Running outside, she caught up to Adrien, who was standing on the steps. She opened the umbrella and rested it on her shoulder. Marinette smiled softly at Adrien, who turned away. She sighed.
“Ok. I know you're going through something,”
Adrien looked down, scowling.
“And I won’t pry, but your acting really different lately, and I want to help you,”
Adrien scoffed. Marinette clenched her fists.
“Look, You might think it’s easier to get through it on your own, but it’s not! When we first became friends, you said it was all new to you, that you never had friends before. Well, you have friends now! And we’re worried! Do you really want to do that to us!,” She looked over at him pleadingly.
Adrien’s eyes widened, but he kept his head hung low. Marinette sighed once more.
“On that day, you gave me this umbrella, and since then, it’s always been a sign of our friendship, and the people I care about. Right now, you need that reminder more than me,”
She held the umbrella out to him, and he looked up, surprised. Marinette smiled.
“We all care about you a lot Adrien, you mean a lot to us, and we’re here for you,”
Their eyes connected. A clap of thunder sounded as Adrien took the umbrella. Marinette started to walk down the steps when she turned back and smiled again.
“See you tomorrow,” She waved before continuing down.
Adrien blinked then placed his hand on the back of his head and closed his eyes.
“Oh, yeah s-see y-you to-tomor- w-why am I stuttering,” Adrien clapped his hand over his mouth.
Plagg flew up behind him.
“Looks like the lovebirds are at it again,” he laughed.
Adrien looked over towards Marinette who was walking away and blushed, smiling.
Around the corner a figure watched, an umbrella protecting her from the rain. Her blonde hair was pulled back, and her green eyes sparkled as she smiled. Turning away, she walked from the scene.
Marinette was enraptured by her own thoughts.
“Adrien’s going through something, I can’t make him worry about my feelings, I have to be there for him, even if it means-,”
Her thoughts were interrupted by Tikki.
“That was great Marinette! You got through to him. You two might just becom-,”
Marinette walked past her.
“No Tikki. He’s,”
Her breath became shallow.
“He-He’s just-just,” She clenched her teeth “just a-a friend,”
Her fists tightened as she hung her head.
“A friend,”
Marinette stopped, standing still on the road as a single tear fell to the ground. Tikki looked at her closest friend in sorrow.
“Marinette,”
Marinette breathed in deeply and started to walk again.
“Hey, Marinette! Wait up!,” A voice called.
Marinette turned back, and her eyes widened in surprise.
“L-Luka?”
