“ | Bottom line is that Bob Roth Records cannot afford to be #2 in sales or rep. a #2 rock star! | ” |
—Bob, "Guitar Villain" |
Robert "Bob" Roth[3] is a supporting antagonist of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. He is Jagged Stone's former producer and the owner of Bob Roth Records. He is also the father of singer XY.
In "Ephemeral", after he lost a penny, Bob was akumatized offscreen by Shadow Moth into Moolak, a golden safe supervillain.
In "Migration", after realizing Luka was Jagged Stone's son, he tricked the Kitty Section into signing a contract with him, then firing everyone except Luka, now referring him as "Jagged Jr". However, when Luka refused to be part of Bob Roth Records after he was nearly reakumatized, Bob was akumatized by Monarch into Gold Record, a golden supervillain with the power to turn anyone into an LP record with his golden record, and was given the power of the Horse Miraculous through his Alliance ring. After his deakumatization, he refused to take the Magical Charm from Ladybug.
Appearance
Physical appearance
Bob is tall and somewhat overweight with light gray receding hair, a gray mustache, tan skin, and moderate spring-bud eyes.
Civilian attire
He wears white dress pants and a white dress jacket over a pink shirt with gray buttons. His dress shoes are reddish brown with medium gray tips. He also wears moderate spring-bud sunglasses with black rims on his head, a thick gold necklace around his neck, and a gold ring with a red ruby jewel on the middle finger on his right hand.
As Moolak
Moolak kept himself inside a big cube-shaped safe made of gold with lasers at each vertice at all times. His body appeared to be made of gold. However, because he was always seen covered in gold coins, only his face could be seen.
As Gold Record
Gold Record's appearance was similar to his civilian outfit, except his body and clothes were completely gold, his hair was longer and his belt had a star in the middle. He was also wearing his sunglasses (which are more round) in front of his eyes instead of on his head.
Personality
Bob is very arrogant and greedy, only caring about money and fame, as shown in "Guitar Villain" when he asks Jagged Stone to change his style to match that of XY, in order to sell more albums. He'll be dishonest in order to get his way, lying to Marinette when he asks her to create Jagged Stone's new album cover, which Jagged Stone requested, and tells her to base it off of the previous cover test design that is similar to the style of XY's promotional artwork. However, while begrudgingly, he does back down if he is threatened, not wanting to lose Jagged Stone's sales or deal with the wrath of his pet crocodile, Fang. It seems to work for him, as he is very wealthy. He is also very famous; his statue is even in the museum in The Puppeteer 2.
In "Silencer", he is shown to be cowardly hiding behind Marinette when being threatened by the titular villain or when he used Ladybug as a shield to defend himself against Silencer at the cost of the heroine losing her voice. His dishonesty also continues when he refuses to admit that he stole everything from Kitty Section and isn't afraid to blackmail others to get them out of his way, meaning that he is also pushy and forceful towards others to do their job like with Ladybug. Once out of danger, he is also boastful which led to him carelessly revealing the truth on live television.
Also in the aforementioned episode, he is a father who spoils his son XY whom he indulges and has never taught XY any morals or ethics as he always allows his son to steal other singers' ideas. In "Illusion", Bob was seen even promoting his son's career in times that was not appropriated, how he interrupted Alec's well-exposed observation regarding the current threat of Monarch and how people should act to better support their heroes just to promote his son's new CD.
In "Migration", it is seen how far Bob is willing to go and how many lines he is willing to cross to make money. After he learns that Luka is Jagged's son, he tries to do everything he can to have the boy work for him, knowing he would be a great sensation like his father. To that end, he insists on having Luka and the rest of the Kitty Sections to sign a contract with him (not even realizing he had already promised them a contract some months earlier). However, as soon he manages to convince them to sign a contract, he immediately fires all members of the band, except for Luka, taking ownership of everything belonging to them (their name, their songs, their lyrics, Marinette's creations for the band, etc.) and everything they might create in the future, basically preventing them from forming any other band together.
As Moolak, his greed was increased immensely, as his purpose was to turn any person he encountered into gold coins he then greedily kept inside his safe with him. His greed also caused him to get interested on the Miraculouses, wondering if they were valuable for Shadow Moth wanting them so much, only giving up on them when the latter threatened to take away his powers.
As Gold Record, he was very persistent on capturing Luka so he could work for him and make him even richer. However, his obsession in pursuing Luka was his own undoing, as Ladybug used Luka as bait to take his akumatized object and release the megakuma inside. He had distaste towards Rose, Anarka and Juleka's music, despite the fact they were amazing songs, sending their records into outer space. Despite that, he liked the Rubber Ducky's record song, sending it to his office.
Abilities
As a civilian
Bob is a savvy businessman. He is also a very good manipulator as seen in “Guitar Villain” where he tells Marinette to make Jagged Stone’s new album to be modern like as opposed to what Jagged Stone really wants.
As Moolak
He was hidden inside an impenetrable flying safe. The bulbs on the corners of the safe could shoot lasers that transformed people into gold coins that were collected inside the safe. Once in the safe, the coins took up too much room for the Horse Miraculous user to teleport inside.
The code to open the safe was 0099.
As Gold Record
Gold Record could throw his golden record at his target, transforming them into LP records which sang the deepest feelings and secrets of said person. He could also use this power on animals like pigeons or even inanimate objects like a rubber duck or a wall. Gold Record also received from Monarch the power of Voyage, the superpower of the Horse Miraculous, through his Alliance ring. With it, he could teleport anything or himself to certain locations, using it to swiftly evade attacks, make surprise attacks or use it in conjuntion of his golden record. He would also use it to teleport the LP records he turned people into, either to the wall of his office (for the LP records he considered to be a hit) or into space (for the LP records he considered to be trash).
Relationships
Jagged Stone
Though Bob is Jagged Stone's producer, the two do not get along very well. Bob is always trying to pressure him into changing his style into something more modern like XY, something Jagged is completely against. He also threatens to drop Jagged from his record label if his album doesn't hit #1 on the charts.
In Migration, their relationship have become so much worse to the point Jagged, after being inspired by Luka's own actions in refusing to work for Bob, decided to cut ties with the latter and end their contract for good.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug
Bob first encounters Marinette in "Guitar Villain" when he offers her a chance to design Jagged Stone's new album cover, though he lies to her and says that Jagged is changing his style in order to ensure that she makes an album cover like XY's. In "Troublemaker", he is fine with filming Jagged Stone in her parents' bakery. However, in "Silencer", he has no qualms about stealing her costume ideas for XY. When Marinette confronts him about this and decides to tell the truth on live TV, Bob threatens to ruin her reputation if she does so, reminding her that people wouldn't believe her anyway.
Regarding Ladybug, he doesn’t appear to be grateful for her heroic actions and even pushes her in front of him just so his voice won’t be stolen (causing her to lose her voice), as shown in “Silencer.”
XY
Bob is fond of XY's style and constantly tries to encourage Jagged to change his style to be more like his.
In "Silencer", it is revealed that Bob and XY are father and son respectively. The two get along quite well as they are both fond of stealing others' ideas to achieve success. This connotes that he doesn’t teach his son anything about morals and ethics in entertainment business.
Luka Couffaine
When Luka, along with Marinette, confronts Bob about him for plagiarizing Kitty Section's idea, Bob dismisses his claims and threatens Marinette in front of him, angering him so much that he gets akumatized.
In "Migration", after learning Luka was Jagged's son, Bob became obsessed in having the boy work for him, going as far to trick him and his band to sign an abusive contract that gives to Bob the ownership over everything belonging to the Kitty Sections (like their name, music and everything Marinette created for them) along with everything they might create, all while firing every member of the band except for Luka, believing that the mere prospect of becoming rich and famous would convince him to work for him despite how he tricked him and his friends. However, after Luka is able to resist an akumatization attempt by Monarch by breaking his guitar, Luka declares to Bob that, if silence is the only way for him to avoid their contract, then he will never play again, something that angers Bob very much, leading to his akumatization.
As Gold Record, he became obsessed with pursuing Luka and turn him into a record so he could use the boy's music to make more money. That obsession ended up being his undoing, as Ladybug used Luka as bait to get his akumatized object and later is once again told by Luka that he will not create music for him.

Trivia
- Similar to Robostus and Feast, Bob Roth, as Moolak, has shown an interest in the Miraculouses, appearing to want to keep them for himself, after wondering if they were valuable. However, unlike them, he quickly gave up on the idea after being threatened by Shadow Moth to have his powers removed.
- Moolak's name is derived from "moolah", which is a slang term for money.
- He currently holds the record for facing the 2nd highest number of most Miraculous holders, with facing 10 Miraculous holders, which is all the holders on the Miraculous superhero team except for Cat Noir, Rena Rouge, Bunnyx, Miss Hound, Rooster Bold, Caprikid, Minotaurox and Argos, and is behind Penalteam, who faced 15 Miraculous holders.
- Bob Roth is the second person to not want a Magical Charm, following Chloé Bourgeois and preceding Kagami Tsurugi.
- Unlike Chloé and Kagami, Bob is the only character who couldn't be persuaded (or tricked) to keep his Magical Charm.
