossible for him to copy the exact real version.
- However, this doesn't explain why Akumatization and Amokization can give powers similar to the kwamis.
- This episode reveals that Marinette took measures of her own in case Monarch took possession of any of the kwamis under her care, inventing a fake treasure hunt that would lead the villain to a trap that was virtually impossible to escape.
- This is the first episode in which the power Voyage is used and does not show the location on the other side of the portal.
- It could be another effect of Voyage when used by an adult they can close the other end of their portals while traveling through them making anyone else unable to see or travel them.
- It's revealed that Philippe continues to offer skating lessons even after the events of "Frozer".
- This is the second episode where there is no akumatized villain, following "Sentibubbler".
- This is also the first episode with no akumatized villains or sentimonsters.
- This episode is also the start of the prophecy Timetagger predicted about Gabriel's downfall as Monarch.
- The scenes that flashback to the events of "Truth", "Sapotis", and "Kwamibuster" are remade.
- In one of the flashbacks, Cat Noir says he could wait for Ladybug's "bug signal", which is a reference to the Bat Signal from Batman.
- It's shown that Nathalie, despite refusing to help Gabriel with his plans as Monarch, remains working for him but only as his executive assistant.
- Gabriel reformats all the Miraculous in his possession, except for the Butterfly, and remolds them into rings that he now uses on his new form as Monarch.
- Similar to "The Collector", both characters manage to fool the other to know his/her identity and their plan works out in the end.
- Similar to "Sandboy", both characters' plan didn't work in the end.
- According to Marinette, the kwamis don't know what an address is, but they have remarkable homing instincts to find their way home.
- With this in mind, the kwamis were active long before addresses were invented.
- That said, Roaar says "they don't know [Ladybug's] address", implying they at least have an idea what an address is, unless her line was just part of Marinette's script.
- This is the third episode in which the Miraculous Ladybug superpower isn't activated, following "Ladybug & Cat Noir" and "Catalyst".
- The spell that was placed on the kwamis also prevents them from speaking the name of their guardian to anyone and the other ways someone can learn a guardian's real name would be the guardian renouncing the Miracle Box the kwamis are housed in, the guardian reveals themselves on their own or is at least revealed by someone who isn't a kwami.
- But like in "Volpina" and "Ephemeral", the spell doesn't stop the kwami from showing where their owner or guardian lives.
- This is the twentieth time where Ladybug's Lucky Charm is an object that appeared in a previous episode. This time, it's plastic tubing that previously appeared in "Oni-Chan".
- This is the third time where the ice power is used, following "Frozer" and "Stormy Weather 2".
- This is the eleventh time where Plagg didn't make an appearance by any means.
- The third time where Ladybug grabs the Lucky Charm object instead of trying to catch it, following "Syren" and "Guiltrip".
- This is the second time Adrien pretends to be a wax statue, following "The Puppeteer 2".
- Coincidentally, this is the third appearance of the Grévin following "The Puppeteer 2" and "Hack-San".
- It's also revealed that before the events of "Truth" and "Lies", Ladybug gave Cat Noir a small piece of paper that said, "Halfwit" and kept it in his bell, in case Gabriel ever got his hands on any Miraculouses and forced the kwamis to tell him where Ladybug lives. So basically, Cat Noir had that in his bell during the entirety of season 4.
- Back when dealing with the Lollipop Boy sentimonster in "Miraculer", Ladybug didn't use a Lucky Charm to defeat it and only used her yo-yo to repair the damage but for this incident she didn't because Monarch escaped with it.
- Meaning that both Ladybug's powers are directly linked after all or with her so devastated she forgot that she can repair damage even without a Lucky Charm.
- This episode marks the fifteenth time Hawk Moth is seen out of his lair following "Simon Says", "Queen Wasp", "Heroes Day", "Miraculous Shanghai", "Animaestro", "Backwarder", "Ladybug", "Cat Blanc", "Miracle Queen", "Miraculous New York", "Optigami", "Sentibubbler", "Strikeback" and "Evolution".
- This episode, and "Evolution" show how little Gabriel knows about kwamis.
- Just like in "Bakerix", Alya complains "That's censorship" when the villain steals her phone.
- This is one of the several times Gabriel was close to victory without knowing it.
- This is the first time Gabriel, as Monarch, has been seen in Marinette's room.
- Despite him never knowing what Marinette's room looked like Monarch made it there. It could be that he was thinking about Marinette when the kwamis gave him the clue or he remembered what her room looked like from the times his akumatized victims been in her room as he could see through the eyes of his champions.
- The crack on Emilie's coffin Gabriel made in "Risk" can be seen during the scene in the Crypt.
- The scene of Adrien telling his father that he would not like to continue modelling is reanimated from "Multiplication".
- There were four empty spots in Monarch’s holder for the Miraculous which could be for the Ladybug, Cat, Peacock and Rabbit Miraculous.
- This is the thirteenth time in which Ladybug and Cat Noir don't do their signature trademark "Pound It" following "Kuro Neko", "Hack-San", "Ladybug", "Cat Blanc", "Style Queen", "Malediktator", "Despair Bear", "Animan", "Princess Fragrance", "The Pharaoh", "Timebreaker", and "Stoneheart".
- Upon capturing Monarch, the heroes could see that he was wearing every other Miraculous except the Peacock, and remembering Felix's actions, they likely figured out that he has it. Meaning what they figured out in "Multiplication" was true but with Monarch being the bigger threat they decided to leave Felix alone at least until Paris is safe.
- This is the second time where damage caused by a Miraculous holder, akumatized victim or a sentimonster remains following "Miraculous New York".
- This is the seventh time where the background summoning sequence is different this time with a more reddish color following "Frightningale", "Weredad", "Oblivio", "Miraculous New York", "Optigami" and "Sentibubbler".
Errors
- When Monarch first appears in Marinette's room, Marinette is missing her right sideburn.
- When Gabriel asks the kwamis for Ladybug's real name, the spell that prevents the kwamis from revealing their holder's name or their Guardian's is activated. However, Nooroo is also affected by the spell, despite the fact he is the only kwami in Gabriel's possession that doesn't know who Ladybug is.
- It could be due to the Miracle Box itself, as Nooroo and his Miraculous still belonged to the Mother Box and that the magic spell still works regardless of any condition in Nooroo's case, whether a kwami knows a guardian or not.
- Marinette's sewing box is shown when Marinette encounters Monarch in her room despite that Marinette put her sewing box in her chest in "Multiplication".
- However, given that this episode takes place completely within "Multiplication"'s time frame, the moment where Marinette stores her box may have come after the events of this episode.
- When Gabriel transforms into Monarch in the Crypt, he says "Unify", although it's confirmed that if someone wants to transform in civilian form with multiple kwamis (in this case four), they have to say "Quadruple Morphosis"
- If Monarch used Voyage to go from one place to another directly during the treasure hunt (as it was impossible to see the origin of the portal), then that creates an inconsistency with Ladybug's plan. After Philippe takes a selfie with Monarch and the latter goes to the Grévin, he meets with Verónique immediately. That would mean that they wouldn't be able to set the trap in time.
- The only way the plan would be successful was if Ladybug managed to contact Cat Noir without Philippe's selfie.
- Although it's possible that Monarch teleported around the rink and the museum until he met both Phillipe and Véronique.
- Another possibility is that Adrien saw Alya's live showing Monarch in Marinette's room and entered in contact with Ladybug soon after.
- Ladybug planned all this in advance as she mentioned doing this when she first became the guardian.
- The only way the plan would be successful was if Ladybug managed to contact Cat Noir without Philippe's selfie.
- When Ladybug has restrained Monarch, Barkk has an inconsistent colour switching from orange to light pink.
- When Monarch teleports after being cataclysmed, the Ox, Dragon, Mouse and Fox Miraculouses are in their charged mode instead of activated mode.
- In the flashback of Ladybug and Véronique setting up the trap, the statues around them are covered and seem to be the statues from "Determination", despite the scene takinng place shortly after Marinette became the guardian.
- Furthermore, the statue of a knight can be seen in Cat Noir's photo.
- When Marinette was recounting the plan to Alya, Kaalki is seen without her mane in the flashback.
- When Gabriel destroyed all the Miraculous, the dust like material that is made from them is the same size when each of the Miraculouses are different sizes.
- There are some errors about the appearance of the Horse Miraculous:
- The activated mode of the Miraculous looks like normal glasses instead of sunglasses.
- The five light points are missing in its charged mode.
- The activated version model is used for the charged mode.
- To divide Kaalki and the other kwamis, Gabriel says only "Divide" without saying the names of the kwamis he wants to divide.
- However it might not be an error. In the episode, every time he says "Divide", he divides all the kwamis except Nooroo. That might be because when he transformed, he said Nooroo's name first: Nooroo, Kaalki, Pollen.... So it might be a new way to divide all the kwamis except for the kwami he first transformed with.
- In Marinette's flashback, when Marinette is trying to teach the kwamis to trick Shadow Moth from finding out her both identities as Ladybug and the Guardian, Fluff is not shown with the kwamis when they repeat: "That’s it. Then you have to ask for the gift.". In the next scene, Fluff is shown with the kwamis but in the later scene, Fluff however is not shown when the kwamis repeat: "In case we got lost..."
- When Gabriel transforms into Monarch, he has all the weapons he is supposed to have. But in some scenes some of the weapons (especially the Shield) are missing.
- Before Alya walks into Marinette's bedroom, when Marinette is handing the keychain to Monarch, her left eye is squinted shut, and her right eye is closed normally.
- When Monarch is threatening to immobilize Marinette, all the kwamis around him are in A-poses.
- In the German dub Alya incorrectly says Monarch got akumatized instead of cataclysmed.
- At the end of the episode, Monarch's rings on his right hand are miscolored gray.
