The Cat Miraculous[1], also known as the Black Cat Miraculous, is a ring that, whenever Plagg inhabits it, transforms the wearer into a black cat-themed superhuman with the power of Destruction.
To activate the ring, its user must speak the transformation phrase: Claws Out. To deactivate the ring, its user must speak the detransformation phrase: Claws In. To activate the ring for evil purposes, the user must speak the transformation phrase: Daggers Out. To deactivate the ring, the user must speak the detransformation phrase: Daggers In.
The ring is currently owned by Adrien Agreste, who uses it to transform into Cat Noir.
In "Miraculous Paris", it is revealed that an alternate version of the Cat Miraculous in the Re-Verse is used by a supervillain version of Adrien who used it to transform into Claw Noir. After the main version of Adrien managed to get through to him and convinced him to change for the better, the alternate Adrien, now a superhero, changed his name to Furry Paw.
Moreover, "Miraculous Paris" revealed other parallel universes and the users of the Cat Miraculous in them: an alternate version of Zoé Lee who uses the ring to transform into Kitty Noire, and an alternate version of Marinette Dupain-Cheng who uses the Miraculous to become Lady Noire.
Appearance
In charged mode, the ring has a thick band with a circle surface surrounded by a lining with four pointed diamond shapes on each diagonal side. It's black with a glowing chartreuse cat paw print in the middle of the circle. If a minor is using the ring, it’ll start running out of power if they've activated Cataclysm, making a beeping sound, with one pad of the paw print disappearing every minute as an indication (one paw print is equivalent to one minute) Adrien (or another Cat Miraculous holder) has left before they detransform.
- In Season 6 onwards, the ring is now a dark gray color and the paw print has claws.
In activated mode, it loses the paw print making the ring pure black.
In camouflage mode, the ring changes form depending on who wears it:
- When worn by Adrien Agreste, it is silver, and the circle is blank.
- When Cat Noir was akumatized into Cat Blanc and kamikotized into Celesticat it became pure white, with the inner circle being blank.[2]
- When worn by Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the ring was smaller and rose gold, its band was a bit thinner while the circle was blank and slightly raised.[3]
- When worn by Zoé Lee, the ring was pink, and the circle was blue.[4]
Abilities
When it's used to transform, the Cat Miraculous grants its holder a black cat themed costume that they truly desire as well as incredible superhuman powers of strength, speed, agility, and endurance. Its special weapon is a staff, which can be utilized as a weapon, a communicator, and a rebreather. Its special superpower is Cataclysm, which gives the user the ability to damage or destroy an object, such as structures, akumas' hiding places, or metal bars. It also provides its holder with cat like abilities such as super stealth, night vision and enhanced hearing. However, if the Cat Miraculous holder is a child, using Cataclysm will force them to detransform after five minutes. An evil holder can override this and use Cataclysm indefinitely, but at a great cost.
The Cat and Ladybug Miraculouses are also more powerful than the rest of the Miraculouses. If they're used together along with a special invocation, their holder will achieve the absolute power to alter reality to their wishes. However, because the universe must maintain balance, every action has an equal and opposite reaction; for instance, a wish to become human would result in someone else losing their humanity.
The other power is the Miraculous Cat Noir, unlocked by Cat Noir, in "Revelator". If there is something that is a causal effect caused indirectly by the supervillain and/or a crisis that the Miraculous Ladybug is unable to fix due to not being a "damage" (like revealed secrets), the holder throws the cataclysm power in the air and says Miraculous [the hero's name of the Cat Noir Miraculous holder], causing the Cataclysm to explode into a massive Cataclysm swarm that flies around the specific area and destroy the intended phenomena. So far, this power was used to erased specific memories originated indirectly by a supervillain's power.
Power-Ups
After Plagg consumes one of several special potions or a food made with one, and the Cat Miraculous holder transforms, or if they consume a special potion or a food made with them after they've transformed, they are able to unlock a power-up, an additional specific ability granted by each potion. So far, only seven potions have been shown, each with a unique color:
- The green potion transforms Plagg into "Aqua Plagg" and grants its user the ability to breathe underwater and improves their swimming capability with flippers added on their feet.
- The cyan potion transforms Plagg into "Plagg Glacier" and grants its user the ability to resist cold temperatures and to move freely on ice with ice skates on their feet.
- The purple potion transforms Plagg into an unknown space form and grants its user the ability to move freely and breathe in high altitudes and space.
- A red potion that grants unknown powers.
- A yellow potion that grants unknown powers.
- An orange potion that grants unknown powers.
- A pink potion that grants unknown powers.

History
The Cat Miraculous was created thousands of years ago by an Unnamed mage.
Adrien unified it with the Snake, and Rabbit Miraculous to transform into Snake Noir and Rabbit Noir.
In "Reflekdoll", and "Passion", the ring was used by Marinette Dupain-Cheng, in order to become Lady Noire. Later she unified it with Mouse to transform into Multinoire.
In "Ephemeral", in an alternate timeline, Gabriel unifies the Cat Miraculous with the Butterfly, Peacock Miraculous to transform into Shadow Noir.
During the events of the final battle against Monarch, Marinette unifies the Cat Miraculous with the Ladybug Miraculous to become Bug Noire.

Trivia
- In the theme song, the Cat Miraculous resides in the raised center of the Mother Box with the Ladybug Miraculous, both their sections creating a yin-yang symbol inside the box.
- The Cat Miraculous is in the yang section (like in every yin-yang symbol there’s also some of each in the other). Some of the things that yang represents are heat, light, dominance, and logic (which interprets the Ladybug Miraculous).
- Black cats are a symbol of bad luck, although they do symbolize good luck in some countries, such as ancient Egypt.
- Aside from their symbol of luck, black cats can also symbolize protection, compassion, and growth.

- The ring can fall off while the user is transformed, which causes the user to revert back to normal.
- In the original Ladybug PV, the ring has a very different design. It is entirely black with a cat face, the cat having green jewels as eyes and a red diamond-shaped jewel on its forehead.
- After decoding the spellbook under the Cat Miraculous page, one of the words translates to ruby which is one of the jewels in the PV version of the ring.
- During the time the PV was produced and before the Miraculous theme was introduced, the ring would bring bad luck to its holder — even when they're not transformed. Additionally, the ring can't be removed unless a special requirement is fulfilled, as Félix Agreste would only be able to remove the ring if Ladybug kissed him.[5]
- In "Volpina", the legacy of Cat Miraculous holders dates all the way back to Ancient China.
- According to the official Miraculous Ladybug Tumblr blog, there will be more holders of the Cat Miraculous revealed.[6]
- As in Hēi Māo in "Volpina", the Ancient European Cat Miraculous holder in "Feast" and Dark Grimalkin in "Reunion".
- If the person possessing the Cat Miraculous used it for evil, it would be "even more than [extremely dangerous]".[7]
- For a staged battle for Mr. Damoclès as The Owl in "The Dark Owl", Marinette created a fake replica of the Cat Miraculous, which she later used to trick Mr. Damoclès' akumatized form and Hawk Moth.
- In "Frightningale" Plagg thinks the bell on Adrien's costume is ridiculous, and he points out that such costume is what Adrien really wants deep down.
- The Cat Miraculous is sometimes called The Ring of the Black Cat.
- As Lady Noire, Multinoir and Bug Noire, Marinette is the first known female to wield the Cat Miraculous until Zoé became Kitty Noire in "Transmission", albeit temporarily.
- As of "Cat Blanc", the Cat Miraculous is the fourth Miraculous to be seen in an akumatized form following the Bee, Fox, and Turtle Miraculouses.
- Unlike the other three Miraculouses, the akuma didn't land inside the ring.
- It's the fifth Miraculous used for evil, even if briefly and in an alternative reality, following the Butterfly, Peacock, Bee, Fox, and Turtle Miraculouses.
- According to Plagg in "Miraculer", Adrien is the first Cat holder to have his power turn on himself.
- He is the first sentimonster to become a miraculous holder.
- According to Plagg, in "Dearest Family", due to him being Tikki's counterpart, it could also be the Cat holders' job to limit the amount of creation by their Ladybug partners.
