The kwamis' choice is transforming Paris.
Plot
Adrien has his TV tuned to TVi's report of the events following "Transmission" at the scene of Kikou's defeat: Les Olympiades. Clara Contard is interviewing the new holders of the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses: Scarabella and Kitty Noire. Clara asks if Ladybug and Cat Noir were forced to step down. Scarabella declines to answer directly, but she does say that their predecessors have nothing to feel guilty about. Kitty Noire adds that like their predecessors, they will accomplish their mission of ending Monarch's reign.
Clara then remarks Ladybug and Cat Noir may have renounced their Miraculouses to live their supposed love story. Scarabella answers that neither Ladybug and Cat Noir nor her and Kitty Noire are in love or in a relationship. Clara then asks for their names. The new heroes introduce themselves as their new hero personas then leave. The program cuts to Nadja who wishes Scarabella and Kitty Noire luck in their mission.
Adrien turns off his TV. He checks his phone for messages from Marinette, there are none. He walks over to his foosball table, places a ball, and sadly knocks the ball into the goal to his right. He checks his phone for messages from Marinette again, still nothing. He dejectedly lies his torso on the foosball table.
Scarabella swings back to her apartment, lands in her room and detransforms into Alya. She asks Tikki how she did as Scarabella. Tikki sadly says she was fantastic. This makes Alya believe she screwed up. Tikki reassures Alya she did great, she just misses Marinette. Tikki hears Ella and Etta about to barge into Alya's room, so she hides in her fanny pack. The twins inform Alya Marinette has arrived. Marinette gives the twins the chouquettes she brought and the twins run off cheering. Marinette expresses her approval of Tikki's choice for a new holder. Tikki comes out of hiding and hugs Marinette's face. Alya remarks that Marinette's mood has improved.
Marinette suddenly gets a call from Adrien, she answers flustered. He tells her he left his bag at her place, he asks if he can come get it, to which she refuses. Marinette tells Adrien she'll bring him his bag tomorrow and hangs up. Marinette embarrassedly sits down and covers her face with her hands. Alya asks what happened with Marinette and Adrien. Marinette tells her about Adrien's hand raising idea. Marinette worriedly asks Alya about if she thinks Kitty Noire and Scarabella can handle Monarch and that Alya must keep her identity from her boyfriend Nino. Alya tells her not to worry about it, as it's now on Scarabella and Kitty to carry that burden. Alya tells Marinette to focus on Adrien instead.
On the roof of Le Grand Paris, Kitty Noire detransforms into Zoé. Plagg congratulates Zoé on her victory, he remarks she'd be the perfect holder if she had a cheese cellar. She tells him Le Grand Paris is home to the largest cheese cellar in Paris. This pleases Plagg immensely. Zoé warns Plagg to be careful, to which he agrees and hides in her hat. Zoé takes the elevator down to the sixth floor, where the restaurant's cheese cellar is. Zoé sneaks into the kitchen to find her half sister Chloé eating ice cream. Chloé blows up at Zoé. She apologizes to her half sister and asks how she can make it up to her. Chloé gets Zoé to carry a bunch of her shoes to Zoé's room to clean. Plagg, furious at how Zoé is treated by Chloé, suggests he Cataclysm her. Zoé tells him not to. Plagg expresses his fury over Zoé's mistreatment again. She tells Plagg she has to lay low in order to conceal her secret identity.
Gabriel rises into his atelier, he smiles and begins to dance to a song playing on a radio. He dances out his atelier door into the foyer, he dances up the stairs to slide down the banister where he stops in front of his assistant Nathalie. Nathalie asks what has gotten into him. Gabriel asks if she can smell something. She asks him if he's making pancakes, to which Gabriel denies. He exclaims it's even better and twirls her around. Gabriel brings Nathalie to his atelier and activates his Alliance. It has recorded data beyond normal human capabilities from two other Alliances: Alya's and Zoé's. Nathalie congratulates Gabriel, he triumphantly asks Nathalie if she can now smell the scent of victory as he descends into his lair. Nathalie looks at the painting of Emilie with concern. Gabriel talks to his comatose wife about his imminent victory. Nathalie, in her room, expresses her worries about Gabriel's plans to her phone with videos of Emilie.
Gabriel tells his captive kwamis they will play their parts in his plan and his knowledge of the secret identities of Scarabella and Kitty Noire. Gabriel transforms into Monarch. He takes the Miraculous superpowers of Pollen, Mullo, Orikko, Stompp, and Kaalki. He uses Voyage to teleport to François Dupont. Daizzi asks Sass what they can do to stop Monarch. Sass replies he fears they can do nothing.
At Françoise Dupont's boiler room, the Resistance holds a meeting to pay tribute to Ladybug and Cat Noir, show their support for Scarabella and Kitty Noire, and announce the change of the Ladyblog into the Scarablog. Adrien and Marinette show concern for Ladybug and Cat Noir. Adrien assures Marinette Cat Noir is okay. Nino goes over the Anti-Akumatization System. An app developed by Max and Markov. When the exclamation mark button is pressed, a signal is sent to a box in the boiler room which broadcasts the warning music written by Kitty Section throughout the school. Everyone cheers except Lila. Kim, Mylène, and Ivan are in charge of evacuation, Rose, Juleka, Zoé, and Max try to calm down the akumatized victim, and Nathaniel, Adrien, Marinette, Alya, and Nino gear up with condiment squirting guns if the victim is fully akumatized.
The bell rings, dismissing the kids for lunch. Nino asks Alya why they weren't picked as the new Ladybug and Cat Miraculous holders as he believed they were great as Rena Rouge and Carapace, Alya replies they would have to lie to each other to protect their secret identities. Nino is okay with this, he tells Alya she doesn't have to be super to be his hero. Nino and Alya leave for the cafeteria. Unbeknownst to everyone, Monarch was there invisible. He pulls the cables to the box, sabotaging the Resistance's plan. Monarch uses Multitude to split into five and runs towards the unsuspecting Miraculous holders.
In the cafeteria, Zoé places some camembert on her plate and drops a piece in her bag for Plagg, making him happy. Two invisible Monarchs follow Zoé to her seat, two other Monarchs are waiting by Alya, and the fifth Monarch is crouched atop a light fixture. Adrien pulls out a seat for Marinette to which she sits in. Marinette's friends cheer her on quietly. Adrien asks Marinette about the heart of palm and if it reminds her of something. Lila tells Chloé she is generous to let Marinette get close to Adrien. Chloé asks her Alliance to define generous, which it fails. Chloé barks at Sabrina to define the word generous. She politely asks her Alliance to define the word generous, which succeeds. The definition angers Chloé, making her want to ruin Marinette's time with Adrien.
Marinette tries to get her hand to move to hold Adrien's hand, but it's frozen in fear. Adrien tells her she doesn't have to hold his hand if she isn't ready and they can just be friends. Marinette blurts out she doesn't want to be friends, Adrien dejectedly says he understands. Marinette exclaims she didn't mean that and that her hand shall obey her, she continues to force her hand toward Adrien, but ends up falling over. Chloé walks over and claims Marinette is back where she belongs, at her feet. Zoé stands up to defend her friend, but she gets cold feet. Adrien steps in to defend Marinette. He lends Marinette his hand and helps her back to her seat. Chloé claims that he's being too nice to her and laughs as she tells Adrien that Marinette is in love with him.
Already aware of this, Adrien calls her out on her cruel behavior and tells her to return to her seat while he returns to his. Chloé continues her attempts to humiliate Marinette, but her friends defend her and Zoé stands up to her half sister. Chloé threatens Zoé with their mother, saying she'll send Zoé back to New York. Zoé, not intimidated by this threat, takes Chloé back to her seat, telling her that she could care less about being sent back to New York. Everyone in the cafeteria congratulates Zoé for her actions, angering Chloé further for being humiliated.
Monarch, sensing Chloé's hatred and rage, akumatizes her into Sole Destroyer. Nino tries to activate the Anti-Akumatization System, but the alarm doesn't go off. Nino rolls with it and puts the next part of the plan into action. Mylène and Max try to help their fellow students escape Sole Destroyer's wrath, but they're transformed into singing shoes. The Monarchs remark their plan is in motion, one Monarch recombines with the other four Monarchs. Two Monarchs follow Zoé and the other two follow Alya. Marinette and Adrien hide under their table, where Sole Destroyer finds her. Sole Destroyer swings her leg at Marinette, missing as Adrien pulls Marinette back. Adrien throws a chair at Sole Destroyer to distract her so he and Marinette can get away. Zoé runs into the locker room. Plagg praises Zoé's earlier intervention.
Zoé attempts to transform, but the Monarchs strike her and Plagg with Venom. A Monarch takes the Cat Miraculous. Alya runs into a stall in the girl's bathroom to transform, but both she and Tikki are struck by the Venom wielding Monarchs. A Monarch grabs the Ladybug Miraculous. The two groups of Monarchs use Voyage to teleport to Arènes de Lutèce, where he puts on the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous. Monarch unfreezes the kwamis. Plagg tries to Cataclysm Monarch, but he has Resistance activated, leaving his Cataclysm unable to harm him. Having no other option to prevent Monarch from achieving victory, Plagg and Tikki fly away. Monarch recites the unification phrase, pulling Tikki and Plagg back toward their Miraculouses, but the kwamis resist the transformation. Plagg tells Tikki to summon her Lucky Charm for Ladybug so she can get their Miraculouses back and stop Monarch, so Tikki does so. The unification nearly completes, but Plagg Cataclysms the Cat Miraculous, destroying it.
This leaves Monarch and Tikki in a huge crater, wanton destruction across Paris, and sends the Lucky Charm to Marinette. She realizes that her having the Lucky Charm means Alya is out of commission, so she attempts to call her best friend. Monarch awakens to see the Cat Miraculous crumble to dust. Tikki also awakens, but Monarch orders her to stay put. Marinette's call reaches Alya voicemail. Nino helps Adrien up, asking him where Scarabella and Kitty Noire are. Adrien replies they're most likely busy elsewhere in Paris.
Marinette escapes to the girl's washroom to find Alya paralyzed. Marinette pieces the clues together to realize that Monarch is behind this. Marinette makes her way home with the Lucky Charm and a trash bin to execute her plan. Sole Destroyer kicks Sabrina, turning her into a singing shoe. The hiding Adrien and Nino wonder where Marinette and Alya are. Nino believes Sole Destroyer transformed them. Adrien gets an alert on his phone from TVi. Clara in her helicopter reports on Monarch's theft of the Ladybug Miraculous. With the superheroes down, Nino and Adrien gather the Resistance to reclaim the stolen Miraculous and return them to their rightful holders. Marinette readies herself to face Monarch.
Monarch orders Tikki to explain the situation. She explains to him how Plagg destroyed his Miraculous and himself with it. Monarch demands that Tikki provide a solution to bring Plagg back and his Miraculous with him. Tikki tells Monarch he must toss the Lucky Charm in the air and call out his Miraculous Monarch Bug. Monarch commands Tikki to tell him where the Lucky Charm is. Tikki replies she doesn't know, she entrusted the Lucky Charm to the universe and doesn't know where it is. Marinette, dressed as Ladybug in a motorcycle helmet makes her appearance. Monarch claims that she is powerless at the moment because he possesses her kwami and Miraculous. Marinette explains that Tikki and Plagg have triggered a series of events that can only be repaired by Miraculous Ladybug which requires the Lucky Charm she possesses in tandem with the Ladybug Miraculous Monarch possesses. Monarch remarks it will also bring back the Cat Miraculous too.
He uses Voyage to take possession of the Lucky Charm and transforms into Monarch Bug. He calls out his Miraculous Monarch Bug but is duped by a fake Lucky Charm Marinette made. Marinette uses this opportunity to try to take back her Miraculous, but Monarch Bug throws her off him. He attempts to paralyze her, but to his misfortune, Nino stands in his way. He is joined by the Resistance who spray Monarch Bug with condiments to keep him visible. Rose and Juleka threaten Monarch Bug with a captive Sole Destroyer, but he releases Sole Destroyer's megakuma, reverting her back into Chloé.
Adrien takes the opportunity of this distraction to take the Ladybug Miraculous. Monarch attempts to take it back, but is dogpiled by Ivan, Kim, and Rose. Adrien hands over the Ladybug Miraculous to Marinette. She thanks him and transforms into Ladybug. She calls out her Miraculous Ladybug, which fixes the calamity and the Cat Miraculous, bringing Plagg back. Ladybug reacts quickly and takes back the Cat Miraculous. In doing so, she sees Monarch has reconfigured the Miraculous into rings. He takes her surprise as an opportunity to escape from her grasp. Marinette tries to capture him again with her yo-yo, but Monarch uses Multitude to escape her and return to his lair via Voyage. Monarch recombines, wipes his face of the condiments, and laments Ladybug and the Resistance's victory.
At Marinette's house, in her room along with Alya, Tikki, and Plagg question how Monarch figured out Scarabella and Kitty Noire's secret identities so quickly. Marinette observes while Scarabella and Kitty Noire were figured out, Monarch hasn't figured out Ladybug or Cat Noir's secret identities. Marinette tells Plagg to give his Miraculous back to Cat Noir. Plagg asks to say goodbye to Kitty Noire first, Marinette obliges. Zoé, in her room, is curled up in a ball, sad because she believes she failed as Kitty Noire. Plagg comforts her and convinces her that she was an exceptional holder and very brave for standing up to Chloé. He tells Zoé to not let anyone push her around. Zoé gifts Plagg a wrapped slice of camembert. This makes Plagg ecstatic. He exclaims he was proud to be Zoé's kwami and leaves for Adrien's house. As she watches Plagg leave, her smile fades to a frown and then she curls back up into a ball. Later that night at the Jardins du Trocadéro, Ladybug and Cat Noir remark their duo is the only successful formula. They congratulate their kwamis and the Resistance and pound it in honor of them.

Trivia
- Internationally, this episode first premiered in Brazil on Globoplay.
- This is the second season 5 episode that is not named after the concept of a Miraculous, the first being "Reunion". It's interestingly the only episode of the eight not to have a name which starts with either "R" or "C".
- The concept of deflagration, which means "the heating of a substance until it burns away rapidly", is applied to the calamity caused by Tikki and Plagg when they use their Miraculous superpowers to prevent Monarch from using their respective Miraculouses to grant his wish, with Plagg using his Cataclysm to destroy his Cat Miraculous and Tikki using her Lucky Charm to create an object for Marinette in order to help her fight Monarch and get the two Miraculouses back from him. The consequences of the use of their respective Miraculous superpowers causes a successive wave of creation and subsequent destruction that threatens to destroy not only Paris, but the whole world unless reverted.
- It went opposite of how the Ultimate Miraculous Absolute Power was described in "Ephemeral".
- The term deflagration was also shown in an emotional point of view in some episodes:
- In "Animan", Cat Noir felt immense anger and worry upon believing the titular villain had eaten Ladybug alive, but his anger burned away upon the relief that she was safe.
- In "Rocketear", Nino felt anger towards Cat Noir for "stealing" Alya from him, leading to his akumatization into the titular villain, but then it burned away into remorse upon learning what really happened that night he found the pair.
- In "Miraculous Paris", Shadybug and Claw Noir were burning up with anger over the pain of their lives but when they talked with their counterparts it burned away into sadness then into new strength to start their new lives.
- During the previous episode, "Transmission", after being freed from their roles as Miraculous holders, Marinette's and Adrien's sadness burned away and turned into joy at the chance their kwamis gave them.
- In "Emotion", when Felix was burning up with anger and hatred towards oppressors, then it burned away and turned into remorse, guilt and fear towards his actions.
- In "Pretension", Marinette let her courage burn up when confronting Gabriel, then burn out when she left.
- Scarabella and Kitty Noire are formally introduced to all of Paris, with the latter revealing her superhero name.
- Despite this being Scarabella's formal introduction to the people of Paris, she has already saved the city before during the events of "Hack-San". However, because everyone was under Robostus' control, they don't remember her.
- This is the second time an unidentified character can be heard singing a song after Stationation in "Party Crasher". Contrary to popular belief, Gabriel doesn't sing nor lip-synch "Snapping My Fingers" when he is briefly seen dancing to the song. Instead, it is sung by Fred Lenoir for an unknown singer on the radio Gabriel regularly listens to.[3]
- Because Wilfried Pain mentions that the song comes from the radio and Gabriel wears an Alliance ring outside his gloves, this indicates that the Alliance rings have a radio mode. However, unlike the other modes, it's likely radio mode doesn't have a holographic screen since it is never seen throughout his dance number.
- The song is later reused in the episode "Emotion", this time sang by Argos as he snaps his fingers to make all the Parisians disappear. In the English dub, Argos' rendition is the in-universe cover of the song.
- An instrumental of the song is playing in the background in "Illusion" while Gabriel is making pancakes for Adrien, and when the latter and Marinette enter the kitchen in "Pretension".
- "Snapping My Fingers" is currently the first known song where the original French version is left untranslated and can be heard across various dubs. According to Wilfried Pain, this is not an error and intentionally wants the song to be left untranslated because the French version is the international version.[4]
- However, despite the intention, the song has been dubbed in the Brazilian Portuguese and Catalan versions.
- Parts of Viperion's transformation sequence music briefly play when Gabriel announces Scarabella and Kitty Noire to Nathalie.
- It's revealed that Zoé, Marc, and Nathaniel are also part of the Resistance. However, it is never revealed on what their code names are by the end of season 5.
- The Resistance has developed a protocol for the eventuality that an akumatization happens in the school, involving an alarm to warn everyone at school, evacuating all the students, and using any calming techniques to cast away any negative emotions the target may be feeling in order to help them fight the akumatization.
- The Resistance wield condiment guns, which are similar to Hot Dog Dan's guns, and the Inklings' Splattershot guns from Splatoon.
- When Nino questions why Ladybug and Cat Noir hadn't pick him and Alya, he claims to Alya she would have made an awesome Ladybug. Ironically, Nino does not know Alya is Scarabella, especially since he also does not know Alya knows who Ladybug is and the latter entrusted the former with her miraculous.
- Also, Nino didn't know Plagg consider having him as his new holder in the previous episode, but considering Nino and Alya tell each other everything, especially they both know each other as Rena Rouge and Carapace, Plagg decided to chose Zoé.
- This is the third time Monarch uses Venom, Voyage, Multitude and Sublimation to create invisible clones of himself that can teleport as well as immobilize people, following "Miraculous Paris" and "Illusion".
- Lila is seen making use of her "friendship" with Chloé to disturb Marinette's love story with Adrien, manipulating Chloé into interrupting their romantic lunch.
- This is the ninth time Chloé gets akumatized, following "Antibug", "Queen Wasp", "Mayura", "Miracle Queen", "Queen Banana", "Penalteam" and 2 off-screen akumatizations that were revealed in "Mr. Pigeon 72". This time, however, she gets akumatized into Sole Destroyer, her sixth akumatized form overall.
- Interestingly, this akumatized form is a variation of Zoé's akumatized form, Sole Crusher.
- This is the fourth two-part episode in which Chloé is akumatized, following "Queen's Battle", "Heroes' Day" and "The Battle of the Miraculous".
- This is also the fourth time Chloé is willingly akumatized, following "Miracle Queen", "Queen Banana" and "Penalteam".
- Sole Destroyer is also the first akumatized supervillain not to receive a Miraculous superpower through an Alliance in season 5.
- This is the only time on-screen that Chloé was fully akumatized with her wearing only her default outfit (excluding "Miraculer", as she only ever got infected with the Akuma).
- Chloé is the second character to possess two akumatized forms with the same akumatized object, with Alya being the first in "Oblivio" and "Félix".
- This is the third time, after Queen Wasp and Mayura where Chloé had no memory/recollection when she was akumatized as Sole Destroyer.
- This is the third time an akumatized villain use their shoes as a weapon after "Sole Crusher" and "Penalteam".
- However, this is the second time that an akumatized villainous form of Chloé has used her shoes as a weapon, after "Penalteam".
- This is the seventh time footwear is used after "Timebreaker", "Frozer", "Heroes' Day", "Gang of Secrets", "Sole Crusher" and "Penalteam".
- This is the first time someone reuses a power previously summoned through the use of Sublimation.
- This is the first time where Gabriel gets both the Ladybug Miraculous and Cat Miraculous in the permanent timeline, though he loses them thanks to the Resistance, who helped Ladybug get them back.
- Monarch loses the Cat Miraculous twice, as he lost it when Plagg used his Miraculous superpower to destroy the it, which is later restored by Ladybug's Miraculous Ladybug, only to lose it again to Ladybug.
- This is also the fifth time where Monarch obtains one or more Miraculouses, but loses them following "Miraculer", "Miracle Queen", "Miraculous New York" and "Evolution".
- It's revealed that kwamis can actually be directly affected by the Miraculous superpowers of other kwamis, as Monarch was able to use Venom, Pollen's Miraculous superpower, on both Plagg and Tikki. Not just that, but they remain affected by the Miraculous superpower even after returning to their respective Miraculous, as they remained paralyzed after Monarch took their Miraculous and then put them on, summoning the two kwamis who were still immobilized.
- This has already been hinted, as it has already been shown that kwamis can be indirectly affected by other kwami Miraculous superpowers through their owner, like akumatization.
- It's shown that the user of Venom can undo the effects of its power over someone with a snap of fingers, evidenced by how Monarch was able to free Tikki and Plagg from their paralyzed state.
- Another weakness of Resistance was revealed:
- According to Plagg, if someone who's currently under the effects of Resistance puts on or holds an object after they activated the power, the object in question won't be protected by it. This was shown when Monarch put on the Cat Miraculous after he activated the ability, which mean that the ring wasn't impervious to superpowers, enabling Plagg to use his Cataclysm directly on it and not be nullified.
- This implies either a similar situation to this has happened before, Stompp was in a situation where Resistance was activated and then Stompp or a Miraculous holder of his held or worn item was broken, or the kwamis simply know how their Miraculous superpowers interact with each other inherently.
- Resistance doesn't protect user's body from something that doesn't count as an attack or at least the weakness of another power.
- If someone is Kamikotized or Akumatized the holder can snap their fingers to release them and the akuma/Kamiko turns back into a butterfly and is purifed but the person will have no memory/recollection of their time except on certain people.
- It's revealed that Multitude users can control how many clones they can revert to after they have already split.
- It's revealed that to revert to a smaller number of clones, the user has to say "Fall in".
- This is the eighth time where a kwami uses their Miraculous superpowers on their own onscreen, following "Style Queen", "Catalyst", "Gang of Secrets", "Sole Crusher", "Optigami", "Dearest Family" and "Ephemeral", and the first time a kwami does so in season 5.
- This is the third known time where Plagg used his Miraculous superpower without an owner onscreen following "Style Queen" and "Catalyst".
- This is the second known time where Tikki used her Miraculous superpower without an owner onscreen following "Dearest Family".
- This is first known time where two kwamis used their Miraculous superpowers onscreen in the same episode.
- This is the second known time where Plagg attempted to Cataclysm someone onscreen following "Ephemeral" but since the events were undone by Sass, this is technically the first time Plagg attempted to Cataclysm someone onscreen in the permanent timeline.
- This is the first known time Plagg has Cataclysmed his own Miraculous onscreen.
- Plagg is second behind Kaalki in using their Miraculous superpowers the most in an episode onscreen, using Cataclysm twice, but he holds the record for the most times his Miraculous was destroyed onscreen with a total of three.
- Marinette and Adrien now know that Monarch destroyed the original forms of the stolen Miraculouses and turned them into rings, along with them and the rest of the Resistance seeing him in his new form for the first time.
- This is the sixteenth time where an akumatized object wasn't destroyed.
- Following "Dearest Family", when Tikki is calm, she can use her power in a minor scale, in the same way her holders use, creating random objects that are necessary to solve a problem but when she does that, her power of creation gets out of control and keeps creating random objects around.
- Back in "Style Queen", when Plagg mentioned that Ladybug needed to repair everything quickly likely meant that Plagg's power doesn't only destroy the area where the power is used, but it would spread.
- This also gives us more insight about the Ultimate Miraculous Absolute Power:
- The power will only work if both the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses, as well as their respective kwamis, are intact.
- But due to Plagg destroying his Miraculous, the unification process was disrupted making it the first known time that happened.
- This episode confirms from "Sandboy", that any user of the Ladybug Miraculous can use a Lucky Charm even if they're not the summoner as long as they wear the earrings.
- When Monarch noticed that the Cat Miraculous was destroyed and heard Tikki's explaination, he figured out what happens to a kwami in said situation despite him unintentionally or accidentally doing it before such as in "Timebreaker" and "Miraculous Shanghai".
- This is the third time where a fake Lucky Charm was made, following "Silencer" and "Psycomedian". Like in "Silencer", Monarch was fooled by mimicry.
- Marinette wore a similar disguise from "Feast", but this time she made it look like her upgraded suit.
- This is the first time that the Resistance directly fights Monarch himself, with Nino, Alya, Marinette and Adrien doing it in their civilian form for the first time.
- This is the first episode where Zoé's room is shown.
- Like in "Style Queen", "Plagg" and "Miraculer", Plagg mentioned what he did to the dinosaurs.
- Plagg and Tikki ask a question similar to Ladybug's in "Jubilation", unknown that they already have the answer.
- Following "Evolution", a new unification is revealed: Monarch Bug.
- This is the fourth episode where someone else other than Marinette Dupain-Cheng wields the Ladybug Miraculous, the first being in "Reflekdoll" and "Passion" with Adrien, and Alya in "Hack-San".
- This makes Gabriel the fourth main cast member to be Ladybug Miraculous holder, after Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Adrien Agreste and Alya Césaire.
- He is also the sixth person of French origins to wield the Ladybug Miraculous following Jeanne d'Arc, Aramis and temporarily succeeding Marinette, Adrien and Alya.
- He is also the third male to wield the Ladybug Miraculous following Micazoyolin and his son, and the second French male to wield the Cat Miraculous following his son.
- When being caught by Monarch and trying to escape him, the kwamis took a page from their owner's book as Plagg, similar to Cat Noir, was quick to react without thinking and sacrificed himself to keep hope alive by destroying his own Miraculous and Tikki from Ladybug feeling sad over her counterpart's sacrifice and had a desire to make the most of it but couldn't.
- This is the sixth time where the heroes sit on a rooftop with a view of the Eiffel Tower following "The Dark Owl", "Lies", "Hack-San", "Kuro Neko" and "Jubilation".
- The is the fifth time where both holders are separated from their Miraculouses and kwamis in a single episode following "Reflekdoll", "Feast", "Passion" and "Transmission".
- This is the first time ever where both holders are separated from their Miraculouses and kwamis in back to back episodes.
- Like Marinette in "Style Queen", Alya officially meets Plagg.
- This episode begins where the previous episode left off, but unlike "The Collector", "Truth" and "Evolution" it isn't a season opener.
- Similarly to "Origins", "The Queens Battle", "Heroes Day", "The Battle of Miraculous", "Truth" and "Lies", "Shadow Moth's Final Attack", "Evolution" along with "Multiplication" and "Destruction", these episodes take place during the same day.
- Also taking it into consideration this is the fourth time where Cataclysm is used three times in a single episode following "Copycat", "Timetagger" and "Dearest Family".
- Chloé's jealousy against Marinette dating Adrien is a callback to "Cat Blanc", but instead happening in the alternative future, it happens in the permanent timeline.
- Like in "Transmission" it is further evidenced how Adrien and Lila are no longer friends, as she did not want to sit with him this time unlike in "Illusion". Lila too once again uses Chloé to interrupt a romantic moment between Marinette and Adrien.
- This is the second time a Miraculous Holder attacks a civilian following "Félix".
- When Rose, Kim and Ivan went up to the Monarch, the background is the same colors as their Miraculouses.
- This is the third time Monarch revokes the akuma, following "Catalyst (Heroes' Day - Part 1)" and "Heart Hunter (The Battle of the Miraculous - Part 1)".
Errors
- The first English dub release featured the episode's title as "The Kwamis's Choice - Part 2" in the title card. This was changed for the US premiere of the episode.
- In the background of the news report at the beginning of the episode, the firefighter and the dark-haired woman are in default T-poses.

- The Miraculouses of the clones who watch Alya are gone entirely.
- In the English dub, when Marinette is in Alya's room, the former incorrectly refers to Kitty Noire as a "he".
