Marinette threw herself onto her bed, floating in a state of bittersweet ecstasy. She'd just come back from her third night of visiting Adrien as Ladybug, and it had been the best yet. On her second visit, all he'd done was ask about her feelings for Cat Noir. Tonight, he'd greeted her with an enormous hug and led her into his wardrobe, where he'd strung up a blanket to use as a curtain and behind it was a table with a bowl of cookies on it.
"If you want you could stay for a while longer tonight... I thought we could maybe watch a movie? I can stop it to get refreshments every time you transform back, and you can feed your kwami here where I can't see you!" His whole face was glowing and his green eyes sparkled as they silently pleaded her to stay. How could she resist him? She couldn't even remember what they'd watched, she only remembered his arm snaking around her shoulders, and as the twilight slipped into night, she remembered sleepily noting the gentle way he stroked her hair as she eventually worked up the courage to snuggle into him. He'd kissed her cheek sporadically throughout the film, and Marinette felt faint at the thought of the memory... but she also felt as though Ladybug was stealing him from herself, Marinette, if that made any sense at all. She realised that she wanted him to love her without a mask on too... but that this was better than nothing, and if she couldn't have him as Marinette, then at least she could have him as Ladybug, right? Smiling, she fell asleep, picturing the perfect face of the boy she could now call her lover.
Chloe fumed as she strolled through the corridor, glaring at any classmates she passed. She clutched a magazine which featured a grainy picture of Adrien standing at his window hugging Ladybug, and she was absolutely furious.
Striding into the classroom, she marched straight up to him and poked him in the chest, slamming the picture on the table in front of him.
"What," she said in a deadly whisper, "is THIS?"
He stared at it for a moment, and from her seat Marinette could see the back of his neck going red and she knew he was blushing. She tried to look heartbroken for the sake of Alya, who was looking at her worriedly.
"I-I-I don't know Chloe... it's photoshopped?" He stammered unconvincingly.
She snatched it from him and ripped it, screeching "Liar! You're cheating on me... with Ladybug of all people!" She then proceeded to cry all over Sabrina, while Adrien looked around wildly.
"We were never dating Chloe, so what if I am getting in with Ladybug?" He retorted angrily, and he pushed past her, storming out of the classroom, his face burning. Chloe gaped at him as he left, eventually calling out, "my daddy will hear about this!" and picking up her phone to ring him.
Marinette was on her feet before she even realised she'd decided to follow him. She followed him down the corridor to his locker, where he stood talking to himself angrily. As she approached him, he glanced her way and froze, muttered something out of the side of his mouth and slammed the locker door shut.
She reached him and put her hand on his arm, saying, "hey, don't worry about Chloe, she's just being Chloe. We all know you weren't dating... but is it true you're seeing Ladybug?" She adopted an expression of curiosity, trying to hide her smile. He blushed and shrugged.
"Yeah... I know, it's just she gets on my nerves sometimes. She acts like she owns me... when my heart really belongs to Ladybug," he confessed, grinning shyly. She giggled, and they walked back to class, ignoring the distressed whining noises Chloe was making while on the phone to her father.
As Chloe hung up, she smirked smugly and sat down happily next to Sabrina. She whispered in her ear, "Daddy's really angry, he's totally going to wail on Adrien and Ladybug."
The Mayor glared at his phone and stood up, needing to take a walk and calm down. Chloe could be difficult, but nobody - NOBODY - was going to mess with her heart and get away with it. He was furious with Adrien and Ladybug... how could Ladybug do something as despicable as breaking a young girl's heart?!
Hawk Moth noted his anger, and sent a dark butterfly to greet him as Adrien, Nino, Alya and Marinette innocently discussed Adrien's new relationship, not knowing that it would soon be at risk...
Sorry for the short chapter, I'll post the next one soon.
